  1. that better be a reverse jinx . . .
  2. That makes sense. Correia's being serviceable again, that's good!
  3. wait - "watching" on espn - did the Twins get 4 outs last half inning? Can they get four outs every inning?
  4. oh yeah - day game today. C'mon Correia-ie, quick inning!
  5. I think Morales' value will be based more on his track record - teams will assume this is like an extended spring training for him and base their offers on getting the player they chose not sign as a free agent in the offseason. That could work to the Twins' benefit. The opposite would be true for guys like Colabello and Parmelee - they could hit .400 for the month of June and still not really be on anyone's shopping list.
  6. How about Nolan Reimold, recently DFA'd by Baltimore? If he can be had via waiver claim, it would cost the Twins 500k for the rest of 2014, and they'd have to drop someone from their 40-Man roster (possibly the 25 man too, not sure if Reimold is out of options, but if they pick him up it should be to play him regardless) He was a former top prospect, he's dealt with some injuries but has been a semi-regular in Baltimore for about 5 seasons...
  7. Curtiss didn't have any student loans, then, I take it? Great - that's all of the top ten (and #11) Twins' choices signed. Who remains unsigned, and are there still guys that are not likely to sign with the Twins this year?
  8. It seems to me that prospects are more highly prized than they've been before - at the same time, there are still blockbuster deals made with several prospects being moved for a #1 Starter. I think it will be hard to get an impressive return for Willingham because he's older, on his final year of a contract, and teams are protective of their prospects. I think he will get traded if Ryan gets a decent offer from just about anyone. Probably not getting anyone's top 25 for Willingham, but it's possible that a younger player in AAA or sitting on the end of someone's 25 Man roster that's blocked by an established player could be acquired for Willingham. It's hard to even guess who that might be, though.
  9. It would be really neat if Parmelee batted right handed and mashed lefties. Then he'd be a fantastic platoon partner for Mauer.
  10. yeah, I just think missing a former MVP or potential HOF is a bigger deal than, say, Mike Pelfrey being on the 60 day DL.
  11. I think over 500 Plate appearances, Mauer would overtake Parmelee on rate stats, his OBP is so good historically. Assuming he gets playing time Parmelee should have more homers over 500 PA than Mauer, sure, probably more RBI by virtue of where he'll be hitting in the order, but Mauer is going to outperform him over the course of a full season. Even a diminished skill version of Mauer is a pretty good major league hitter.
  12. Matthew LeCroy's Home cooking: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/nationals-journal/wp/2014/06/09/matt-lecroys-superstitious-banana-mayo-sandwich/ Ok, Sorry, that's way off-topic. Rubberband feels broken at the moment, but I think the rest of the homestand with tell the story.
  13. I think LeCroy had a lot of Rocky Road. The fans should have given him a cool nickname like Billy Butler ("Country Breakfast")
  14. Parmelee probably won't get the opportunity to play everyday this year, so my guess is that his numbers will not fall too much over the course of the season. Mauer's rate stats might be lower, but his counting stats will definitely be better, barring another injury. And Morneau, that's good to see, though it stinks that he's doing it in Colorado instead of here.
  15. How's he going to do that? It's going to have to be a rash of injury and misfortune akin to Mr. Burns' company softball team.
  16. Yes - that's why I think the Twins should be looking at players on their current 25-Man roster, deciding which ones will definitely not be a part of 2015, and then try to get something back for them.
  17. Would look more Minnesotan with ear flaps, but's definitely got an outdoorsy hunting cap vibe to it.
  18. Terry Ryan's "not giving up" on Florimon, which means he's going to be using a 40-Man spot until Mr. Gordon needs it.
  19. I think pieces from the ML roster could be traded whether the Twins are a buyer or a seller. Pretty much anyone in the bullpen, any outfielder not named Arcia, and in the infield there are options as well (Nuñez, Escobar, Plouffe should all be considered). Don't necessarily have to trade a prospect to get a player back. Depending on what other teams are looking to add, the Twins might have something to offer. It's still a couple weeks away, but I expect that there are already teams calling the Twins front office and vice versa. Question for the group - is there one position in the organization that seems deep? Like could the Twins deal a minor league Reliever or Middle infielder or corner outfielder and still have a fair number of prospects coming up behind that player? What about catching prospects? The Twins have several guys in the low minors that are promising - Mitch Garver, Navaretto, Stuart Turner... If you're the Twins, what would you be willing to part with to improve this year's team?
  20. I wonder what the chart looks like ordered by career WAR of the players on the the DL? Self-selection bias for sure, but the two years they had Mauer and/or Morneau on the shelf for significant time was a killer. This year is not really so bad in comparison. It's the healthy players that are not performing that is the problem more than injured players.
  21. I think he was sent back to the same level he was at to continue working with the same instructors/coaches that he was working with before the call up. I can only imagine that there were specific things they want Polanco to work on in Single A.
  22. Andre Ethier might be available if the Twins are buyers near the deadline. He'd be a clear upgrade in RF, he's played a fair amount of CF as well this year. Not sold on him defensively. Not sure what he would cost in terms of players going to the Dodgers.
  23. I bet the the pitching will continue to impress, it's really a question of where the runs will come from. If Plouffe's return can help the team score some runs, it's not out of the question that the next 14 games will help the team forget the last road trip. The Twins should win at least 5 games, I'm optimistic for 7 or 8.
  24. As long as they're calling up young guys, how about Kepler? Just kidding. If Arcia goes to AAA, the "outfielder" coming back up would have to be Herrmann/Colabello or Hicks, who's actually an outfielder, but probably least likely to be called back up now of those three.
