    The Twins have been very shy about courting Cuban defectors - they were big players in Cuba before the ban (When the Twins were the Senators). I wonder what effect, if any, signing Kendry Morales would have on the Twins' involvement on Cuban free agents. Tomas was ranked in the top 5 of international prospects at the last World Baseball Classic. He's still relatively young, but has played in Cuba's professional league for 5 years (which means there are no spending limits). He'll have to get residency in a country other than Cuba and have the MLB agree to say he's allowed to sign a contract with an MLB team. He played some CF, but he's a bit slow-footed, so projects to be a corner OF in the bigs. He's got power and is seen as just a notch or two below The White Sox' Abreu.     Everybody is going to have a different definition of "success." Compared to the last three years, sure, the Twins have shown that they are capable of being much better than they have been. But is that the same thing as being successful? I don't mean to discredit the progress and improvement shown, but I would fall short of saying that another 10 wins this year equals a success. I would say that another 10 wins this year brings the team closer to success, and sets them up well for success (i.e. a winning record and the Playoffs) in 2015 or 2016.

    Did the Twins have to make a move yet to their 25-Man to make room for Pino? Another work perk is no Twitter access... Edit: Nevermind! I see that Eduardo Nuñez was placed on the DL, and Pelf goes to the 60-Day DL as we've all suspected.

    He's the second WSox fan I've had as a direct manager at my current employer - the last guy hung the White Sox Championship banner in my cube for a week. . . so this was a slight improvement.

    My boss was going to fly in from Phoenix yesterday to have meetings and then take us out to the game . . . he made it as far as Denver and then the airport closed on him, so no game for me today. I wanted to ask if the tix were being held at will call, but I figured that would be a bit tacky since he spent the night in an airport.

    I hesitated in posting at all in this thread because there's no way to know if Mauer's season is related to natural decline or injury. It doesn't seem productive to speculate which one it is, but the thing that can be deduced from the first half of 2014 is that he is not the player he was last year (or for much of his career). The "why" is what a lot of us want to know, but I think the more important piece is "what" as in what are the Twins going to do about it? The expectation that Mauer will bounce back is one I still have, but my optimism is waning as the season progresses. Will he get the benefit of the doubt for the whole year, or at some point in the near future do the Twins make a move to replace him in the lineup. My guess is that Mauer will be given every possible opportunity to show he still has the skills that have made him one of the best hitters of his generation.

    Yeah - I agree - Perkins is the best bullpen arm the Twins have, he should be used more often than just the classic save situation.

    3/5ths of the rotation is performing lights out right now - if only the bats would wake up, the Twins could be a few more games up in the standings.
