  1. That's a good clarification. The KIA Tigers do not know who the winning bid is from. The Korean League doesn't tell the team the name of the winning bidder. So, Berardino's source was just guessing, or was given bad info.
  2. One of Berardino's sources was a coach on the Korean team - seems like a pretty close source. It's not like the league in Korea sprang up overnight - they should have a phone number- http://www.tigers.co.kr/season_off.asp
  3. Sure - they haven't signed anybody yet. My opinion is that Peña would be better than Colabello in 2015, and therefore if those are the options available on the 40 Man, that's where my vote would be. I hope that's not the only option that the Twins have.
  4. Someone should be able to call an official with the Team and/or the league and get this story correct, shouldn't they?
  5. I'm not even a little bit worried about Wily Mo Peña - he's not under contract with the Twins, and he probably won't be. If (big big if) the Twins sign him, there's no guaruntee that he makes the team out of spring training. Several months and several breaks have to happen before he's wearing a Twins Uni. That being said- if he is signed and does beat the competition in Spring Training - why not have him instead of Colabello? I'm hoping that the Twins sign some talented defensive outfielders, and Wily Mo Peña will be a moot point.
  6. Red Sox apparently are going to sign Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez, and in theory they are still in on Jon Lester... That's a lot of $$ invested in three players...
  7. Wily Mo Pena was awesome in MVP Baseball! I have no problem at all with a minor league deal and a spring training invite. If he has a better spring than Colabello, he can have Cola's job. To me, that's where he'd fit on this team. He can DH on Mauer's off days (Vargas at first) and sure, throw him out in RF every now and then to give Arcia a day off.
  8. More money in the bank to offer Torii now, I guess...
  9. too high.
  10. The sad thing is that as bad as Hunter's defense seems to be, it's still an improvement over Willingham and the infielders.
  11. I think Hunter will want to play for a contender - unless the Twins offer a ridiculous amount of money, he's probably going to KC, Baltimore, Seattle or a national league team like Cincy, Atlanta, etc. first before picking the Twins. I think he'd be a great coach...
  12. "Dude, don't be such a Guardado! Just talk to her, so what if she's from South and you're from North?"
  13. I guess I don't know what the rule is ... I thought it was 7 total; 7 plus the manager seems to fit, or 7 total coaches total in the dugout (so the bullpen coach doesn't count...). Either way, there are still two spots, "1st base coach" and a "Bench coach" How about Devon Whyte (aka Devon White) for first base coach?
  14. Hmm - now that I think about it, does the bullpen coach not count? Last year was: Gardy Anderson Bruno Cuellar Molitor Vavra Steinbach and Scott Ullger, which is 8 coaches... So maybe they do still have two spots... In either case, hopefully one or both will be an OF coach too.... any rumors out there on who might be in the running for that gig?
  15. Too bad for Florimon - if the Rockies had picked him up he'd win the 2015 NL Batting Title.
  16. Another day, another story, and another omission of the Twins in any relation to signing Tomas - I think they might be officially out of the running at this point: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/yasmany-tomas--power-has-baseball-in-a-frenzy-011113930.html
  17. 1. Molitor 2. "Pitching Coach" 3. Bruno 4. Guardado 5. Rudy Hernandez 6. Gene Glynn 7. "Bench Coach" I think Rudy is the 1st base coach / Asst. hitting coach, as they can only carry 7 coaches.
  18. I think the time he mentions is referring to specifically talking about mechanical adjustments as opposed to total time working
  19. It does mention that they are not excited about his defense, but it also says that they are still the favorite to sign him, with the Giants and Braves being the other teams mentioned in the blurb. here's a link to it: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/11/yasmany-tomas-rumors-braves-in-phillies-wary-of-overpay.html
  20. The Pitching Coach decision seems to be narrowing down to either Neil Allen or Carl Willis, both of whom could be great. The Twins have named a 3rd base coach, Bullpen Coach, an assistant Hitting Coach, and retained Tom Brunansky as Hitting Coach. The only position left, it seems, is the bench coach. Brunansky is the only coach on the staff with outfield experience, right? His focus should be on the offensive side of things, so the bench coach probably will be the de facto outfield instructor as well. This makes some of the rumored candidates, like Robin Yount, seem a little more appealing. What are some names of coaching candidates that might be able to step in and help the woeful outfield defense?
  21. Latest on Tomas on MLB trade Rumors made no mention of Twins' involvement - Tomas is visiting with the Braves, The Phillies are still in it, but no mention of Minnesota. I don't know what the Twins will do to address their outfield issues, I only hope it's a better effort than 2013 and 2014.
  22. If the Twins are theoretically willing to spend $19MM on Mark Buehrle, I think they could be offering that money to James Shields or even Jon Lester (Though I think he would want a bigger deal). I think a FA signing is a more likely payroll bump than trading for a spendy player. I can't think of a single example in which the Twins traded for a big contract - maybe Carl Pavano? I forget how much was left on his deal when he came over. Luis Castillo? That money could go to Ervin Santana, or Brett Anderson and Justin Masterson combined (with $$ left over for an outfielder).
  23. The Twins should be the ones going after Cabrera - at least, if the choice is between Hunter and Cabrera, that is. I'm anxious for some dominoes to start falling for the Twins' offseason. I hope that once they announce their new pitching coach and bench coach we'll hear about a new FA pitcher and/or OF soon after.
  24. Totally Irrelevant Stat: Against Guardado, Paul Molitor went 3/7 with two walks, a double and a homer - a triple slash of .429/.556/.571 Bruno was 0-3 against Everyday Eddie in a super small sample
  25. Totally irrelevant stats: Paul Molitor was 1-2 lifetime against Neil Allen, with the one hit being a double. He also drew 3 walks. The one out was a strikeout. Against Carl Willis, Molitor went 0-12 with one strikeout.
