  1. Baseball will always be my favorite sport, but soccer is up there too. I'm wondering if there is any other people out there that share these two sports passions. I mainly follow the English Premier League and my team is Tottenham. And with the EPL starting this weekend, I thought I'd see if there are any like minded people out there. -Bob
  2. Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm usually a very shy, quiet person, but the one thing that will get me talking is baseball.
  3. I feel like we had a similar discussion a few years ago regarding Baker's elbow and TJ surgery. MRIs arent 100% sensitive and are reliant on the radiologist reading them.
  4. Roy is terrible. He says something and then continues to explain what he meant. And what I mean by that is he is redundant. And, you know, my point is that he says nothing, but takes forever to say it. And at least when Bert talks about his playing days, he is a HOFer. Roy...not so much
  5. Among everything else that makes baseball the greatest is this: there is no clock to run out. a team can be down 9-0 with two outs in the ninth and the pitcher can't take a knee or hold the ball. He HAS to give the other team a chance. as Yogi said, It ain't over til its over.
  6. Billy Heywood. But seriously, I think Redmond would be great.
  7. Having lived outside of MN for 5 years now and subscribing to MLB extra innings or MLB.TV for that time and having to listen to other teams TV announcers I realize that Dick and Bert are above average. There are a few teams with better announcers, I think the Indians are pretty good and a lot of teams with worse announcers, Yankees, both Sox, Royals. My overall grade B I think Roy is not very good. He talks about stuff in such a manner that it takes him 10 minutes to tell a story or talk about a play that anyone else could do in 15 seconds. I also agree that he over-exagerates the players abilities. my grade C- I think TK is great. I would love a three man booth of him, Dick and Bert. TK clearly knows the game and its intricacies which is great for people who really know the game, but at the same time he can talk about it in a way that anyone can understand.
  8. Great post. I had a few thoughts while I was reading it. I currently live in KC and this is the first time Ive been in a city during the ASG. Unfortunately I was unable to go to the game or the Derby (tickets prices were astronomical), but it was a ton of fun being here when the whole city (baseball fan or not) is talking baseball. Second, I am a recent convert to soccer. I had some friends in college and grad school that were huge soccer fans that got me interested. I couldn't agree more with your statement about "watching" soccer or baseball. To the untrained eye baseball is people throwing, hitting and running, and soccer is just people kicking a ball around. Obviously, to fans it is so much more. here in KC we have an MLS team, and Ive been to a few games, sitting (actually standing) in the supporters area. Being around 2000 other fans that are die-hard and chant and sing the entire game makes it so much easier to enjoy whether you understand the game or not.
  9. Since I got a Twins tattoo for a graduation present to myself, I would have to say it would take laser removal to make me not a fan. Living out of the TC (and MN) for the past 5 years made me realize how big of a fan I am. It takes time to follow a team out of its home region (obviously easier now than pre-internet). I dont remember much of the '87 series (I was 3) but I remember the joy of '91. But I think having my formidable years during the 90s actually made me a bigger fan, because you know how bad it can get, and makes the last ~10 years feel that much better. On a side note, there's a great book "Baseball and Philosophy" that asks a similar question, when is it acceptable for fans to no longer be fans. The author concludes it is acceptable ONLY when the team engages in illegal or immoral behavior (ie. 1919 Black Sox), but not because of losing or incompetence.
  10. Per multiple sources on Twitter, it sounds like Baker was told there was a 20% chance of TJ surgery before the procedure started. And, the ligament wasnt torn, just stretched beyond what is normal, especially for pitching. so, I guess the MRI wasnt totally wrong.
  11. Yeah, pretty much... ;-) Like I said, Im not a surgeon, so it wasnt as condescending as it could have been...
  12. Not to sound arrogant, but I actually am a doctor (family medicince resident) and here are my two cents: MRIs are great, but they depend on the quality of the study (how much the patient moves, etc) and the person reading it. It sounds like they got 2 opinions on the read, and based on that the MRI didnt show the injury. As an isolated incident, not worth calling for the medical staff's collective head (but bad news for Baker and the Twins). But, with everything that has happened recently with injuries (especially 2011) it makes me wonder about the Twins medical staff. There seemed to be a lot of misdiagnosed, mistreated, undertreated and/or questionable medical decisions made (ie. bilateral leg weakness). Again, Im not a radiologist or surgeon, so Im far from an expert.
  13. I dont think he should get $9mil next year after a season ending injury, but I would like to see him signed for one more year at a lower price and trade him next year if he's doing well. He's been a fairly solid pitcher, but a little too injury prone for me.
  14. Its gotta be the grand slam in 87 world series right? Hometown kid living the dream of hitting a grand slam in the World Series? Thats gotta be it. I dont think Hrbek would appreciate a statue of him and Gant from '91.
  15. I like Revere a lot. If he can hit .250 I will be happy. He may not get on base a lot or end up scoring runs, but he certainly saves runs with his speed in the OF. Also, how can you not like a guy who is clearly having fun being a Major Leaguer.
  16. Hi everybody, I recently moved to KC, MO for work. My wife and I are diehard Twins fans (Target Field was on our wedding cake). I was wondering if there are any other Twins fans that live in the area, or if anyone knows of anyone. Thanks. Hopefully see some of you guys down here for some games at the K -Bob
  17. I think Sandlot is #1 because for me it shows the joy of being a kid, playing baseball, and being a kid playing baseball. Little Big League is up there, because of the Twins connection, and I was at a game when they filmed the scene where everyone is chanting "BILLY! BILLY!". Not too many mentions for Fever Pitch (and for good reason), but I love the scene when the UPS guy delivers his season tickets and he runs out in his underwear and hugs the UPS guy. Im pretty sure Ill do that when I get season tickets.
