  1. In Spans case, they didnt play him that 11gms as they felt they may need to retroactively DL him. If they legitimitly thought he was day to day, wonder why we didnt see him as a pinchrunner.....tho I dont know if they ever needed that. Seemed like they werent so sure of his day to day status either....at least to me. Nothing wrong with a player missing a series but a red light should come on if he's not ready for days 4-7. If by day 7/8 and a player isnt ready....make it a policy to DL him, no questions asked. It doesnt keep the AAA roster short for long, keeps the MLB team full & player plays when healthy.
  2. Baseball America reported that Guerra was 92-94 after his bullpen move last yr. Why do you think its been such a drastic drop in velocity?? Waldrop does have an incredible groundball rate, which at least gives him something Burnett/Gray dont posess, if your infield can make the plays
  3. This is why Chris Hermann should be the 3rd C next yr instead of Drew but he wont. At least with Hermann, you get a legit hitter who can ALSO play multiple positions & PH & generally be usefull on a roster rather than only insurance.
  4. Carson was gonna make $3086 per game upon his recall for the final 45gms (approx 139K). Because Scot Diamond doesnt know how to properly hit a batter in the rear, he's back in minors after making $21,602 in 7gms w/o a guarrantee he'll be recalled in Sept (could get hurt/DFAd for Walter/Hicks/Vazquez etc). Even if he is after ROC season, it cost him 11 MLB gms (34K in pay). Wonder if he's upset w/Scot ????
  5. This is the perfect reasoning to give people who didnt understand the draft pick value vs trading for prospect. Didnt work so good for Hunter with Shooter/Guitierrez but I thought it was worth it then. 2 high prospcts. Still hear media bitching about letting Kubel/Cuddy go for nothing & that we shoulda dealt em. Berrios is gonna be better than anything we coulda gotten for a mere rental of slightly above average players. Baird & Chargois remain to be seen, but those 3 are a very nice haul. We got Harrison/Boyd for Crain/ODawg while still attempting to win in the playoffs. Was a big proponent of draft picks vs dealing for prospects other teams didnt want
  6. But even with Bashore, he was a lefty who was throwing 97 mph a week before the draft... At the end of the day, sure, didn't work out, but I couldn't argue with it at the time. Bashore frustrates me since it was a mere weeks after drafting him that his elbow blew out....no way of knowing of course but we got absolutely NO time with him. Think that MN balked at hard throwers in 10/11 draft after seeing him & Tootle blow out the arms so soon & Bullock never harnessing his control????
  7. Disagree. Having Butera around to take some starts lessens the risk of Mauer or Doumit suffering a late-season injury behind the plate. I don't really see why the Twins need five outfielders at this point. cant disagree more.....no other team feels need to field 3 catchers maybe we need a backup 3B so Plouffe doesnt have a late season injury is the same reasoning.....big what if factor
  8. Get flustered with Gardy having a pitcher getting yanked early & goin 6 innings with 6 pitchers (for ex) & then complaining about his pen bein taxed. No rule that you cant have your LONG reliever go 4/5 innnings & save the pen & lose 1 guy for 3/4days.
  9. Angels had 24th/25th picks & took Trout 25th, so even they passed on him. Id be more upset we took Matt Bashore 46th instead of Billy Hamilton 57th, Andy Oliver 58th, Nolan Arreando 58th or Jason Kipnis 63rd Mn missed on all picks in rounds 2-5 that yr
  10. with Waldrop called up today a couple days before the end of the ROC season shows how little MN thinks of the one remaining link to Johan. He hasnt been good in ROC this year, but how he's been used has been curious as I pointed out a couple posts up. Last 2 yrs in New Brit out of pen-----with ROC this year....60 total gms out of pen (first gms/DL stints not showing) back to back appearances--once (aug 10/11 last yr)----none in AAA 1 day between appearances 7 times------3times in AAA 2 day between 14 times------8times in AAA 3 days 9 times--------9times in AAA 4 days or more twice----twice in AAA Am I making too much out of this or should a guy on the 40 man, that would pitch out of the pen, get pitched more often??? Is he unable to go back to back and that is why the organization doesnt think much of him?? If he cant and needs 2/3 days between appearances, he's basically useless for Gardy in the pen as Burton, not being used 3 days in a row, cripples the pen on occassion
  11. bullpen too taxed says Gardy. Use the pen differently then!!! surprises me as I thought Kyle may have been a candidate for a DFA....if not for a Sept callup, then this offseason.
  12. If I remember correctly, Gibson was a top 5 type prospect who fell due to his hairline fracture injury & MN was shocked he was available. Cant fault on this one......if we drafted Trout tho, he sure would be tearing up the INT Lg right now leading ROC to the playoffs, wouldnt he??
  13. Fomer Red Sox great threw a 9 innings complete game in the independant North American League last nite allowing 9h 4er 0k 0bb at AGE 65 after spraining his wrist last SAT at a charity golf outing. Astros are supposedly thinking of signing Roger Clemens later this year......just saying!!! http://deadspin.com/5937641/bill-spaceman-lee-age-65-threw-a-complete-game-last-night?utm_campaign=socialflow_deadspin_facebook&utm_source=deadspin_facebook&utm_medium=socialflow
  14. This last part with Span...IMO...had more to do with they didnt have anyone they wanted to call up . Benson was hurt, Arcia/Parm arent getting called up till Sept at earliest, Dozier is being punished & may not be back in Sept, & they didnt need another INF like Escobar (nobody to replace him in ROC) & they didnt want/need a 13th pitcher. I think its assinine to not call up Arcia/Parm due to playoff chases where the teams may miss them anyways. Twins are to do whats best for the MLB team FIRST imo. If its service time, fine...stay a cheap franchise. However, the continued joke that is their injury policies have got to embarrass them. Add in the recent Pavano news as well as Bakers problems the last 2 yrs & something needs to change
  15. hope/assume you meant 27-30m TOTAL not per year. If not.....yikes. Even Bill Smith would call that a bad deal!!! Agree about 8-10m is about right for Justin, just am not interested in keeping him even tho his upside for that contract could be great.
  16. talked about in other threads, but if you didnt see it......strained left lat muscle, DLd & out for last wk & half. Too bad as he had a couple solid starts to make some feel better about the deal (or did he??)
  17. Only non americans can go with they arent from a country without a winter league....so no Arcia/Romero/etc If Benson's knee is ok, he's a lock with Gibson. Also think Hermsen is a lock, as they want to see his average stuff against top competition. I predicted Bigley mainly due to some TV comments Tom Kelly made about how the organization thinks of him. Only 1 players below AA can go. I could see Levi Michaels but I predicted Lance Ray with Michael Tonkin 2nd. Also could see Matt Hauser or David Bromberg if they go pitcher or possibly Nate Hanson if they want him to get more time @ 2B.
  18. I would figure they would wait until June or whenever he would not gain Super 2 status before being recalled. Whatever reject/rejects they sign to fill out the rotation would be cut to make room. Wonder at his age (25 next season) if teams are less interested in the business side of things like Super 2 with players. At that age, its get him here & see if he can pitch I would think. I wouldnt be surprised if he starts in Roc for a month, but more that they can control his early season innings easier that way.
  19. Claiming to know nothing about runnin a Class A tm.....Saints play 72gms, i believe, during june-aug. Thats only 36 xtra gms which is better than the 72 Roc had to incur....no xtra in april/may either when weather is the worst. Per Seth's article, Twins do seem to have a new philosophy to independent ball
  20. coleman said the Saints would be separate from the Class A tm, if they got it, playin every day if needed as well as doubleheaders with both tms. Light rail will run from near the new park to Target Field & would schedule conflicting gms in different times so fans can see both if they wish. Sounds like theyve thought this out more than just a passing fad
  21. St Paul mayor was on Patrick Reusses show & said they are 2wks away from announcing a new 27m ballpark for the independant Saints. Reusse has pushed for Mn to move the club here for wks....says he has gotten confirmation that they could move it here. Coleman says they have gotten MLBs ok that the park specifics fits Class A requirements. Park will be 7k & be ready in 2 yrs Hmmmmmm
  22. All but Sattler have legit possibilities to make the majors by maybe next yr
  23. IMO....Mn knows Benson has talent, but they dont believe in him. Never hear a positive word about him. Wont be shocked if he's dealt this offseaon in a package for a pitcher
  24. Benson done for the year after knee surgery.....what a complete waste of a season
  25. Josmil was promoted to New Brit...
