  1. So Gibson is done now? wth, threw four pitches in the 7th and you don't put him back out there for the 8th?
  2. lol Gardy. Knew that was coming
  3. Jeez. Swept by the Rays, and then Morales traded and Hughes possibly injured on the same day. And so soon after the All Star break. Not that there was much reason for optimism, but that giant fart sound you hear is the Twins 2014 season deflating. Did the Morales signing mean that Terry Ryan genuinely thought the Twins had a shot at being a fringe contender? Or was it intended from the beginning to trade him, knowing that the team is still bad?
  4. Have there been any reports of Twins sniffing around Starlin Castro? Cubs picked up that top SS prospect from Oakland in the Samardzija deal and now have a surplus of middle infielders. Nick Gordon is very young and with how long this team likes to keep their prospects in the minors, there's no knowing how long it'll be before he makes it to the big leagues. Castro could be a decent pickup if he can be had for a reasonable price?
  5. Pfff, Nolasco might have been the "ace" by default before the season started, but we're past the halfway point and that's clearly not the case now. Of course he's been disappointing but I can't get too upset at the contract. Is 4y/48mil really that bad? Seems like 12mil/year for a SP is peanuts nowadays, considering that the true ace guys get double that. Is this just another example of an NL pitcher coming to the AL and getting rocked by DHs? Someone with better resources than I could probably easily check that.
  6. Morales and/or Parmelee.
  7. And even a good game tonight won't change that much. If one of the new guys in the minors can't come up and outperform him, well then we're in deep doo doo. And there he goes and walks the bases loaded.
  8. Pinto probably needs to go down to AAA as well. His OBP has been dropping steadily and he just looks lost at the plate lately. He also needs to fix his throw to second because it's become a problem. Probably easier to correct in the minors with every day starts instead of in the bigs with only occasional starts. It'll get him acquainted with some of our future starters too. Signing Suzuki keeps looking better and better.
  9. Very encouraging to see Arcia and Willingham step back into the lineup and contribute immediately. We need em bad because most of the hot bats from the first quarter have cooled off. Gives me hope that this team might not sink back into the abyss.
  10. Bert just called Cano...."Canoe" That's a new one
  11. Well I'm sure the Twins medical staff knows what they're doing.
  12. More realistically, how about Josh Reddick? Check this out: http://www.rotoworld.com/player/mlb/5220 Maybe he's still dealing with the injury from last year and that's why the As want to send him down but if he's healthy and the As have just soured on him, he could be worth a look. He's 27 and should be hitting his prime. Perhaps we can take advantage of Beane's wheelin'-and-dealin' tendencies and buy low on this guy.
  13. That $30 could have bought you a bottle of Jameson, which you'll need when the team settles back into their nice 3-years-and-counting rut
  14. That's really the meat of this discussion now. There's the idea out there that if Joe doesn't turn into a typical slugging firstbaseman that he's somehow taken a step back. Nonsense. If he keeps doing what he's always done I think he's a shoe-in for the HOF. The numbers are there, regardless of what people's expectations are. Having said that...I'd be lying if said I haven't had dreams of Joe turning into just such a power-bat 1B. He might do it, too. He's not gonna be a guy who launches 30-40 bombs a year but it's not far fetched to think he could manage around 20 per season. It would just most likely come with a noticeable dip in BA/OBP.
  15. Yup, it really comes back to these guys doesn't it? We need some big bats in the middle of the lineup and these are the guys to do it. Arcia will be in that mix too but obviously more is demanded from Willingham and Plouffsie and this point. The funny thing about that, those are two guys who are prime candidates to be traded if they start to perform at the plate. So that's an odd situation, but I think you have to do it in both cases. I'm not sure they would fetch much in return, though. So really, the Twins need to find some offense so they can flip it for future gains.
  16. I actually had some issues with this draft the other night, kept booting me out of the draft room. First time that's happened to me. Kept saying I was already logged in on a different computer. Could be because I still still had the yahoo window open on my computer at work. I've played fantasy football on other sites but only yahoo for baseball. I found yahoo to be way better than the other places and the recent redesign has taken a little getting used to but it's better overall. They had it for the first time last football season and this is the first time for baseball. Draft room could use an update tho, it's still the same way it's been for years.
  17. What's wrong with Yahoo? I've never played on a different website so interested to know why you don't care for it. I think it's pretty slick.
  18. Still looking for managers. We've got 9 right now so we need at least one more for sure. PM me here or send an email to shadazar AT yahoo DOT com if you are interested or have questions. 5x5 Yahoo mixed H2H league, standard roster setup but also an NA slot. Roster moves allowed every day (takes effect the next day). Come get some!
  19. Would be very surprising if he took the deal. Isn't this what a lot of people expected from TR, though? Wait until the demands of guys like Jimenez and Santana dropped, then make a reasonable offer. Maybe Ryan thought it was a good time to pounce, considering that Ervin just fired his agent a few days ago.
  20. Anybody looking to join another league? Me and some local buddies have had a Yahoo H2H mixed league going for 5-6 years but we had a few people drop out this year and we're currently sitting at only 8 teams. We'd like to get it to at least 10, preferably 12. Live online draft (Yahoo) is on Wednesday the 19th @ 8pm central time. If you want to join or have questions, send me a PM or post here.
  21. lol that's ridiculous. If the Brewers are now saying that no deal has been made, then maybe it's because Garza has some injury concerns.
  22. No thanks. Franklin wouldn't be the guy I'd go after if I wanted one of Seattle's middle infielders. I don't like the idea of moving Dozier back to SS. He needs to stay at second. Not so sure I'd trade Hicks just yet. What's the rush? If he can come back and put up decent numbers his value will only increase. Remember, Dozier looked like crap when he first came up as well.
  23. Plenty of rumblings lately about the Dodgers possibly trading Kemp. Speculation for targets has centered on the Red Sox and Mariners mostly, but the Twins should really be checking in on this. Big time "buy low" opportunity. The Dodgers have said they want to replenish their farm system so, aside from the untouchable trinity of Buxton-Sano-Meyer, would you put together a combo platter of top 10 prospects for him? Back-to-back injury ruined seasons doesn't worry me too much. Doesn't mean he's injury prone, could just be bad luck. Seems like a gamble maybe worth taking. When he was healthy just a couple years ago he was arguably the best outfielder in the game.
  24. I like the thinking here but not sure I agree with the players you proposed. The Mariners signed Cano so now they're in a spot where they really need to put some talent around him. They'd look like fools if they didn't. So they're looking like a prime trade partner candidate going into the winter meetings. I just don't think they'll be much interested in Correia or even Perkins. They're looking for bats. Hammer of course, but would they also want Plouffe? Arcia? I like the idea of trading for a good SS prospect so Taylor is intriguing, but their glut of pitching talent is also interesting (according to fangraphs, 7 of their top 10 prospects are pitchers). Taijuan Walker is probably too expensive, but what about the other 6 guys? Shucks, would you trade Sano for Walker? But ya, TR should be talking to Seattle. Pounce, Terry! Pounce!
  25. The best thing about Doumit is he uses Danzig "Mother" as his walk-up music. I almost spit my beer over the person in front of me when I was at a game a few years ago and heard it. Pure awesome
