It isn't blah, blah, blah. Dozier is better than Alexi Casilla. But that does not mean that Dozier replaces Casilla before Dozier has had a chance to prove himself this year in the minors. He had an excellent 2011 as an MI. But only into AA. I would have liked to see that extend to AAA this year, but the Twins have a ridiculous view about AAA. Dozier was NOT good in his limited time, but they promoted him anyway. I would have preferred him seeing time at both MI positions at Rochester and posting a .720+ OPS before calling him up. Casilla was there all along. Florimon has less upside and could have been the other guy on the roster when Valencia was demoted. Or Burroughs. I haven't seen the evidence of that yet, sadly.

Well he's averaged around 8.0 K/9 over 6 minor league seasons, has a sub 2.00 ERA at Rochester this year and most importantly he's 23, I think I would hedge my bets that Hendriks has a better chance of improving enough to be a decent 3 or 4 starter in the majors than any of the others do The only lefty in that group is Duensing and the only one with any kind of major league plus pitch is Deduno with that loopy curve, unfortunately that is somewhat mitigated by his overall unfamiliarity with the strike zone half the time.

If you can deal Willingham for significant help for the future - you worry about questions like this later. Not a concern, unless you were targeting another 33 year old free agent. If you signed a younger free agent and he did what he was signed to do, why would you move him? Much of the thought on this has to do with a 33 year old having a career year, you don't get the opportunity to cash in on that very often

Yeah after today, Devries should be on the hot seat too. Even after today, De Vries has been the second best starting pitcher for the Twins this season (and still leads the starters in K/9.) He earned a spot in the rotation. So did Deduno. You got to see whether these guys are part of the equation (as number 4 and 5 after Diamond) for 2013. So they got to pitch. Blackburn should be in the hot seat and I don't know how many more times Duensing needs to prove that he is great in the pen but iffy as a starter. Very much Perkins like. I am all for giving Swarzak another chance to start (he did have sporadic success there previously), but Duensing (or Blackburn) should move to the pen instead of demoting the Twins' second best starter. How so? Diamond and Deduno have been more effective than Devries. The 3rd best starter on a rotation like this is nothing to be proud of. Devries did better than expected and his dream came true this season. I'm happy for him and that's cool. The Twins aren't a miracle network (unlike their High A affiliate) for players who won't cut it at the professional level, however. If the Twins were to trot out the same guys as they did this year, it would be a disaster. Devries is an extremely risky low ceiling player who has pitched inconsistently for 60 Innings. I hope you don't think Walters should get a shot as well. I for one would like to see some free agents on the team for 2013. Not AAA players. I'm not even sold on Deduno right now. Yep, other than Diamond this rotation needs the detonator set to obliterate. Next year's rotation better not include the names Devries, Blackburn, Deduno, Walters, Duensing or Swarzak. Diamond will be fine, Hendriks needs the chance and has a higher ceiling than any of them, 2 free agents who can actually pitch and one of the aforementioned motley crew until Gibson is ready in June.

How so? Trade them both if you can get a couple of major league ready starters and a bunch of young parts, the more the better. The power is still there with Doumit, Plouffe and either Morneau or Parms next year. Willingham isn't going to hit 30 again next year and Span seems like he's a fatality waiting to happen.

Well I agree partly with the Blackie part, although he got sent down at one point this year as well, was that to humiliate him? Duensing is only starting (which he shouldn't be) because Pavano is a mess and Hendriks is working on his super-duper Tilt-a Whirl pitch before he gets called back up. With all the other gaping holes this team had to fill last off-season and cut payroll, what were they to spend on a free agent MI other than Carroll or who were they going to give up on in trade? I don't see Dozier's demotion as a humiliation, it should have come earlier but's it not designed to embarrass him, plus at this point I really don't think it needs to be something we sell our soul to fill for next year.

Without Infante on 3rd that hit by Cabrera is a lazy single but he's gets ordained as an RBI machine and Infante is just the guy who happened upon the plate.

The RBI statistic is still useless, it's what leads to them that possesses meaning. That hasn't changed. Theyre both important. When they start adding up how many reached first base at the end of the game rather than how many crossed home plate, I'll change my opinion. The do add up how often guys reach base and if it wasn't for those guys RBI's would be meaningless.
