  1. Quite the contrived little lecture. Is everyone entitled to an opinion as long as it's yours?
  2. Right back at you.
  3. When some people read or hear certain things they often choose to express how it makes them feel. I don't think that makes them holier than thou, nor does it mean they think themselves as special. You choose to shake your head and I'll choose to make a passing comment, I don't presume to think that makes me any more special than you do.
  4. There's a time and place for your devil's advocate routine, this isn't it. Homosexuals should not have to endure discrimination and hatred of this kind and turning a blind eye to it because it doesn't directly affect you is ignorant and wrong. Guys like Hunter are a special kind of ignoramus, using their undeserved celebrity to trumpet their ridiculous and uneducated beliefs, thinking that any intelligent human being actually cares what they think.
  5. I'll always hope for the Twins, sometimes that hope takes on different meanings. It can mean hoping they do what I'd like them to do when it comes to free agents, it can mean hoping they make or don't make a particular trade or it can mean hoping that they promote a player I'm really looking forward to seeing, sooner than later, or even signing a player I'd like to see more of to an extension. All of those hopes though are inextricably linked to the one great hope, the one hope that I just can't rid myself, no matter how hard I try. That is the simple hope that the Twins will win. No matter how much I disagree with them, no matter how much they may frustrate me, no matter how much they try to make me lose hope, I always find myself hoping they will win. I will be down a number of times to watch them play again, the games I attend I will hope that they play well but I'll likely enjoy the games no matter. Maybe it's because I'm not spoiled enough to be able to enjoy the games whenever I choose, that I enjoy them all that much more when I get the chance to go. Target field has certainly increased that enjoyment for me, no matter how the Twins play, the sights, sounds and smells are always the same and at the end of the day, it's baseball.
  6. I'm a huge Mornie supporter, for obvious homer reasons he's been my favourite Twin since he came up with the big club. The last couple of years have been painful to watch him struggle the way he has, although last year provided at least some glimpses of hope that he was moving past his injuries. Morneau is a crucial element for the Twins and a key piece to their future. Regardless of how much it would pain me, a productive, healthy Morneau would be an invaluable trade chip for this club to help it build for 2014 and beyond. A strong, injury free first half would draw considerable interest in my mind.
  7. When it come to Wilson, I think we should just think about what to think about.
  8. I love all this, "he's good with the older guys", "he's no good with the young generation", "he's good with guys who are ready", "he's no good with the up and comers". Good stuff, all hearsay but good stuff. Nobody here knows Gardy's relationship with any of the players, I'm sure over the years he's had his ups and downs with many guys, which have consistently been a mix of young and old alike. As far as him losing the room, why? Because he reaffirmed in some interviews what everybody saw during a game? Are we talking about how he pointed out the obvious when he referred to how crappy Dozier played some games and that he had to be more consistent? Or when he had the gall to tell everybody that Blackburn just had to bear down and get it done or when he observed that Hendriks had to quit f***ing around and throw goddamn strikes? I don't think Gardy ever called out a veteran player and those are the guys who you need to worry about when losing a room, not a bunch of players who should thank their lucky stars they're even getting an opportunity and that many people would quickly forget as soon as the door hit them in the ass after they left. If those guys decided it wasn't worth listening to Gardy, then they need re-evaluate their stature in the game and realize how tenuous their hold is on a major league job, especially when they play for the Twins! The team should be in a position to compete by 2014 and possibly contend by 2015-16, I think they can do that with or without Gardy, I'm fine either way.
  9. Who is staggered by 5 Mil on a 3-4 starter? I'm staggered by 10 Mil over 2 years for a borderline 5th starter with no upside.
  10. Should that depress me about the "ace" of the rotation or encourage me about Correia? I'm not trying to defend the Correia signing as a great one, far from it. Just suggesting it's not as bad as is being made out here. It''s absolutely as bad as it's being made out to be.
  11. Fair enough. I think this offseason should be more about getting the most reward for the buck. If that comes with a lot of risk, so be it. That was my stance, the trouble with Correia is that he's safely awful and we guaranteed a staggering amount of money for that. Won't contest that last point, agreed.
  12. We already know the answer - they wanted a team option and he didn't. That appeared to be the crux of the issue. I don't disagree that it would have been nice to have, but saying "see ya" because 5.5M was "Excessive"? Um, no. It's not a matter of being a lock, Baker was a damn good AL pitcher in the past. But contracts being the same (5M) I'll take "slated to be ready, but a rough recent injury history with significant talent" over "durably not very good" any day of the week. We have durable and not very good, that's not what we should have been after. I didn't say it was excessive, although I can understand anyone at the time Baker was signed, thinking 5.5M was a bigger risk than necessary. You can't deny there is a notable risk involved. I'm not comparing the two deals anyway, that whole thing is irrelevant, I'm in the neither camp, Correia is awful and Baker is too risky considering the situation we're in.
  13. Why is the Baker signing such a great move again? We know this? Hasn't played in almost two years, Tommy John last April, he's a lock? I'm not defending JR for the Correia signing, brutal and unnecessary, but that has nothing to do with me thinking that Baker would have been worth the risk. I don't believe the Twins didn't give Baker a similar deal as the Cubs because they felt it was overpaying, I think they just felt it was too high considering the risk and where it would have left them if it didn't work out.
  14. "The greatest lesson in life is to know that even fools are right sometimes" - Winston Churchill. Congratulations.
  15. Embarrassing, if there was one guy I could hate as much as Blackie it's Kevin f***ing Correia!! Damn TR, you're killing me! http://www.websmileys.com/sm/mad/1018.gif http://www.websmileys.com/sm/mad/076.gif
  16. Again, he's a good pitcher. He's not a great one. And you don't pay $25m to that kind of guy This, just this.......again.
  17. There is a thread about this is the Questions section, although nothing was able to be resolved. I have been running into the problem a fair amount but it's very intermittent. Sometimes I have to reload the page a half dozen times before it works, then it just goes away.
  18. I'm confused, he should be the front runner but he shouldn't be? Catastrophic? Really?
  19. I get the first question but the second two are confusing the hell out of me. Are they answers posed as questions? You're tricksy.
  20. Hmmm. Okay As opposed to who? Sorry rhetorical question.
  21. Let's set aside the fact that Hicks had a good, but not great, year at New Britain, and is hardly a solid bet to be a plus player on Opening Day. If you bring him up you're still just trading two months of Aaron Hicks the prospect for a year of Aaron Hicks the seasoned major leaguer in his prime, and hopefully playing for a contender instead of a rebuilder. If this were the Yankees, then yes, you could just buy that year back with an extension without another thought. But it's the Twins, and if you extend him you'll be paying a premium to do so and taking money from a finite pool. The loss of that money could very likely result in the loss of a veteran or a budget issue that prevents a free agent signing. I am setting aside the facts that it may be too early, talent wise. I'm just saying the decision about whether he is or isn't, shouldn't be about money. Paying at a "premium" is pretty speculative, if Hicks lives up to the hype then the team should decide on the premium themselves by offering an early extension, instead of arbitration setting the price, either way they are going to pay. I just don't believe a move like that is going to cost the team in the future the same way you seem to think it will. The whole issue is hardly that big a deal though, would I like to see him play? Yes, would it cause a bunch of contrived angst if I had to wait for two months? No.
  22. I don't understand the lament over the Greinke signing. It's a six year deal at $25m per and Greinke has an opt-out after the third season. Greinke is a good pitcher. He's not a great one and that kind of money and years is ridiculous. This, just this. http://www.websmileys.com/sm/fingers/fing32.gif
  23. If he performs up to expectations then they'll look to extend him in a couple of years anyway. If he can play now, he should play.
  24. Fair enough, but what else would you expect him to say? "I took a big risk here folks, gave up a lot but I'm pretty sure it's a good move". His statement is called, rhetoric. This may make sense for the Royals right now, although certainly no given. I don't believe a move like this makes sense for the Twins given where they are at, in a couple of years if Gibson, Meyer, May, Sano, et al are performing as expected, sure, but not now.
