  1. Oh, great, let's talk up his trade value with the deadline just three months away!
  2. So I get home and turn on the tv, and not only does L.L. Bomb immediately give up a 2nd deck homer to Russ Martin, but a Twins fan biffs the catch and a guy and gal in Russ Martin shersies celebrate coming up with the rebound, including a mock throw of the ball back onto the field. The Twins are so bad right now that they're affecting the performance of the fans.
  3. I've made an honest effort to find anything in your remarks that suggest that you're judging her life by anything other than a highly partisan double standard and I haven't succeeded, so I'm just going to leave it at that.
  4. I imagine it would be something like the multi-ball mode of Kiss Army pinball, but with less face paint and more bunting. The thought of three slow-rolling sac bunts in play at once is sending shivers down my spine! That, or maybe the sciatic is flaring up again.
  5. I'm so optimistic I wish they could play all five of those games right now.
  6. If you have these talks on the L, please make sure that you have first selected the Internal Monologue Only option in your brain's Dialog dropdown menu.
  7. The consensus that the Katrina comment constitutes the bulk of the evidence that Barbara Bush was a racist and bigot is pretty much what I expected. It makes me sad rather than mad. But I'm not going to defend her comment or her life. The former doesn't warrant a defense, and the latter doesn't need one. Instead, I'm just going to say that I respected Michelle Obama a great deal as a First Lady and role model, and then I'm going to invite your kind attention to your left foot. Is there a shoe on it that matches the one on the right? There should be (especially if you're at work), and if you listen very carefully, you can hear that shoe saying "For the first time in my adult lifetime, I’m really proud of my country". What your left shoe is trying to tell you is that although words matter, a single quote from a person constantly in the public eye is a vastly inferior way to take stock of that person's life compared to their actions. And gunnar, your left shoe is also saying it's time for new Odor Eaters.
  8. Was specifically referring to the letting go of Hughes part of the transaction. Agree that Hale has done little and is likely nothing special, but his career is less conclusively over that Hughes'. I'm usually not a fan of an organization making moves primarily to 'send a message' to its players and/or staff, including taking an under-performing veteran out behind the proverbial barn and shooting them. But in the case of Hughes it's clear that he can't pitch effectively now and probably won't do so ever again. Keeping him on the roster tells the rest of the organization either that sunk cost equals job security, or that the Twins organization is still so bereft of pitching that nobody else has so much as a prayer of being better than a guy who is currently awful.
  9. Bigoted, racist, and elitist? That's really just cut-and-paste liberal dismissal of virtually every conservative in America, isn't it? What specifically racist and bigoted things did she do or say? As for elitism, even the New York Times, for heaven's sake, went out of its way to acknowledge repeatedly that whatever else Mrs. Bush was, she was emphatically not an elitist in the eyes of anyone but the most brazenly partisan Dem character assassins.
  10. It would be interesting to hear you elaborate on this if you wouldn't mind.
  11. Sounds ok to me. If nothing else, it would send the shocking message that going forward the roster will be constructed primarily based on performance(!) rather than financial standing.
  12. 'Berrios and Gibson, and then go read Ibsen'. Or then go watch Ibson. He's a midfielder for Minnesota United. That's a soccer team that reportedly plays in Minnesota. I looked it up. Because nothing else rhymes with 'Gibson', and not everyone reads 19th century Scandinavian plays and poems... I'm told. Frequently.
  13. But now the heavy burden brought about by the expectation of competitive Twins baseball has been lifted, so we're free to enjoy the rest of the four-game series just on the merits of their poor play, instead of on the crushing disappointment of the outcome.
  14. I'm about to hit myself in the head pretty hard with a mid-sized LED tv, if that qualifies. But there wouldn't be much mystery as to why, and you probably meant one of the Twins anyway.
  15. Saving him for higher leverage situation.
  16. Probably, but nobody on the Twins is doing what they're supposed to tonight, so I wouldn't feel too bad about it.
  17. Right now I hate the Twins just for being a party to enabling the weeping sore that is this ESPN booth crew.
  18. At least there they had the excuse of a heat index roughly the same as Hades with the windows closed. Now they look like they just don't like baseball very much.
  19. Well, at least he didn't foul it off his migraine.
  20. Yup, no telling how this will turn out... http://publish.illinois.edu/mesomodel/files/2016/01/car.jpg
  21. So you're saying that Gleyber Torres' quest for his first major league hit isn't compelling enough to keep you watching? That's not very Gleyberly of you.
  22. The equipment guy has the batting helmets shined up pretty nice.
