  1. And a 9-8 start with the worst run differential in the Central, no less. Better start than the realists dared hope for? Yes. Meaningful indication that the Twins are competitive? No, not yet.
  2. Nobody is denying that Gardy is immensely popular with the RBI/wins/hustle/get off my lawn fossils that generate the buzz for meaningless crap like "Manage of the Year". But some people look at Gardenhire's profound hatred of statistical analysis, his historical, career-long postseason faceplant, and his disturbing fetishes with useless utility players, third catchers, purposely making outs, batting the team's worst hitter second. etc. And they dare to imagine something better. Also, I think that the prediction that the Mets would snap Gardy up "in a heartbeat" is a fantastic synopsis of who he is as a manager, albeit completely opposite of the way you intended.
  3. Great question, never thought of that angle for a coach/manager. Has Gardy been holding out? Will have to punch myself in the face if he goes to New York and out-saber duels Joe Maddon.
  4. At first I was like, duh, who wouldn't? And then I realized: Oh, you meant mimic the gymnastic feat of the person in the picture, not...uh, ok, never mind.
  5. Terry Ryan seemed to think there was considerable room for improvement, since he addressed the topic his first frigging day back on the job. And while everybody is thrilled by the fact that the Twins were relatively healthy in the previous decade, the fact is that they lead the league in DL utilization in 2011 and spent a good chunk of 2012 with a 24 man (or fewer) roster while injured players sat in the dugout. Also, please be sure to enlighten all the "idiots" who haven't heard the new evidence that the Twins didn't make a mistake with Hardy's injury.
  6. Try to update us every half hour and PM your emergency contact info to a mod so we don't have to feel guilty about egging you on...
  7. Good call. Found my favorite.
  8. Yeah, people do crazy stuff to protect their jobs when they have titans of the game like Clete Thomas and Joe Benson breathing down their necks...
  9. Anybody significantly increasing either long or even short term expectations based on the Twins finishing 10 percent of their season with the worst run differential in the AL Central is... well, I guess the polite term would be aggressively optimistic. And if you were really cynical about Hicks, you could have compared his MLB debut to drowning instead of just immersion. At any rate, it will be interesting to see how long he can sustain a walk rate above 15% with a batting average below .100 and K's in a third of his AB's.
  10. Morneau 2012 vs. LHP, over 200 PA's: .232/.271/.298 . vs. RHP: .290/.371/.531. 2013 vs. LHP: .188/.235/.250 vs. RHP: .279/.354/.419 Yes, he's not right, but even more not right against the left lately.
  11. Awesome imagery find. And hey, some of us have been down this sort of road, like being found in a compromising situation with unidentical, underage squash twins. http://jimbonham.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/Squash-Casserole.jpg
  12. Bite your tongue, young man. Doumit just hit a laser to left, according to gamecast. It ain't over til a fat lady pugdog friend of a mod.... Ok, I'm banned for life. I get it. Goodbye, cruel fanboard.
  13. Maybe this is a lazy take, but it sure looks like Justin has lost the ability to hit left-handed pitching. Just stats, not Jedi scouting, but he just isn't getting it done vs. same side pitchers.
  14. I blame Rule V and snow. Gotta see what we have, right now...
  15. Hello?!? What about "professional"?
  16. Hey, get off of Glunn's squeeze, like Scooby just did. Ok, that was uncalled for, even in a game thread.
  17. Look into her eyes and you're a goner: http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mau4srSNns1qb34sjo1_400.gif
  18. Yes, via Professional Engineer (PE) exam. Same one electrical and civil engineers take. Pass rate is very low, I hear. But desire fulfillment technicians need not be certified, licensed, or bonded. You get what you pay for...
  19. Denton True "Cy" Correia. C^2 to his cybermetric fan club.
  20. Tried to post that very thing, but the TD server seemed tied up with an unusually heavy amount of traffic. My guess is that it's a whole bunch of TD posters walking back their 'Aaron Hicks: 2013 RoY!' predictions. Maybe once those die down the 'Correia haterz' will be able to complete their penance for CC's dazzling start.
  21. By not being on the DL already? But it does look like the brutal-to-ok ratio might increase tonight...
  22. When did anyone push for three CF's on the 25 man roster? With one bench spot going to the backup catcher, two backup CF's would use half the available bench positions. Nobody wanted that. Several people (including me) were concerned about the possibility that with no time in AAA, Hicks may not be ready (!!!) and about the near certainty that Benson would be a mess like last year. We just wanted to see a more realistic CF backup option in AAA than Brandon Boggs in case Hicks faltered or Mastro was hurt. Shockingly, both those things have already happened. And comparing the Ramos trade to what the Twins might have to 'give up' (PTBNL?) to get a guy like Borbon is just silly. Nobody was suggesting anything like that.
  23. It's interesting that he used to take more heat for leaving the youngsters in too long. Now he seems to have a quicker hook, including tha veterans.
  24. Dude, I totally get the frustration with Plouffe. He's the second coming of Gaetti at the plate some days (or even weeks), and other times he looks like a blindfolded Joe Crede. He shows flashes of solid or better defense, then follows them up with the one-armed grenade juggler plays. Meanwhile, back on Planet Sano, it looks microscopically more tonight than yesterday that Sano may impact the futures of Morneau/Parmelee (Mornelee? Parmeau?) as much as Plouffie's. He went 2 of 3 with a walk, a double, and an error. Yes, it's just three week into the season, but he' batting .377 and sporting an OPS around 1.150. The double helped offset the error to keep his EEBH ratio (errors to extra base hits) below the .500 ratio.
  25. I'm thrilled for hicks that he's drawing walks, and maybe that's a sign that the rest of it will start coming around. That being said, if I'm an opposing manager and I see a my fresh reliever walk Aaron Hicks, a watercolor's life is immediately forfeit.
