  1. Not so fast, Lee Harvey. I totally rustproofed all that boilerplate with self-deprecation at the end. Also, I'm the guy at the game who the guy muttering at the end of the aisle is afraid of being out-crazied by, and who breaks the sacred vendor-customer fan relay by randomly handing a purchased bratwurst 90 degrees off course.
  2. Remain calm. You are suffering from the early stages of anti-Twins syndrome. Help is on the way....http://twilightswarden.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/large_minority_report_blu-ray1.jpg
  3. I smell reality show. That, or takeout and dog poo.
  4. Initially the the coppery taste of my own blood caused by the ingestion of tiny glass shards concealed the hint of rust finish to the fruity Nestle' Quik bouquet, but eventually the rust won out. Which is odd, since the outside was plastic. And quite frankly, the whole rig was probably cheap. There were only three Star Wars characters on the lunchbox: 'Easily Duped, Crooked-shooting Stormtrooper', 'Useless Gas Pump-shaped Droid Who Wanders Around and Says "Gonk" Over and Over', and 'Scary Plus-sized Exotic Dancer in Jabba's Palace'. I tried without success to package it with some Fritos and a Mattel handheld football 'video' game with a dodgy 'up' key in an attempt to trade up for a friend's SW lunchbox that featured rebel pilot 'Porkins', whose X-wing blows up when he fails to note the overhang clearance limit when "attacking" the Death Star Burger King drive-through featuring a 2 for 1 bacon double cheeseburger promotion. No go. Oh, crap. The bears for detail are talking about the game in the game thread again, aren't they? Fine. When in Rome. So Doumit is still possessed or a zombie, huh? Plus that whole homer thing...
  5. Depends on whether you made the cut for the gifted program there. Also, I have it on good authority that alums prefer the term 'gladiator academy'.
  6. It's certainly possible. He just said that Deduno "shaved the outside corner" on a pitch that Mauer caught on the second bounce while laying on his side about 10 feet or so from the plate. Say, has anyone else noted how much of a defensive stiff Mauer has become?
  7. i... just dotted. Or not. Depends.
  8. I had a Star Wars lunchbox thermos that became like that. Stopped using it a few weeks later.
  9. Dick noted that everyone in KC is wondering where Eric Hosmer's power went. My guess: same place as Justin Morneau's... http://homoclimbtastic.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/thelma-and-louise-soaring.png
  10. Hicks is fast, no question, but he didn't look exceptionally quick in the first three or four strides. Maybe it was more the late jump. At any rate, I'm ok with him getting more chances to run, even if some of those chances exceed what's best for the optimal run-scoring strategy. If it costs them runs, tough hop. It's the cost of conducting on-the-job training at the major league level.
  11. Or people umpires who are good...
  12. Gotta leave'em in to get the QS...
  13. I was expecting him to start the season in AAA, and am still expecting him to see time there. Haven't seen anything that leads me to believe that's an unrealistic or wrong expectation.
  14. You're in the majority of the fan base as far as wanting to bring him back. He's one of the most popular Twins of the last 10 years, and it's hard for the front office to ignore that with attendance in the toilet last year.
  15. And word has it he also rescued four kids and their mom from a house fire on the way to the ballpark today...
  16. Anyone arguing that the Twins' subjective opinion of Son of Sal's defense s evidence that he's worth a 40 spot needs the the Twins to be nearly perfect at evaluating talent before their opinion carries much weight against the fact that he can't hit.
  17. Your counter-argument to the empirical fact that Son of Sal is one of the worst hitters of the modern era is the entirely subjective speculation that his defensive value outweighs his offensive liability because he has a job playing baseball in a level of the minors where veterans his age are usually as interchangeable as gas grill propane tanks. You further speculate that he has that job because of what you are mostly guessing is the collective opinion of Twins talent evaluators. And you imply that they must be right about SoS despite the fact that they are largely the same outfit that publicly dedicated itself to improving what is currently the worst 'rotation' in baseball, p!ssed away over 20 million dollars on Blackburn and Nishioka, and traded a HoF-caliber pitcher in his prime for a bag of magic beans that grew up to be Jim Hoey. Why are they right? Because, hey, they also have jobs with a franchise that's lost nearly 100 games the past two seasons and was on pace to do so again as recently as last weekend. Not sure how the Twins' questionable decision to overpay Butera helps their credibility, or your argument for that matter.
  18. From a talent standpoint the Twins can't afford to value a player like Morneau the old-school way. From a financial standpoint it's hard to argue that the Twins couldn't afford Morneau with the low-rent squad they're currently fielding.
  19. By batting .341. Not quite sure what that has to do with Justin Morneau, who has batted over .300 in a full season only once, pre-concussion. Morneau's probably going to pick up the home run pace, but will have an awfully hard time sustaining his non-homer RBI pace. At any rate, RBI is one of the most meaningless hitter metrics in the game, and if the Twins pay any attention to it in their valuation of Morneau, they deserve to fail as an organization.
  20. When was the last time a player drove in 100 runs in a season while hitting just 10 homers?
  21. Because people are beginning to realize that a good chunk of his "top-notch" defensive reputation can be attributed to Nichols' Law of Catcher Defense?
  22. First basemen who can't hit home runs don't get a 10 million dollar/ 1 year deal, let alone 10 a year for 3 or 4, do they?
  23. My guess is that there's a pretty good reason why no team in major league baseball ever gives 500 plate appearances to ANY player who bats .170, let alone a 23 year old prospect who skipped a level and could work on his game in the minors. It's not going to happen. He'll either improve substantially, or be demoted regardless of the Twins' self-inflicted 'necessity'.
  24. One of the little things that differentiates the defense of corner infielders is how well they make plays in the area that overlaps the foul territory zone of the respective corner infielder. Parmelee showed again tonight that he's excellent at getting to fly balls in foul territory. Those catches don't prevent hits directly, but they're free outs that some corner outfielders just can't cash in on regularly. It's a part of the pleasant surprise that he's not only not a defensive liability in right, he seems like he's developing into a plus there.
