  1. Positions are determined at random during pregame? Totally in.
  2. Family photo in front of Bemidji's Babe the Blue Oxymoron. No, I'm not using my liquid waste to desecrate the false impersonators of the One True Babe in Brainerd. Just looking for Mom's heart medicine in reverse fanny pack. http://search.it.online.fr/BIGart/wp-content/paul-bunyan-babe-the-blue-ox-1937.jpg Not trying to be PC, but if Bonnes actually hated a ballplayer, guessing it would be a White Sock. Just sayi... Ooh! Look! Butterfly! http://37.media.tumblr.com/599edf7067fa9692fa772a3a65c06178/tumblr_n1ct8eenIe1ssnp7ro1_400.gif
  3. Could be wrong, but pretty sure the documentary baseball film Major League shows Cuban great Pedro Cerrano flailing away at breaking balls in BP. http://bearlybullogging.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/cerrano.jpg Anyway, you're probably right, but then why would Hicks make that request after nearly a season's worth of MLB BP devoid of breaking stuff? Off-topic bonus question for all: how is the Twins franchise better off for Gardy making that remark?
  4. Remember the name of that adult entertainer in Laguna Beach? I do. It was April. It's not the money, I do it for you... http://gregorymancuso.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Jay-Mohr-acting-movie-still-from-Jerry-Maguire-role.jpg
  5. Good point, but there's the counter that guys like Suzuki, Escobar, and others could take a step back from their early success. Kubel posted a 122 wRC in April and may have a single digit number of games as Twin left after a 39 wRC May and Arcia's loud return. And a whole bunch of Twins April offense fed off of the feel-good month that Colabello had. It looks like a net wash to me at best. Hoping that a healthy Willi might hit well enough to bring something worthwhile in trade, and Arcia... well, what a series, fingers crossed for his future.
  6. A few, but NCAA wrestling viewership has virtually disappeared since professional indoor mixed martial hang-gliding stole its audience. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3f/Christopher_Daniels_1.jpg
  7. Agree with the latter point, but feel even more strongly that Gardy (with the FO's blessing, or tolerance at least) doesn't get it either. He has a tendency to have young players on a pedestal or in the doghouse more often that seems to be warranted. The absurd amount of continued confidence shown in Hicks last season was flat out irrational. And now, two months into this season, he's being needlessly publicly chastised (if not outright mocked) while unlearning switch hitting at the major league level, as if that weren't enough on his plate alone.
  8. Escobar was even bumped up to the two spot, so they probably have enough confidence to let him regress from his unsustainable .400 BABIP without much concern for the time being. But yes, it would be nice to see Santana playing every day at short. If the Twins don't think he's ready for that, I'd settle for reading about him playing short every day in AAA. Escobar has been a pleasant surprise so far, but organizational depth of shortstop talent is thin enough that it would be disappointing not to have Danny fully developing both his defense and offense skills as a shortstop. If Hicks can't get it together, though, it would appear that all bets are off. If he's sent down and Santana has to primarily play center, then let's hope he gets the majority of the AB's there, with Fuld spelling him against tough RHP. At any rate, he's fun to watch, and a bit like early Gomez or Revere with his athleticism and rawness combing to make for both spectacular and strange plays. Fun closing SSS number. Santana's BABIP vs. lefties is 1.00. 11 PA's, 4 K's, 2 BB's, 5 balls in play, all hits.
  9. Kubel with one RBI in 67 May PA's. Thanks for the memories, good luck in your future endeavors.
  10. There are several good fangraphs articles that are not a comprehensive study but do tend to indicate that most players who are going to be really good are productive before 25, or else productive almost immediately if promoted later than that. Part of the problem for Hicks is that guys like Gomez or Christian Guzman who stick in the majors despite taking a long time to figure it out at the plate usually offer very strong defense. Hicks will probably need to improve his defense if he's going to get substantially more time to figure things out in the majors, and the Buxton arrival clock, while temporarily stopped, will start ticking again soon.
  11. Hey, he's on pace for a 196 pitch CGSHO!
  12. Yeah. As much fun as Santana has been offensively, he's been almost equally unfun in center. Another option out there besides Hicks can only be a good thing, even though it's just Fuld.
  13. Good stuff about bad stuff. Based on hazy recollections of Saturday morning cartoons, pretty sure Twins can have Hicks tread air until ACME can deliver a new interim CF from... http://allthingsd.com/files/2011/06/wile-e-coyote1.jpg

  15. Not exactly Hughesian efficiency or elusiveness (more Gibsonian, really), but Nolasco got the job done against the team that is scissors to the Twins' paper...
  16. When I was a little kid, Mayo physicians told my mom she would never walk again after a terrible car accident that nearly claimed her life. In their defense, they were not aware of how rapidly PT had advanced and what it was capable of. But decades later, with the aid of a cane, true grit that would make Rooster blush, and months of intensive, sometimes excruciating PT, she has worn out a boatload of shoes doing what the best doctors in the world said she couldn't. So tell your son congratulations from some random goofball on the internet. Or maybe leave out the random and the goofball. He's your kid, you decide. And congrats to you too.
  17. Respect for Arcia's arm already growing. Rope into the corner and McCann doesn't even make a big turn. Granted he's a catcher and all, but... Edit: scooped by chitown, but making up for being late with a bonus question: At some point, will Arcia attempt to throw out a runner at first, ala Larry Walker's Montreal days?
