  1. I remember the day that Jose moved into the house. The conversation went something like this: "Jose, what do you like to eat?" A long pause and Jose says "I no eat shrimp. They make me go POOF!" So needless to say, he didn't eat shrimp. He loves cookie and cream ice cream and he is an EARLY riser. 1st to bed after the baseball game and dinner and was always up by the time I left for work in the morning. He was a joy to have him my home and I wish him nothing but happiness and success.
  2. I messaged Oswaldo on July 4th and I told him that I didn't think that there were to many 22 year olds that can say that they have a hit off of Pettitte, Hughes and Sabathia. He was happy that his "Elizabethton Mom" was keeping track of his progress. Oswaldo will be fine. Remember, he won't be 23 until May.
  3. I don't think we need to bring AJ in. I say give it to Josmil... but I wouldn't be a little bit prejudice, would I?
  4. Jorge has amazing velocity for 6'3" and 168#. They call him 6:00 because he is so tall and thin. I tried all summer to turn him into 6:15 without success. He is a great kid and his English got good enough this summer to be able to understand humor in English. I can't wait to see him in March.
  5. Pinto hit another HR today - the only offense the Twins had
  6. AJ! No more injuries. You had a career full after taking that fastball in Johnson City. Good luck, heal quick and I'll see you in March.
  7. On the personable side: Pinto is friendly, gracious and easy going. He is welcome in my home again anytime. Truly a gentleman and will become a fan favorite in the majors.
  8. I say Pinto. He was put on the 40 man roster because of his bat. He has moved from AA to the majors this season and is currently batting .467 for Minnesota.
  9. Nice picture Seth! I will keep everyone posted on how we're doing in Elizabethton. Just glad that none of the boys were injured in the wreck while they were coming in from Fort Myers.
  10. That was a tough play-by-play game to watch on the computer. Jose is a wonderful kid and yes, his English is very good. I hope the Kernels have better luck tomorrow, several of "my kids" from past seasons are on the team.
  11. NOPE - that doesn't look like the Jose that I was trying to put weight on while he lived here last season. I believe Jose would be a little to shy to pose like that.
  12. Rosie is easy going, fun loving and an all around nice guy. BTW, he's also an excellent baseball player. Most people that don't know him would consider him quiet. But after 10 weeks in Elizabethton, he not only proved himself on the baseball field but made me proud to call him "mi hijo del béisbol". Good luck Eddie! See you next March!
  13. Will the Elizabethton Twins be a part of this? Our season doesn't start until June 20.
  14. Oswaldo - Play hard. You DESERVE this chance and make the most of it. I am so PROUD of you.
  15. I am glad that Cedar Rapids and Fort Myers are finally utilizing all of the great talent that we have sent them from Elizabethton.
  16. Good Luck Oswaldo! It was so good to see him during spring training. He will take advantage of every opportunity that presents itself.
  17. Pinto looked great in spring training. Looked like he had dropped a few pounds and of course always very focused on his job. I would love to see him make it in the majors. He is always welcome back to my home if he ever comes back to visit Elizabethton.
  18. Jose speaks English. He's a little shy and reserved about speaking English. He doesn't like making mistakes either on the mound or when he's using his second language.
  19. Hi AJ - you can get hit by pitches - but no more off of your face, OK? See you Sunday at the park - Donna
  20. I wish the best of luck to Jose and Eddie playing for Puerto Rico in the WBC.
  21. Saw the pics of Eddie - post surgery. It takes a special guy to get back out there and play again. He has a smooth, very fast swing. He is smart and polite and represents the organization well.
  22. Miguel is a wonderful young man. The first thing he asked me when he moved into my home in Elizabethton "Will I have enough to eat here?" Needless to say, he had enough to eat, learned quite a bit of English and we fine tuned some of the social skills he will need in the big leagues. He has a lot on his shoulders with a large family to support back home in the Dominican Republic. I can't wait to see him in spring training this year.
