  1. Rosterman, thanks for providing the stats on Doumit and Butera. That appears to indicate Mauer is our worst catcher and throwing out runners and the oppostion has picked up on this as there are more attempts against him if you normalize for the number of games caught. Someone can weigh in on if this is a large enough sample of data to make that assumption. Next we can look at catcher ERA's to see if there is a marked difference in calling games.
  2. Regarding the offense, I didn't think giving up on the season was the Twins Way. But after the last 2 seasons maybe it is the new Twins Way. Maybe something isn't right in the clubhouse or maybe it's just lack of talent.
  3. I wish Diamond had better aim and hit Hamilton in the ribs or legs. We can't even hit a guy correctly. Seriously, props to Diamond for being a good teammate. I think Oswalt deserved a 6 game suspension as well. Not sure how we could get back at Oswalt other than charging the mound or dragging a bunt down the first base line and accidentally running into him.
  4. Yes, i watched just in time to see us behind 6-0 and getting no hit. Switched to Diners, Drive-ins & Dives. Maybe we can beat the Red Sox to the punch and offer Mauer, Morneau, Blackburn & Nishi to the Dodgers for the same package.
  5. Plouffe's display of defense in the 8th inning was close to Little League quality. I read where Gardy was on him to be more ready to react when the ball was hit and he looked a little slow on the first 2 hit to him in the inning so that worries me. Granted they were rocket shots - not exactly dribblers but it looked like he could have done better on the 2nd one which he correctly got charged for an error on. The 3rd miscue was moving back on the grounder which resulted in a late throw to first base. 4th was fielding the grounder and then running late to the 3rd base bag before throwing to first where he did make that throw in time. It was getting painfully embarrasing to watch. Perhaps these are all correctable - I don't know if we have an infielder instructor - I know Plouffe has moved around to many positions but he needs to gain some confidence. In regards to the hit batsmen, Oswalt's control looked pretty good last night except for that pitch to Mauer. At 3-0 you usually look to groove one down the middle so I am pretty sure that was on purpose - why? who knows. The moral of the story with the current rules is make sure you are the first pitcher doing the hitting in the game. Interesting to see if Diamond gets suspended for this, if so it would seem Oswalt should also get the same suspension.
  6. Understandable move. Last night was the first time I watched Carson play and I thought he was OK. He had some good at bats and made a nice throw to get Soto out at third. Not a long term answer but servicable.
  7. Sad thing is this was the one game of the series they had a chance to win. Only going to get worse from here on out.
  8. Falling apart - can't hit, pitch or field - other than that good game. I am about to give up on Plouffe at third - he can't field.
  9. I appreciate the updates! Encouraging to see the overall system improve over the last couple of years. AAA manager seems to have been a really good hire.
  10. I guess to answer if I would be dissapointed - not really. I would prefer doing nothing to making a bad trade. We hope to use the pressure of the deadline to force a contending team to give up prize prospects that are "worth" more than we are dealing. If that doesn't happen we still have the offseason and next year. We will likely have to address our needs in Free Agency.
  11. Certainly you can't be angry that Mauer was named to the All-star game - he is one of the best catchers in the league - if not the best and I am talking both this half-year and over his career timeframe. Some of the frustration from fans probably comes from the fact that the perception is that he has not performed as well after he signed the $23M contract as he did before he signed it. I say perception because I have not broken down the numbers before and after. We know the HR's are down and the whole bi-lateral leg weakness episode last year had a negative impact on his image.
  12. Looks like we signed him => 2 years and $7M - not bad.
  13. If its about for the same amount of money per year and for 2 years that would be ok. I like him fine as off the bench and as a spot fill-in hitter. He is certainly worth as much as Nishioka. Haha!
  14. I would only send him down if the team wanted to bring Florimon up and see what he can do at the major league level. I really don't mind Dozier taking his lumps up here this year as the season is a lost cause anyway.
  15. What did we give up for him? One of our pitching coaches?
  16. Just another embarassing outing from the pitching staff. Not sure we even have a AAA caliber staff.
  17. Yes - these updates are great and much appreciated!
  18. I grew up in Maryland - live in Arlington Tx currently - so I follow and root for the Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles even though the Twins are my favorite team. Just went up earlier this month and went to a Nationals game with my dad - Nice ballpark and they have really good pitching and some exciting young players.
  19. Glad to see Cole promoted. We have nothing to lose, if he can beat an 8+ ERA he will be an improvement so the bar is set very low.
  20. As mnfireman pointed out Texas is interested in Oswalt. They went to Mississippi to watch him pitch last Friday and Oswalt has also expressed an interest in pitching for Texas. Nice thought but I doubt he would have any interest in joining this hot mess in Minnesota.
  21. Marquis performance got me to thinking about how great it is to be a baseball player. $3M this year guaranteed - probably more than I will make in my working lifetime - for stinking it up out there. I am not questioning his effort but how did the bottom fall out so quickly or better yet how did the Front Office miss on this. If I was the owner I would be getting pretty irritated over some of these money for nothing decisions on Nishi and Marquis. Add that to the fact of injuries to all the big salary players in the past few years Nathan, Morneau, Mauer and Baker and that has to be pretty frustrating.
  22. Glad to have Morneau back - this improves the chances of our offense outscoring what our pitching gives up. I don't have numbers to back this up but it seems that our offense went into a slump coinciding with his injury. At least it improves our hammer to slap hitter ratio and may keep Butera out of the line-up. Speaking of Butera - I haven't seen mention of it here but the wild pitch by Capps on Monday night should have been blocked by a good fielding catcher in my opinion.
  23. Love the Kestrel Falcon idea! What we also need to do is to plant the evergreens in the outfield to stop these home runs from flying out. It would also provide a nice home for the falcons while also helping cover our lack of outfield speed. Couple that with dropping a truckload of rocks in the infield thus increasing the number of bad-hop grounders and reducing our double-plays.
  24. lol! Brought back to mind the rumor that we were blowing the fans out in the Homerdome when we batted - we must be turning on the switch to blow the air/wind out when the visitors are up rather than when we are up at Target Field. Someone tell them to hurry up and get that straightened out.
  25. I thought Target Field was not a Home Run park?
