  1. It's going to be a difficult day for the main beatwriters on social media tomorrow if we stand pat.
  2. I understand that there are less relievers available than expected because of all the teams still in contention, but there's still no reason not to go and get something. The Twins have a plenty good chance to make a run at the series. There's no reason they need to roll over and let teams like the Yankees and Astros snatch up the few guys available. We have 7 or 8 guys that we're going to lose in the rule 5 draft in the offseason anyways. There's a taxi to AAA at the ballpark every night because of how often we're cycling relievers out, and meanwhile Falvey is citing Cody Allen as a reason to be optimistic. I wanted to believe things were going to be different, but this looks like the same old Twins.
  3. This is about the thought process I have. The nice thing is the bullpen has been doing well and just replacing a couple suspect pieces with a matchup lefty or an OK option would be an upgrade. Someone like Will Smith would be fantastic but even if we got like Jake Diekman and/or Sam Dyson rentals, we'd be looking good.
  4. It was a tough luck loss but at some point you have to start wondering if it's more than just luck. We just keep finding new ways to lose to these teams we should be taking care of business against. Today it was wild pitches, passed balls, another untimely error and yet another baserunning decision that made everybody watching ask "what the hell was that supposed to be?".
  5. It's pretty perplexing but he was similarly bad in the same situations last year, (granted pretty good the year before though). The thing about "early season Schoop" is that we were winning games by so much that those were the games where he's gotten a lot of his stats, when we already had the games put away. With the team struggling just a bit over the last month plus, he's really contributed nothing on offense and it's become more noticeable as we've struggled too. He's 0-8 with bases loaded which is absurd. You can see his approach fly out the window every time it matters.
  6. Owners that like to intervene usually tend to do so either in the way of limiting spending in the offseason or when a team is trying to offload a franchise cornerstone that puts people in the seats (see Manny Machado in Baltimore a few years ago). Dealing prospects is usually a spot where ownership will put full faith in the front office. I'd guess Falvey and Levine have full control.
  7. It's Rocco's job to see that not only did Odorizzi have absolutely nothing, but he was injured. I have no idea why he wanted to wait until we were absolutely buried to take him out but in my opinion this loss is on him. The offense did it's job and it wasn't enough because Rocco chose to save the bullpen (which turned out to be a couple pitches) with a few days until the break instead of bringing somebody else in who would have given us a better shot. We've gotta start winning games like these or the script is going to flip in July.
  8. Morin I absolutely agree with. Harper though I think can still be valuable. His last outing was bad but it was after throwing 2 straight days. He's a soft tosser who limits walks and homers and the strikeout rate isn't half bad either. He's a pretty good complementary piece who has little margin for error but can give hitters fits. He's a guy I'd like to stick around, but only if we pick up another guy or two that push the leverage in his appearances down.
  9. Mejía is a lefty and the Twins could certainly use another left hander in their bullpen. The issue with this is in his career he doesn't carry traditional lefty vs lefty splits. He's been pretty comparable vs righties and lefties. They could use another lefty, but Blake Parker has been tougher on lefties than him. I think he's in an unfortunate time in the Twins window opening where his chance to figure it out as a reliever was earlier this season, and he just couldn't do it. At best he looks like another mid-tier middle reliever with no plus pitches or skills that can be used in any kind of specialized role. At worst he can do some serious damage to the games he pitches in with his walks and homers as we saw earlier this year. I'm sure they'll give him another look soon just because hes gotten minor league hitters out, but I'd have to guess that he's one of the first out the door if the front office pulls off a trade.
  10. He's on a one year deal with a mutual option for 2020 and a $500,000 buyout. He can't be sent down but I doubt the Royals want to keep him for 5.75 million next year. They'll likely be willing to ship him out for pretty cheap.
  11. It seems like he's fallen out of favor in Cincinnati. Maybe it'd be a Tommy Pham Cardinals situation where we could get him for cheap. My concern is I think I read a few weeks ago that he raised a huge stink because he only wanted to pitch in 3 out save situations. I don't think that mentality would fit into our bullpen too well considering Rocco loves to mix and match. I wouldn't give up anything significant for him.
  12. This move is based a lot on the price in terms of whether I'd be excited or not. MadBum's name seems to outvalue his recent performance. There aren't many numbers out there that suggest that he's better than Kyle Gibson in 2019, and I don't think that we would be willing to sell the farm for a few months of another Kyle Gibson. That being said, I think the front office is smart enough to turn down a deal and let somebody else pony up if SF's asking price is too high. If we do make this trade, I think the odds are very high that we also end up with Will Smith, Tony Watson, or Sam Dyson as well. It'll be interesting to see the players included if we can pull something off.
  13. If we sent a package that got us him and Will Smith, we would probably be good to go in terms of bullpen acquisitions.
