  1. I always thought he had to be moved to first base. He was just a bit too slow to react at 3rd and his range was more like a stove. The good thing is that he is that by playing third, he is used to all kinds of bad hops and that should make a transition to 1st easier and hopefully, he can snag some of those errant throws late in games (these seemed to have dogged the Twins over the past couple of years). Great article!
  2. Frankly, I don't like this rule as it affects baseball strategy at the core. I was really surprised it won the day; I assumed that the pitch timer would be instilled, which is something I think anyone could live with. I hope there are mega-complaints about the rule following this season...
  3. The Twins are going to need a bigger nap room soon.
  4. From my point-of-view, I am very happy to have Mr. Front-field (meaning of his Chinese characters) as they will most certainly televise some of his games here, and if we ever get a Tanaka (Mr. Field-middle) vs. Maeda match-up, it will be the game of the year here.
  5. Deborah Koons is still getting Dead money ;-)
  6. Sano has been named team captain! https://www.japantimes.co.jp/sports/2020/01/25/baseball/japanese-baseball/baystars-unveil-keita-sano-teams-new-captain/#.XlcrkigzYdU OK...sorry about that. I'm just in a strange mood today.
  7. Even pointing to a team being the 'best' is a subjective notion at best (see what I did there). The best team lifts the trophy in October, but it doesn't mean they were necessarily the best at everything or even the most things. I thought that the Astros were the superior team when compared to the Nats on so many levels, but the Astros didn't lift the trophy.
  8. I also loved the read. I'd say your theory has much merit. If he can get confidence throwing the change in any count and situation as well as keeping his fastball around 94-95, it could be shades of Johan.
  9. This is also my opinion. I think Graterol will be a very good pitcher; however, we have a chance to win now, but not without some starting pitching. I know many think we can weather the storm until we get Pineda up and running, but we could be 5 or 6 games adrift by that point.
  10. Well I guess that Nelson Cruz didn't make any errors, so it makes sense that he would get a gold glove. Just a little lighthearted joking...it really is a very nice article.
  11. Even with a weaker bat, I like the idea of Gordon on the roster. His defense is something we should cherish up the middle.
  12. Maybe, but the latter can become the former...
  13. See Jacob Ellsbury for further reference. 2019: $21.14 million 2020: $21.14 million 2021: $21 million club option ($5 million buyout)
  14. His delivery looks great already. The skies the limit!
  15. Well, I should say thank you for this video. He is really clear why this is cheating and how using our own intuition to steal signs is much different. I still wonder exactly what the rule book said, however. Here is an explanation, but all of this arises after the facts, so it's in some ways bogus. I am not saying what the Astros did was justifiable, but they could claim that the rules were not clear enough on what constituted stealing...although some of them felt enough guilt to do a mea culpa. (There are a few articles here and although the video provided is pretty convincing that the rules are clearcut, several of these articles seem to say that the rules were not very clear at all.) https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2821237-mlb-reportedly-adding-rules-for-cameras-video-to-restrict-sign-stealing https://thebaseballcodes.com/category/sign-stealing/
  16. I guess last year they were the "tin" standard, but let's hope they have it right this year.
  17. Ahhh! This is the prospect I wanted to read about the most. He has dynamic stuff. I really hope they keep him as a starter at least until he indicates some limits on durability. He seems to have great movement on his pitches. I do hope his delivery becomes a bit smoother over time.
  18. Nice write-up. Let's hope we can keep the core of this group healthy enough to get to the finish line in good shape.
  19. Everyone's remorseful once it's headline news. I hold nothing against Marwin at all. I just think it's easy to say one is remorseful after the fact. Maybe he felt compelled to say something for his teammates' sake? My question has always been the same. What constitutes stealing signs? If I'm a coach and I figure out that cross arms twice then touch nose means "bunt," and I signal the 3rd baseman to move in, will I be in trouble? I doubt it. I am wondering how "stealing" is actually defined. How are the lines drawn? I have a feeling that it is quite subjective.
  20. Agreed. One cannot predict September of 2020 let alone tomorrow. The Twins took action and landed who they could. Everyone has been clamoring for a starter and the FO tried to get one. They got one! It's not Wheeler, but as the Rolling Stones say, "You can't always get what you want..."
