  1. I would love to package Morneau and Span to the Rangers maybe with Hendricks or Hermson for Derek Holland and a low level pospect or two. Then take the Morneau money for a free agent pitcher.
  2. That's better - I knew you guys could make nice.
  3. Okay boys. Enough of the fighting. Back to topic.
  4. So the major league clock wouldn't start on their careers
  5. Pavano and Baker are activated from 60-day DL, so at this moment, there are 6 open spots on the 40-man.
  6. Was redmond ever actually in our organization as a coach or was it all rumors? Never in Twins org as coach. Has been in Blue Jays system as minor league manager. I believe currently at Single A+ Dunedin.
  7. On his 25th Birthday, Kyle Gibson wins. 3 IP; 2 BB; 3 K; 3 H; 0 R. His ERA now stands at 0.69. It's certainly encouraging. Not as good as previous 2 games, but at least no runs.
  8. I'll throw one more log on the fire - Hisahi Iwakuma (31) & 1.9 WAR. Twins went after him hard when there was a posting fee and lost out to the A's. He played out his time in Japan, became a free-agent, signed a 1-year deal with the Mariners ($1.5M) and was 9-5; 1.28 WHIP; 3.16 ERA. Started the year in the pen and ended in the rotation - 16 games started and 125.1 Innings. Now that there's no posting fee and he had decent stats, why wouldn't the Twins go after him? Low on radar, decent on potential.
  9. The big question is - does Plouffe give up #24 to Bruno?
  10. I believe it's spelled 'lojik'
  11. Thrylos just wanted to get his point across in this post that he doesn't like ownership, doesn't like the GM, doesn't like the manager, just like he does in every other post. I believe he thinks we just don't get his dislike of the current regime. Thry - we get it. It's why you are approaching 1900 posts. Clearly there's nothing you like about the Twins, so why not just transfer your loyalties to the Phillies? My point was that the Twins need a major upgrade at MI because Florimon, et al are clearly not the answer. Pseudo, you are correct, I believe we could get him cheaply because he is percieved as a cancer. $5-6M per season is about right for a decent (not great) SS, it's not far from what we should be paying JJ Hardy. Be that as it may, I do think that Escobar could be a disruptive force in the clubhouse. I also don't think that that should be an automatic disqualifier, if he can help this club back to respectability. He's only 29. I believe that the trade route will ultimately give us the answer at SS. This might be one avenue, but there might be other options out there if we use our organizational strength of outfield depth. Unfortunately, good outfielders are a dime a dozen and will be available on the open market.
  12. With Mike Aviles going to the Blue Jays as part of the Ferrell deal, it probably makes Escobar available. (Although first indications are for Aviles to play 2B or UT.) Knowing his history, is Escobar enough of an upgrade for the Twins to inquire?
  13. Can anyone understand this post????
  14. Maybe it's time for you to choose another team
  15. I never did understand the thinking of no deferred money on Mauer's contract. It certainly would be helpful to have more money available for payroll in the present. Webster would probably fit into the rotation immediately for the Twins. It might be nice for the Twins to include a mid-level prospect (possibly an outfielder if Elsbury is traded) so we could get a couple more players such as catcher Blake Swihart (a top 10 catching prospect who would be blocked by Mauer), and maybe one of their middle infield prospects (they have a bunch) or pitcher Brandon Workman, who also might be ready soon at age 24.
  16. This. I don't personally boo Jeter, but only because I refuse to go to a Yankee game. I would boo EVERY yankee, not just Jeter. But he OWNS the Twins, I think we've retired him about twice in his career. Maybe its his smirk that irritates me. I'm so glad that the Tigers are up 2-0. The Yankees have missed the playoffs just once since the ALDS came into existance. Oh for the good old days of just the ALCS. My favorite period in Yankee history was from 1965 to 1976, when they sucked.
  17. Texas has a boatload of starting pitching and beyond has Colby Lewis and Neftali Feliz a little behind Gibson and Baker in rehabbing from TJ. I would offer a package of Span/Revere, Morneau/Parmelee and Henricks/Hermson for Holland and a lower level, higher upside pitching prospect to add one starter (it might not be enough). I would add two more pitchers from free agency. It's unlikely that we'll be able to get any of the higher profile pitchers, however some under-the-radar guys might be attainable. I'd look at Iwakuma (from Seattle), Hernandez (former Carmona from Cleveland) and Villanueva (from Toronto) and see if I could get two. We won't have the full picture until the non-tenders are known, because TR will comb those to add inexpensive depth to the organization. I would got after Jeff Keppinger (and probably start him at 2B), and Eric Chavez for the bench or platoon with Plouffe. There is still a major hole at short, but even with Florimon/Dozier at short, this could be a contending team as soon as next year - not a WS contender, but certainly a division contender.
  18. Beckmt - just a quick tidbit - Jackson did leave Boras this season which makes it possible for the Twins. However, my gut tells me that we haven't seen the free agent options that Ryan will go for. He will wait for the non-tenders and go after one or two there. Ryan's strength is finding guys on the scrap heap and picking up a bunch of them hoping they will stick. Good examples this year were Burton, Fien, Mastroiani, and Floriman. The bad options included Maloney, Gray, Thomas, Kumatsu and Marquis. Look for a bunch of minor league free agent signings - that's Ryan's MO.
  19. I want to also thank everyone. Absolutely love this site and get on as much as possible. I particularly love the minor league stuff - thanks to Seth and others who keep us in touch with the future of the franchise!
  20. Personally, I think that having Molitor on the coaching staff would make Gardy uneasy - like having a manager-in-waiting sitting next to you everyday. Tom Brunansky has been talked about as the replacement for hitting coach. My preference would be to make Bruno the new manager at Rochester. Make Glynn your 3B or bench coach and bring Rudy Hernandez up from New Britain as your new hitting coach. That would give the Twins the Hispanic presence which Ryan has said he is looking for. It would also prepare Bruno to be a manager-in-waiting (similar to what Calvin Griffith did in '68 with Billy Martin - giving him a year in Denver before making him manager in '69). Actually I'd love to have Guillen come in as bench coach if (or when) he's fired in Miami, but that's not gonna happen for the same reason as Molitor not getting the job as bench coach. Also - where is Tommy Watkins these days? Might he be a 1B coach option?
  21. I believe you are incorrect - check the Twins web site. Major league coaches are Gardy and Anderson. Ullger and Vavra are listed as Minor league OF Coordinator and IF Coordinator, not as major league coaches. I think we are getting new bodies in the BP, 1B Coach, 3B Coach, Bench, and Hitting. Six coaches and a manager is the limit until September, just like a 25 man limit on the roster until September. Other duties will be assigned (i.e. OF / IF coaching).
  22. I'd love to see Molly replace Ullger as bench coach
  23. Yaz actually won in '67 - .326, 44 HR (tied with Killer), 121 RBI. That was the year after Frank Robinson - .316, 49 HR, 122 RBI's. 1969 was Killebrew's MVP season .276, 49 HR, 140 RBI's. The amazing thing to me is that when Ted Williams won his 2nd triple crown in 1947, he came in 2nd place for MVP to Dimaggio, even though his numbers far eclipsed Dimaggio's.
  24. Remember Guerra - the last of the Santana trade is out of options next year.
