  1. I get that you don't like him as the closer because you're afraid the wheels are going to fall off. Valid. You can't however say he is ineffective. At a certain point you have to go with what gets results. However he's doing it, Rodney over his career has produced good results. It's not like there were any Craig Kimbrels on the market. As for the 100% comment that's just ridiculous. Saving 100% of the opportunities is the exact opposite of awful. All that matters at the end of the day is adding that W to the record.
  2. How about an 87% save rate? Because that's exactly what Rodney had last season. In 2016, Rodney had an 89%. Mariano Rivera for his career was at 89%. (Fun little aside, Joe Nathan had a better save percentage than Mariano Rivera. Admittedly, over fewer opportunites. Rivera over his career: 89.071%. Joe over his: 89.125%)
  3. So in other words yes, you can win a gold glove with league average defence. Rosie gets to league average and roll the dice. Personally I think he's better than -1.6. Last year was a weird year defensively for him.
  4. Did you see Alex Gordon play left last year? Apparently average defense can get you a gold glove. In other words, LET'S GO ROSIE!!!!!!!
  5. They're right up there with Howard, Fine & Howard when it comes to personal injury
  6. Hey, Gimenez was far and away our best mop up duty pitcher last year. Don't know how we're going to replace him.
  7. Is it too much to hope for a Minnesota sweep of the Gold Glove Awards for the outfield?
  8. Who doesn't love a guy finally making good after years of busting his tail. He's looked legitimately good this spring and honestly it hasn't even been that small of a sample size.
  9. We're just going to have to agree to disagree. They even discussed how the twins could make a deal with Miami to keep Kinley less than an hour ago on the game broadcast
  10. I'm getting this directly from MLB.com and it definitely seems to be worded to where if the Twins wanted Kinley and didn't want to expose him to waivers, they could go to Miami and make a straight up trade for him. If I'm wrong I'll accept that but I'm swear I'm not just pulling this concept of a straight up deal out of thin air. http://m.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/rule-5-draft There seems to be a definite delineation between sending him down after only paying the initial 50K, and sending him down after providing further compensation to his original team. If this is wrong then the MLB has got bigger problems besides pace of play. Their official website can't even explain the rules properly.
  11. Not every club will make a selection, but those that do pick a player must pay $100,000 to the club from which said player was selected. Rule 5 Draft picks are assigned directly to the drafting club's 25-man roster and must be placed on outright waivers in order to be removed from the 25-man roster in the subsequent season. Should the player clear waivers, he must be offered back to his previous team for $50,000 and can be outrighted to the Minors only if his original club does not wish to reacquire him. A Rule 5 Draft pick can be placed on the Major League disabled list, but he must be active for a minimum of 90 days to avoid being subject to the aforementioned roster restrictions in the next campaign. Clubs may trade a player selected in the Rule 5 Draft, but the same restrictions apply to the player's new organization. However, a club may also work out a trade with the Rule 5 pick's original club to acquire his full rights, thereby allowing him to be optioned to the Minors under traditional circumstances. If I'm reading this right, we would only have to put him on waivers if we tried to keep him without working out a trade. If we straight up worked a deal with Miami we would be able to send him down at will. Obviously I could be reading this incorrectly.
  12. I was responding to just this particular post and not any you may have made before. I'm merely offering what I see as an equally important factor in this equation. My apologies if it seemed I was saying you were wrong. What I'm trying to convey is that this isn't a one-way street if we're apportioning blame for the economics that have made this situation possible. It's morally repugnant that the owners are trying to pass a law that would allow them to save money off of some of the worse paid guys in the sport. This is also an indictment of the Players Union who didn't protect the players who needed it most, the minor leaguers. That is purely what I was trying to get across. I probably just didn't explain it very well.
  13. For us to complete a trade to keep him? Or to send him down once he's a member of the Twins organization?
  14. I never claimed that it would fix it. I was responding with a hypothetical solution to your statement on how owners were being "reprehensible". The major leaguers are attempting to maximize their profits, just as the owners are. Personally, I agree that this tax exemption and their reasoning for it is deplorable considering the profits that are made. However, I also find it deplorable that the big leaguers (the one's with all the bargaining power in the CBA) didn't account for their minor league brethren in the last negotiating period. It's not like the lack of pay to the vast majority of minor league players is a new thing. If they would've included the minor league guys in the last CBA, we wouldn't even be having this discussion about fishy politics. If I've gone off topic I apologize but I do feel this is all interconnected.
  15. You are absolutely correct. MLB players are not doing that. What they are also not doing is making sure that they're minor league brothers are covered by the CBA. I personally think that the owners lobbying for tax exemptions is morally reprehensible considering the amount of money that is made off of these guys. However, saying that the current deplorable situation of minor league pay is completely on the owners is incorrect.
  16. Why?! Now you've planted a seed of hope in my soul that I guarantee won't go away.
  17. It's also reprehensible that established major leaguers (who started in the minors just like these guys) are not signing deals because they're being offered 120mil instead of the 130mil they want. That 10mil from one contract could give a significant raise to every minor leaguer on every team. The greed factor cuts both ways.
  18. I think they'll just trade for him so they can move him down. Let's be honest here, he came from Miami and they're just in it to lose. Toss $100,000 and bucket of gum at them. They'll accept and even send a thank you note for the gum.
  19. It always seemed to me that while he could handle the fastballs, offspeed and breaking pitches just tied him up in knots. I really had high hopes for him with the Twins and I still believe going after him was a good investment opportunity for the team. I wish him well back in Korea. (I'm still in love with his first big league home run in Kansas City. Absolute moon shot into the 3rd deck in left.)
  20. Yeah if he has a great year his market resets AND he won't have a draft pick associated with his signing. I don't understand why Cobb got a legitimately good contract a week before the season starts.
  21. "A left-handed swinger whose 1.000 OPS against righties" Sweet bambino, what was the sample size on that OPS? o_0
  22. If saving over 300 games in a career is "just getting by", then I know a boatload of mediocre pitchers that would love to sign up for that.
  23. Maybe Buck just isn't eating enough of those Sheboygan sausages he's always talking about
