  1. Huh, just checked out Uni-watch and I like the idea of the website-dedicated to "athletic aesthetics". I should post something there about the Twins ugly blue jerseys. They should be banned in my opinion (grey, white, or cream only please).
  2. The Twins thought they had the makings of a good young rotation (and so did I) with: Baker, Slowey, Blackburn, Perkins, and Liriano. To me this is the biggest culprit. When they let Santana (which now looks like a good move) and traded Garza, they thought they were flush with good young starters.
  3. Marquis? Might as well send him out there a few more times. He is kind of like Pavano and Blackburn right now. I'd love to see Gladden and Morris join the coaching staff. Those guys would add some fire.
  4. Well said. I think fans here are just kind of shocked and depressed and unfortunately Joe's taking the brunt of it.
  5. This is the only addition that Ryan made in the offseason that isn't working out well. I guess you send him out there a few more times, but it's pretty rough.
  6. Do you think the Angels should fire Mike Scioscia because of the bad start they are having and the off year they had last year? Gardy and Scioscia are both proven decent managers. Sometimes multiple players get in slumps, injuries occur, and proscpects don't live up to our expectations.
  7. I cannot even handle reading the comments on the strib anymore. Last year was pretty bad this year is terrible. The problem is not Gardy, but lack of starting pitching and lately no offense. Look at Anaheim and how they are struggling, and they have a better lineup and a much better rotation. Gardy and Ryan are doing the right thing with Liriano and Valencia. When Liriano was in the rotation, I felt confident that we would lose every game he started.
  8. After 3 innings last night (where he pitches very well), I have to wonder if Duensing is being groomed for a rotation spot.
  9. John, who's the everyday 3b now? Or is it a mixture of Casilla, Plouffe, and Carrol?
  10. Did you guys catch Valencia's quote where he said his defense has been great, just his hitting has been lacking?
  11. Diamond's pitching was really fun to watch last night. It shows that you don't have hit hit the mid to upper 90's with a fastball to shutdown another team. He was on the corners most of the night and had solid defense (Dozier had a lot of action) behind him.
  12. I was not expecting this either. This latest hitting slump is really tough to watch. I think Ryan did a decent job in the offseason by bringing in Carrol, Willingham, and Doumit. Right now though, the only guy in the lineup with the potential to go deep is Willingham. In retrospect, knowing that Morneau was iffy at best to bounce back, they should have tried to resign Kubel to keep another pro hitter in the lineup. The lack of starting pitching remains the largest concern though. It's going to take some great moves/trades to reload.
  13. A nice positive nugget. I wonder how Casilla's defense would rank?
  14. Thank for stating that so clearly Seth. This move makes sense and will allow Doumit, Mauer, and Parmalee to play with Butera as insurance. As much as I wanted to think that Morneau was back, I just don't see him getting there. Stinks.
  15. Didn't Blackburn have two or three good starts before having the clunker against Boston? Like it or not, Pavano, Blackburn, Marquis are our "big three" and we need them to eat innings and give us a chance to win. I think Hendricks will be all right. I think tonight could be Liriano's last start as a Twin as well as Pujols first HR as an Angel.
  16. With Mauer out of the lineup, it feels eerily like last season. He is key.
  17. When Alexi has his head on straight, he is fun to watch. Good range and good at bats.
  18. Way to keep it positive! I like it. I really wish that we could have managed to win one more on that road trip, one from Boston, and Friday night's game. But to keep it positive, the bullpen has been better, the infield defense has been much better, and our bats are coming around.
  19. Yeah he's so dry that I didn't think I would enjoy him, but he understands the game so well. Plus you got to respect a guy that endured so many bad years after some really good ones. He left Gardenhire with a young, talented, and well prepared group.
  20. I say yes. I have no doubt that he would be a good glove over there. It would get Parmalee more at bats and address another weakness. Have Mauer start taking some ground balls there in practice and if Valencia doesn't get his head on right soon, Mauer starts to alternate catcher/3b with eventually 3b becoming his position.
  21. I agree 100% Gernzy. No need to press the panic button. That was last year. This year is about making improvements and find out who can play. The offseason additions are looking good. Liriano has been a disaster every 5th day. Time to address that and if Valencia continues to struggle with quality ab's he might soon start to see less playing time.
  22. What about working Mauer into 3b? We have some guys taking good at bats now (Doumit, Parmalee, M & M, Hammer, Carrol), but if Valencia doesn't start to get his head on right, moving Mauer to 3b/catcher will free up at bats for Parmalee by way of allowing others to play first base more.
  23. To the pen until/if he gets his confidence back.
  24. Agreed that trades can wait. We do need starting pitching help and Span could be one chip we could use, but not until Benson is ready.
  25. Because of Parmalee's lack of speed, I would rather see Clete/Plouffe out in RF until Benson is ready. Revere's lack of power and lack of arm will sink him until he shows at AAA that he can increase his OBP.
