  1. I'm not against the idea of Sano getting games at third base but I'm hesitant to jerk him around the diamond if Plouffe isn't out for more than two weeks. And the initial reports suggest it's unlikely Plouffe is going to be out for long. They're not even going to DL him for a day or two.
  2. In a word, nope. The Twins were insanely unlucky at exactly the wrong moments for nine consecutive games. Then they were just kinda... meh... in those moments for three games. Thanks to solid pitching, they still managed to win all three of those games. The only thing that changed was the absurd situational hitting split, which was bound to change because there was no reason for it to exist in the first place, at least not to the staggering degree we saw for nine (!) games. This is still a mediocre team with solid upside around the roster. Only time will tell whether that upside manifests, nine game losing streak be damned.
  3. Oh, sure, I don't disagree with you there... But, like I said, it's not as if the Twins are benching a vastly superior bat to play Nunez. May as well let the hot hand ride because there's not a lot to lose either way. And Nunez had a pretty nice 2015... There's an outside chance he's simply turning into a better player.
  4. Eh, guys often stop taking walks when they're raking the ball. Even vintage Mauer occasionally saw his isoD drop to sub-.050 levels when he really got rolling. See ball, hit ball. Will Nunez's hot streak continue? Maybe, maybe not. That's what tends to happen with hot streaks... They turn off at any time and without notice. But if a guy is raking, you let him keep raking until he cools off for a few games, particularly when there's nobody else great to play in his place. And Nunez has certainly earned a longer look over the past week.
  5. It's definitely SSS but Joe didn't really have solid, consistent performance last year... He had three *really* nice games in late April last season but other than that, he was treading water around what ended up being his season mark. He was also striking out a lot more often than he has this season. He ended April with 14 Ks, or about .67 per game. This season, he's striking out about .33 times per game. The BABIP is about the same as it was in April of 2015 but Joe is walking more and striking out a lot less. That's a good indication this performance trend can continue and isn't entirely luck-based (though that BABIP is certainly due to regress a bit).
  6. Yeah, maybe he's not quite as redundant as some claimed a few days ago. Nunez has a moderately high floor and can provide injury stability to a bench that badly needed stability... Well, here we are, 15 days into the season and the team already needs that injury stability because two guys have gone down in the past week. I feel like a broken record but I'll say it again: the baseball season is really, really long, folks.
  7. Oh, you writers weren't down on him - you've been through too many rodeos to judge a player before they're 20 years old - but there were plenty of people on the forum getting down on Nick for his .700 OPS seasons.
  8. I'm positive he has worn the glasses at least once this season and pretty sure he has worn them more than once.
  9. Sure, and if Plouffe is going to be out for a month it's not a bad idea to see what you have in Polanco... But it appears this will be a few days at most which isn't enough time to get a read on Polanco no matter how often he plays. The team needs wins and they need them right now. They're also going against the Brewers for a home/away split series. I'm riding the hot hand until it's no longer hot. Walk out of this Brewers series with three out of four and this team has jumped back into the mix with a 6-10 record.
  10. I'd like to see what Polanco has in him but I'm sure as **** not going to bump Nunez out of the lineup for him on April 18th, 2016. Or Escobar, for that matter. Polanco will get his shot but right now, I'd ride the hot hands who have shown they can hit MLB pitching. (to be clear, I'd probably call up Polanco but I'm not sure I'd play him until Escobar or Nunez stop hitting for a few games)
  11. I don't expect him to be an elite bat in the long-term but anything he can post over .750-.770 in MiLB is a bonus to me. The guy doesn't seem to have an elite tool in his arsenal but is average to above average in all tools. Combine those things in a MLB SS and you have a borderline elite player. He won't dazzle you in any facet of the game, he'll simply be "pretty good" at everything. In the majors, that translates to a 4 WAR shortstop. People have been unfairly down on Gordon. He was a scrawny kid and suddenly, he's not so scrawny anymore... Shocking how that tends to happen to male athletes as they cross the 20 year mark.
  12. We haven't seen a Joe Mauer with these peripherals since... 2010, maybe? It's promising, to say the least. Joe's K rate is down to 7.5% and his BB rate is up to 15.1%. He hasn't had a season with more walks than strikeouts since his 90/88 split in 2012 and hasn't dominated the strike zone since his 65/53 split in 2010.
  13. I was down with giving Tonkin one more shot to see what he has in him. Fien, not so much. You can put one of those guys in a pen to start the season but not two of them.
  14. Dozier is a fringe case. He's not fast but he's smart... Hard to say what I would have done with him in that situation. He's also not slow. He's just kinda... Medium speed, I guess.
  15. Yep. As critical as I've been in recent games, I thought today's moves (mostly) made sense.
  16. First name Trevor, bats right handed, plays third base. 29 years old.
  17. It'd be nice to see Kepler get some playing time but it's also nice to see Arcia start mashing. I suspect Rosario's leash is tightening so there's a good chance we see more Kepler in the near future.
  18. 3 game winning streak and next up, the Brewers for four games. Maybe this season isn't sunk in mid-April.
  19. I didn't count but he was pulled in the eighth inning several times last season. Again, this is not uncommon when the team needs a single run to tie or win.
  20. Miguel Cabrera was pulled from the game 21 times last season. Some of those were surely defensive replacement but many were surely pinch-running situations. So yeah, you just never noticed before. This kind of thing is common for even the best hitters when the team needs one run late in a game.
  21. He's 270 lbs and very athletic. That doesn't mean he's fast. He's still 270 lbs. I think Sano is speedier than Plouffe or Mauer but he's probably on par with a guy like Dozier... And they're both way slower than Buxton. In that situation, pinch-running was the right decision if the following got on base: a catcher, Mauer, Plouffe, Sano, Park, Arcia, Dozier. The increase in speed probably wasn't worth it if one of the faster guys was on base: Escobar, Rosario, Kepler, Nunez.
  22. Yeah, I'm results oriented... That's why I agreed with the move the *moment* it was made. No outs, you need one run. It makes all the sense in the world to pinch-run one of the fastest guys in all of baseball in that situation. Hell, that's why pinch runners exist at all.
