  1. Let me put this a different way with way bigger numbers. They say something like two out of three assaults go unreported. Numbers vary but whatever, the numbers are so large they don’t really matter for this example. So for every 100,000 assaults, there are 200,000 unreported assaults. That means for every 300,000 assaults, 6,000 are false accusations. A large reason why women are reluctant to come out and talk about their experiences is because of what we’re seeing in this thread (which pales in comparison to the crap I’ve seen in other places over the past two days). Dissecting every word of their statements, challenging their personal history, implying they misunderstood the situation and/or intent, literally focusing on everything BUT the potential crime under consideration. So I ask you this: Why are you worried so much about your 6,000 fathers, brothers, and sons but giving so little thought or consideration to your 294,000 mothers, daughters, and sisters?
  2. 1. 6% is not a lot. It's just a bit more than one out of twenty. No one thinks one out of twenty is a lot of anything. Add in all the unreported assaults we're up to, what, about 1 out of 80 assaults are falsely accused? That's an insanely low number. 2. See, the problem here is that these things should be considered sexual assault. Just because young men have gotten away with stupid things in the past (myself included) doesn't justify continued bad behavior.
  3. You misunderstood the context of the conversation. I have no idea what the police would have done had Betsy gone to them with the accusation. But we were talking about Nick Nelson not going to the police, even though he wasn't there and it was well after the fact (by over a year, if I'm understanding the timeline correctly). The police would do nothing if Nick spoke up, which was the point I made.
  4. Okay, so we're going to try this again, everyone. Be on your best behavior, as everyone (ownership and moderators) will be watching this thread closely.

  6. Wow, I disagree. Once TFA entered the Starkiller phase, I felt as if I could predict the film almost scene for scene. Whereas the last hour of TLJ was a whirlwind of “WTF IS HAPPENING” moments. The film may have had flaws but predictable it was not. The entire attitude of Luke was completely out of left field.
  7. It kind of does, actually... There was a movement to have victims of sexual assault yell "Fire!" so people would actually come help them.
  8. Betsy herself has said the Twins had no knowledge of the situation.
  9. When the information is secondhand in nature and really irrelevant to the story at hand, it most certainly can and should be brushed aside. Twins Daily's access (or lack thereof) barely even qualifies as a footnote in a story about sexual assault.
  10. And what exactly was Nick supposed to do about it? You realize that the police would do nothing about it, right? It didn't happen to Nick. He wasn't there. Nevermind that it's not Nick's place to go around reporting things he was told in confidence.
  11. Exactly. One can believe Betsy's statement without wanting to hang Sano in the town square. I believe Betsy. I do not know what the punishment to Sano should be, nor is it my place to make that judgment. I'll let the investigators figure that one out.
  12. I'm not saying that wouldn't be a crappy move - it would be - but COME ON, MAN. Which is the greater crime here? 1. Sexual assault 2. Trading a player who may have committed sexual assault And, yes, forcing yourself on a woman and kissing her against her will is sexual assault. It's not "hang the bastard by his testicles sexual assault" but it falls on the spectrum of "sexual assault".
  13. wut seriously wut So you'd have more of a problem with the front office dishing off a (in this theoretical situation, problematic) player than a player who committed sexual assault?
  14. Sorry, but nope. I’m not going to stand back and allow someone to use what was a secondhand information mistake (and irrelevant to the conversation at hand) to invalidate a firsthand personal experience.
  15. You should probably know that a large portion of this board has met Betsy, probably more times than they can count. There's no reason to doubt her statement. And we wonder why women are so reluctant to even talk about this stuff.
  16. Okay, back the **** up right now and stop using this as defense of your argument. Betsy is not privy to Twins Daily's private dealings with the Twins organization. What she typed was a simple mistake, gleaned from information she received secondhand from god knows where. It has NOTHING to do with the veracity of her PERSONAL EXPERIENCES.
  17. Or much less than that. Video consumes massive amounts of space. Companies I've worked with in the past often saved only ~30 days of recordings. I can't recall one that went over 90 days.
  18. No. This is a situation where your personal decency would be leveraged by another team for their advantage. Cut Sano and he's picked up 20 seconds later. If you feel you must move on from him, trade him to another team who wants him and his baggage.
  19. We’ve had a working relationship with Betsy for several years.
  20. Wait, so you found the nostalgia of The Last Jedi distracting but not in The Force Awakens, where the nostalgia was seeping from every pore of the film for the final hour?
  21. Actually, Mike, I mostly agree with you. I'm not as down on the Poe story as you are, though, I thought it was a logical direction to take a character who was a hotshot pilot and now needs to play a leadership role in the new Rebellion. I agree fully on the Finn story. There was a spark in Episode VII that he lacked in VIII. His story was far and away the weakest of the film. Which is too bad, because the subject matter of his trip to Canto Bight was probably the most important theme of the film. It just failed to deliver as powerfully as the Rey/Luke/Kylo story, which was a bit more by the book for a Star Wars film (but masterfully executed).
  22. Eh, maybe I overshot the mark. But it's going to take a lot to get him away from the Rays, at least one top 50 prospect, another top 100 prospect, and then one or two decent prospects on top.
  23. No, that is not enough. My thinking is that it would require something like this: Lewis, Rosario/Kepler, Gonsalves, and maybe a decent toss-in like Thorpe.
  24. Yeah, if you're going to make a trade, go big. I'd prefer free agency but if a trade is to be made, I'd want it to be a blockbuster.
  25. Or maybe they're smart enough to not sign anyone for more than one year. I'm not really sure why you think longer contracts to relievers are a good idea. Now, I get the underwhelming response to Rodney's talent level (but still, he's a significant step up from most/all the relievers signed by Ryan) but the length of contract isn't a negative, it's a positive. It's also possible they just signed one guy and we have no idea what they plan to do in January. Almost any time you can sign a pitcher to a shorter deal, you do it. Would you rather have Darvish on a one year deal or a four year deal? I'd take the one year deal. Hell, I'd probably take Darvish for one year over three years.
