  1. I don’t really see the point. The Twins already leapfrogged several guys to call up Romero. Next on the list is surely Gonsalves. And then we have the return of Santana and May. There’s simply no room for Hughes in the organization.
  2. I’m not saying the Twins should or should not promote Wade but are ZiPS/Steamer projections even remotely accurate for MiLB players? From what I’ve seen over the years, they’re rarely even close (but it’s not as if I diligently check the things).
  3. It wouldn’t have killed you to stop and check on the guy you just slapped in the head with your glove, Brian.
  4. Oh, cool, I flipped on the game just in time to see the clown car roll onto the field.
  5. ****, I just realized a few minutes ago that I've been missing Romero's first start. His line looks good but how have his pitches looked?
  6. Yeah, I don't get that. Starting some of those guys in Chattanooga to avoid weather issues in April was a savvy move. Keeping those guys in Chattanooga as the calendar flips to May is not.
  7. Something we've seen with alarming frequency this season (mainly the past two weeks).
  8. I agree, to an extent. The obvious long term plan here is Gordon. If the front office is confident Sano will be back, one week of Petit is no big deal. If a longer term solution is needed, Gordon should be ready to take that role.
  9. And this is why you toss a few million to a guy like Gibson in arbitration. It may not pan out but if it does, you look damned smart.
  10. I think the takeaway here is that the team is confident Sano will be back in a week. I don’t like the idea of Petit being on this team but if you’re looking for a scrub to throw away in a week, whatever. He’s as good as the next guy.
  11. We all called Gibson being the best starter the first month of the season, right?
  12. The Dozier comment was a joke. And ugh to Petit.
  13. Who laces up the clown shoes tonight? I say Dozier.
  14. He single-handedly lost a couple of strikes for his pitchers last night. He was stabbing at the ball far too often. And coupled with his defensive gaffes, I'm not sure what to think about Lynn's line. It wasn't good but Lance should have been either out of an inning or pitching through a much better situation had Garver not had an epically bad baseball game last night.
  15. I can shrug off bad pitching for a month. It happens. I can shrug off bad hitting for a month. It happens. Entire pitching staffs and lineups sometimes flounder at the same time. I can accept those things and not get too worked up about it. I've watched a lot of baseball over the years and sometimes, the stars align in a positive way. Other times, they align in the worst way possible. So I'll just ride out this bad stretch before demanding a massive roster overhaul. But what chaps me to no end is the sloppy, SLOPPY play by the defenders. Rodney has been bad but he probably blows two fewer saves if his defense makes routine plays behind him. I can recall at least half a dozen losses that swung against the Twins after someone in the field did something incredibly stupid and/or lazy. And it's not one guy making all the mistakes. It's at least half the friggin' team. On a nightly basis, someone new steps forward and laces up their clownshoes in preparation for an epic night of failure. And that's unacceptable. If this team was merely competent defensively, they're probably 11-13 or even 12-12 right now. We're a bit disappointed by the month as a whole but are able to look forward to improvement. Instead, they've dug themselves a six game hole to climb out of in a division that has one of the best teams in the AL sitting on top.
  16. Okay, this is a lot to unpack and I accidentally deleted my last post so I'll try again. First, no one is saying your post is "tinged with ugly racial stereotypes". PUT THIS IDEA TO BED ALREADY. This conversation is not about anyone reading the tea leaves on any single post. As far as I've seen, no one has said it is racially-motivated to criticize Rosario. The problem here is that if it's even mentioned that anyone might unfairly criticize a Latino player, that everyone who criticizes a Latino player is a racist. If you think that really huge distinction is splitting hairs, America cannot have a conversation about race. Full stop. Now on to the more nuanced and second point... We can all admit that America's institutions are racist, right? I mean, that's not really up for debate, is it? We stop people of color at a higher rate. We try them in court at a higher rate. We convict at a higher rate. We incarcerate for a longer period of time. The numbers are right there... we are a racist society in every way you can measure such a thing. That doesn't mean every individual or every individual statement is racist. BUT... Where does that come from? Who built, maintains, and executes those institutions? We do. So if an institution is racist, how are we not responsible for it in some fashion? And that's the question being posed by so many in this thread. It's soooooo easy to step back and say "I don't use the N word" or "I have black friends" and wash our collective hands of the institutions we may not have built but certainly maintain. Because if we weren't collectively racist, this conversation wouldn't have to happen. And a little personal responsibility can go a long way toward resolving the issue. A racist society cannot be built by a handful of blatant racists. It takes deep-seeded biases we all need to turn around and face as individuals to fix the problems we all know exist. Not having a knee-jerk reaction to a general statement about bias is a good place to start that repair.
  17. I hope so too but that's a huge ask. Taking on four kids in various forms of disabled/injured is an enormous request of even the most giving family. What a terrible situation.
  18. I like this Kepler kid. I’ve always liked him but my affection was muted a bit after last season. I shouldn’t have underestimated his ability to adjust.
  19. He didn’t mention it directly that I remember but it was implied that he’s doing partial games and will do more in the future.
  20. He left after the fourth or fifth inning. Bremer mentioned it.
  21. Eh... Dozier is generally a pretty smart player. I’m not going to hold one boneheaded move against him. But you’re also right that gold gloves don’t mean a hell of a lot. Dozier isn’t a GG fielder IMO.
  22. He was obviously trying to catch it on the bounce but misplayed it.
  23. Yeah, exactly. Garver basically coughed up three runs by himself in the first three innings. And that’s only tonight. Almost every night, we get a new clownshoe performance from someone that ends up losing the game.
