  1. I would not be surprised to see Capps get a 1- year offer from the Twins AGAIN. Keep pouring money down that drain until they prove he was a good acquisition. Psssshh. They don't even have to make an offer. All they have to do is pick up the $6.5m option on Cappsie.
  2. Twins: Denard Span CF Ben Revere RF Joe Mauer 1B Josh Willingham LF Justin Morneau DH Ryan Doumit C Trevor Plouffe 3B Jamey Carroll 2B Pedro Florimon SS (Liam Hendriks P) Those Damned Yankees; Derek Jeter SS Ichiro Suzuki RF Alex Rodriguez DH Robinson Cano 2B Nick Swisher 1B Curtis Granderson CF Raul Ibanez LF Russell Martin C Eric Chavez 3B (Andy Pettitte P)
  3. I'd rather have Trout on my team but if I had an MVP vote, it'd probably go to Cabrera. I put a lot of weight into play down the stretch and because Cabrera's "production" stat line will include ~140 RBI, I think he deserves the award. Narrowly. But I won't cry if it goes to Trout.
  4. The Twins didn't have difficulty in attracting Willingham and Doumit last offseason and both wanted to extend their contracts mid-season. I don't think it will be that difficult to attract free agents. Obviously, the players like it here and after a horrible season last year, the Twins pulled down some decent bats on the market.
  5. There might have been some people arguing that particular notion, but I think the more legitimate concern was that he'd have trouble maintaining his overall production while hitting in front of Joe Mauer as opposed to an NL pitcher. You just aren't going to get as many good pitches to hit in that setting. He's continued to control the strike zone well, but when batting in the No. 2 spot this year Carroll is hitting .250 with a .603 OPS – a sizable drop-off from his .700+ OPS in each of the past two years with the Dodgers. He's been better hitting at the bottom of the lineup, which is pretty clearly where he belongs. Yeah, that is a legitimate concern. Hitting in front of Mauer, the pitcher is going to try his damnedest to get you out before facing the meat of the lineup. On the other hand, I think we can all agree that Jamey Carroll is not a #2 hitter, despite the fact that he plays second base. As strange as it sounds, I've heard that other teams don't automatically insert a middle infielder in the two-spot in the lineup.
  6. Yep, but Analytics is pretty shoddy when it comes to demographics. They give you great information about location and technical specs of the user, but nothing about age/gender/etc. It's pretty obvious why they do it (Google has no idea who is actually sitting in front of the computer) but it's still lacking when we're trying to really dig into our target demos.
  7. I was pretty "meh" about the Carroll signing when it happened and still feel that way. He's a decent bench/complementary player but nothing more than that. He's the type of piece a contender needs to keep the MI fresh through a long season. But I'm glad he was able to dispel the silly notion some had where he'd suddenly stop taking walks because he moved to the AL and no longer hits in front of the pitcher.
  8. Yeah, I'll probably make use of it for game threads, as well. Something to add to the list. I can't believe vBulletin doesn't have it out of the box.
  9. Retro yes, but I think it still looks awful. Hated it on every baseball field I've ever seen. I don't hate it but I don't like it much, either. It ruins the aesthetic of the diamond.
  10. Going to Comerica/Tiger Stadium would have involved me traveling to Detroit again. Why would I do that to myself?
  11. I moved this to the Twins forum so it will get more eyeballs. I just discovered that vBulletin doesn't have an option for global threads out of the box, which is a little face-palm worthy. Next time around, I'll be sure to install a plug-in that handles creating global threads that appear in every forum.
  12. A-Rod gets 30 million a year, if someone could prove to post a 1.150 OPS year in year out they could probably command close to 40 mil a year at this point. Albert Pujols is going to earn $30m in the last year of his contract. It's going to be awhile until we see a player hit $40m. Anyway, that's beside the point. By the time someone makes $40m a year, Fangraphs will say some players are "worth" $60m. Again, diminishing returns in actual player "worth" versus mathematical "worth".
  13. Let's play two! Twins: Ben Revere CF Jamey Carroll 2B Joe Mauer C Josh Willingham LF Justin Morneau 1B Ryan Doumit DH Trevor Plouffe 3B Matt Carson RF Pedro Florimon SS (P.J. Walters P) Tigers: Austin Jackson CF Quintin Berry 2B Miguel Cabrera 3B Prince Fielder 1B Delmon Young DH Brennan Boesch RF Jhonny Peralta SS Alex Avila RF Ramon Santiago C (Drew Smyly P)
  14. Four might do it but five would push him into elite territory.
  15. I've never seen a triple crown either but if Mauer manages to win five batting titles, he's pretty much a lock for the Hall. Therefore, I'm cheering for Joe to win the title.
  16. Heh, possibly. If you're still having the problem, I suggest deleting your browser cache. I did a clean sweep of my cache earlier today and haven't had the problem since.
  17. Good to know. Let me know if it continues, as I just implemented the final changes yesterday evening.
  18. Nope. No one is going to claim him. The org may as well keep him around in the small chance that he rebounds.
  19. From what I know of Nick Blackburn from interviews and whatnot, I think he very much cares. No one with a conscience likes to think they're essentially stealing money from their employer.
  20. That'll toughen 'em up. Rub some dirt and walk it off, you nancies! (this message has been approved by R. Lee Ermey)
  21. Okay, good. I've tested it on various installs of Firefox and haven't come across it yet. That means it's probably a Chrome-only problem. Now to figure out if it's all installs of Chrome, just my install, or only Chrome for Mac installs (what I'm using). It doesn't even appear to be a webkit problem (a browser architecture used by multiple browser makers). Webkit is used for both Safari and Chrome but I can't get the error to replicate in Safari.
  22. Twins: Denard Span CF Ben Revere RF Joe Mauer DH Josh Willingham LF Justin Morneau 1B Ryan Doumit C Trevor Plouffe 3B Eduardo Escobar 2B Pedro Florimon SS (Scott Diamond P) Tigers: Austin Jackson CF Omar Infante 2B Miguel Cabrera 3B Prince Fielder 1B Delmon Young DH Jhonny Peralta SS Andy Dirks LF Avisail Garcia RF Gerald Laird C (Max Scherzer P)
  23. Well, that's because players are paid in diminishing returns. A player will only get a certain amount of money, no matter how valuable he is as a player. The system is flawed because it's not represented in reality, not because there's anything inherently wrong with the math itself. No player will get $40m a year, even if they post numbers like a juiced Barry Bonds. The player may *technically* be worth that much in pure mathematical terms but no team will offer anything close to that number in reality.
