  1. Just tuned in. What happened to Crazy Arm?
  2. I'd go as far to say that he'd be an excellent third option, maybe even second if he can get healthy and repeat 2010. But not at $6.5m. Never.
  3. As a team it has some correlation to offensive success but for individual players, it's often pretty useless until you get to the outlier players (Miggy/Mauer on one end, Mendoza-types on the other). It's hard (impossible, really) to have a .330 average and a bad season and it's very difficult to have a .200 average and a good season. Spread out over an entire team, you're going to have your plus/minus power and OBP guys (in most cases, anyway), which balances out the weaknesses of using only BA to evaluate total offense.
  4. Twins: Denard Span CF Ben Revere RF Joe Mauer DH Ryan Doumit C Chris Parmelee 1B Matt Carson LF Jamey Carroll 3B Alexi Casilla 2B Pedro Florimon SS (Samuel Deduno P) Evil Empire: Ichiro Suzuki RF Derek Jeter SS Robinson Cano 2B Nick Swisher 1B Curtis Granderson CF Eric Chavez 3B Raul Ibanez DH Chris Stewart C Chris Dickerson C (CC Sabathia P)
  5. Batting average isn't useless... It's merely close to useless. With that said, the batting average race is interesting this season... Can Joe get his fourth crown or will Miggy pull off the first Triple Crown in 45 years?
  6. People thought Jeter was done seven years ago. Then he went out, worked on his defense, and posted one of his best seasons (and probably deserved the MVP) in 2006. He's been a bit up-and-down since then but now he's posting another great season as he approaches 40 as a middle infielder. The guy isn't human. I hate the Yankees as much as the next person but you can't hate Jeter... you just can't. He's the consummate professional, always exudes class, and "plays the right way". Is his mystique overblown? Absolutely, but the guy is one of the greatest players I've ever seen.
  7. I don't think "entertaining" is the word I would use for Hawk. ...well, maybe when the Sox have just suffered a soul-crushing defeat, then he's entertaining. One of these days, we're going to hear him cry on-air and it will be glorious. He's easily the worst announcer in baseball. Well, maybe Rex Hudler is right there with him. Hudler is ****ing awful.
  8. No, you're doing it wrong. DFA>>>>>>>>Jeff Gray
  9. Twins: Denard Span CF Ben Revere LF Joe Mauer C Justin Morneau 1B Ryan Doumit DH Chris Parmelee RF Trevor Plouffe 3B Jamey Carroll 2B Pedro Florimon SS (Esmerling Vasquez P) Yankees: Derek Jeter SS Ichiro Suzuki RF Alex Rodriguez 3B Robinson Cano DH Nick Swisher 1B Curtis Granderson CF Russell Martin C Raul Ibanez LF Jayson Nix 2B (Phil Hughes P)
  10. Clear your cache and log back in. I changed a setting a few days back that might bugger some cache settings.
  11. Obviously, Liriano just needed a new pitching coach.
  12. You're talking to the wrong "stat guys". Every stat guy who knows the game says that OPS is flawed. Why? Because it weights slugging the same as OBP, which is absolutely not the case when it comes to player valuation. OBP>>>>>>SLG. Gleeman came up with a formula to counter that flaw in OPS with his GPA formula. OPS is a good quick and dirty stat when you want to quickly find out relevant information about a player. It is NOT intended for nuanced analysis. In any case, OPS is still better than BA, which is virtually useless on its own. According to BA, Miguel Cabrera and Joe Mauer are basically the same player. Yeah, nothing incomplete about that statistic.
  13. This is patently untrue. Stop saying it. During the Smith years TR did provide all player eval imput to BS as BS has no player eval skillsn. BS is to blame for the bad contracts but Ryan and his scouts are to blame for the utter lack of talent in the organization. Did JR advise BS on players? No doubt. Did Smith listen? I have no idea and neither does anyone else on this forum. In the end, Smith was the decision maker. He gets the blame for bad decisions made during his tenure. Given what JR has done since that point (plus signings in Doumit/Willingham/Burton, a marginal signing in Carroll, and bad signings in Marquis/Capps), I think he's done a decent job with the franchise. The last draft certainly went gangbusters with Buxton and Berrios. Like I've been saying all along, rebuilding is not a five minute process. JR is entering his second offseason. If he doesn't come through this winter, then it's time to start complaining.
  14. Doumit is quite the surprise there, as is Span. The rest, not so much.
  15. Dodged a bullet there, eh?
  16. This is patently untrue. Stop saying it.
  17. Even a healthy Capps is not worth the $6.25m difference between the option and the buyout. Pass. Scott Baker won't get that much in 2013. Who would you rather see paid that money?
  18. Not that it really matters but there are other ways to drive in a run other than getting a hit, such as taking a walk with the bases loaded or hitting into a fielder's choice.
  19. I hated picking him up for another season instead of taking the pick but what is done is done.
  20. Ah, I thought he had two years of control. I'd probably try to do a midseason deal if he performs again.
  21. I don't believe in signing relievers unless they post multiple above average seasons. If the Twins pursue a two or three year deal after Burton has a stellar 2013 season, I'm all for it. But right now, it's an unnecessary risk.
  22. I feel like I've watched this game before.
  23. I filled in that part for you. I flagged your IP address.
  24. The Twins signed Willingham on December 15th. There will be guys willing to sign with the team if JR makes competitive offers. It shouldn't take extra years in most cases.
