  1. This is something that fascinates me with modern conservatism. In a free market, unions should be embraced with open arms. They are a private organization to fight for workers' rights... In a truly free market, they are the only organization capable of fighting for workers' rights. I don't like a lot of the things unions do and have done over the years, but without government intervention into the free market (which we all know is bad, right? RIGHT?), it's the only logical solution to combat corporate control over workplace conditions.
  2. I'm just going to assume that the problem is fixed now. Whew.
  3. It's actually a great analogy, but for the wrong reasons. The problem with art/porn is that individuals know it when they see it. But show that art/porn to a group of people? Then it's infinitely harder to agree upon its purpose.
  4. This place could use a dose of Trolpo. Damn, I miss that guy.
  5. Still too cold. Can't think about baseball.
  6. AFAIK, it had nothing to do with your conversation, BlueSky. Don't worry about that.
  7. We are discussing this internally, to be sure. But I'm not the best moderator in the world, either. I tend to be too lax on posters. Having admined several forums of varying sizes over a ten year period and noticed my stance on posting versus other mods, I'm the first to admit that. There needs to be someone sterner than me to chase after the people who continually bend the rules. We're talking it over.
  8. This particular problem is not intentionally made to render that way. I changed some code in the ad tags so hopefully, that will stop the large ads from overhanging content. Also, could you tell me what browser you're using and immediately to the right of the forums, are you seeing a large white space (about 320 pixels wide)?
  9. I'll never forget the time Barry Bonds and Jeff Kent fist fought each other to within 5 outs of a World Championship. That was truly awe-inspiring leadership from two of the classiest guys in baseball.
  10. Wow. It happened. I'm tired of Correia bashing! I no longer have it in me to rip on the guy! It was a bad signing. He's a Twin now. It's time to just knuckle down and hope for the best.
  11. Well, maybe. If Justin OPSes at .800, he'll take the Twins' offer. If he OPSes at .850 or better, there's a chance another team will offer him enough money and years to sway him away from the Twins.
  12. Anyone who hates on Joe Mauer doesn't understand the game of baseball. That's all there is to it. The guy has one of the best approaches in baseball, period.
  13. Yikes, talk about cherry-picking stats. What about Gibson's 8.2 K/9 or his 2.4 BB/9? Gibson's ERA and H/9 are inflated thanks to his pre-injury stint at AAA, where he scuffled for quite some time before getting TJS (4.83 ERA, 10.3 H/9, 95 IP). Gibson is not a #1 pitcher. He may not even be a #2 pitcher. But he is a guy that puts the ball on the ground a lot, strikes out his fair share of batters, and doesn't issue an abundance of free passes. That's a valuable guy in any rotation. He just needs to get his command back, it seems.
  14. Except that once you adjust for league, Correia isn't really much better (if at all). He's going to strike out less batters in the AL. He's going to walk more batters. He's going to give up more hits. His ERA will almost surely inflate. Looking at his NL numbers and expecting them to carry into 2013 is unrealistic.
  15. Particularly in a season where the Twins payroll is maddeningly low.
  16. Adjust those stats for league and Deduno looks like the better pitcher, if only by a hair (other than the huge discrepancy in FIP). Yikes.
  17. No, it's a common practice to clear out old data that may be mucking up the system, particularly when much of the code used for this site is exactly the same as the old site. You spent months accumulating data using the old site and some browsers aren't very good at wiping out that old data and replacing it with the new. And vBulletin relies heavily on caching and cookies. It causes some headaches from a development standpoint, particularly because I have no control over user caching. It's handled client side and thanks to some vB options, I can't wipe out some old data that really screws with how the site is displayed (the most annoying of which is the minimized sidebar in the forums, which is most likely Pseudo's problem based on his description). It's a common cause of trouble and is generally the first thing one does to troubleshoot a problem, much the same way "reboot your computer" is the first thing a tech person says when software malfunctions. Eliminate the easy causes before delving into the harder stuff.
  18. A utility guy on many teams is a starter for the Twins. We tend to keep the bar pretty low when it comes to middle infielders. Like many, I was sketchy on Dozier remaining at short but I completely understood why the team tried to keep him there. He doesn't have to hit as much and he's much more valuable if he can play even a mediocre shortstop.
  19. I don't even know what this means. Brock is hit by +18 Vorpal Sword of Confusion for 253 damage. Brock has died.
  20. But do we know which pitches he's struggling to control? If it's his secondary stuff, that shouldn't be entirely unexpected. He just doesn't have that many innings under his belt since the surgery. Sure, it has been 18 months since TJS, but only about 100 innings, the majority of which came against younger and inferior competition.
  21. That's a good point. Gibson relies on that slider a lot and from everything I've seen and ready, that's the last pitch to come back after TJS. Sure, he's throwing harder but if that slider isn't working, his effectiveness will be limited (or non-existant) against MLB hitters.
  22. D&D? Pssshhh. Nerd. Try it, buddy. My THAC0 is -8.
  23. Uh oh, now Jim is talking to himself.
  24. Keep it up and I'm going to ban you for two months to maintain control over your posting through 2018.
  25. But what if Escobar goes down? I'd feel a lot safer if Butera was there to back him up.
