  1. No, it really doesn't. It still scores low on the HTML5 test compared to Chrome and every other major browser on the market. But the key difference is that Chrome/Firefox/Safari/etc. update every few weeks. IE updates every blue moon. If IE10 is behind in standards compliance now, where they'll be by the time IE11 rolls out is very, very bad. The HTML5 test - How well does your browser support HTML5?
  2. I could make that work, I just liked the overflow of the design. I'm going to spend more time looking into it once I get some of this other stuff sorted out.
  3. We had some discussions about the avatar. Personally, I base a lot of whether I click into a thread on its creator. I'll almost always read a Nick Nelson, Seth Stohs, or John Bonnes thread but some other posters, I... stay away. I may be in the minority there, though. As for bigger text, it's a design trend. Earlier, it seemed like sites were trying to pack more and more onto each page, sacrificing readability in the meantime. Now, the trend is to reverse that with bigger fonts that are easier to read. That's the reason for the larger fonts you see throughout the site now. That problem is only compounded when you realize that now, people are actually browsing the web on smaller devices than ever before. Just two years ago, the 10" iPad was the smallest (non-phone) device used by people to browse the internet. Now, we're seeing a rash of 7-8" tablets, which render pages at such a small size that text on many sites is unreadable. I didn't want that to be the case with TD.
  4. The only difference in body font should be that it is now a few points larger in size. I did change some title fonts, though.j Not to be defensive about it but oh man, I disagree about iPad viewing. I tested this new skin extensively on the iPad with the purpose of making it much more tablet friendly, as tablets are about 10% of our viewing audience now. Bigger fonts, eliminating the side scrolling advert, larger sections, etc. IMO, it's a thousand times cleaner and easier to use on a tablet. But to each their own, I suppose.
  5. Strange. I'll have to troubleshoot it more in-depth when I can get a copy of IE10 in front of me. I did an online screentest using IE10 and it rendered correctly. Bah, I hate IE so much. It keeps getting better but it was so far behind every other browser on the market that despite its improvements, it's still behind what everybody else is doing.
  6. Is it fixed now? I just changed some code but I don't have the ability to check it in IE10 right now.
  7. Yeah, that's because IE8 doesn't support transparency. If you have the ability to stop using that browser in favor of something that isn't mired in 2005 technology, I'd suggest doing so.

  9. In preparation for the looming 2013 baseball season, we've rolled out a new look for TwinsDaily.com. You should find the new site easier to navigate, easier to read, and hopefully, find your experience an improved one all-around. We've worked to better integrate the forums with the front page, linking the two with widgets to see what is happening in various sections of the website. [PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]Also, be sure to mark March 23rd on your calendars, as that is the first Twins Daily viewing party of 2013. It will be hosted at 612 Brew in Minneapolis with the game scheduled to kick off at 12:05pm Central Time. Come by and join us to watch the Twins take on the Tampa Bay Rays! As always, any new site will "feature" its host of bugs and problems. This is the first time I've done a complete redesign of the site using this software so if you see any problems with how the site appears on your browser, be sure to mention it below! Thanks again for visiting Twins Daily and we hope you enjoy all the work we've done to continue improving the site.

We've worked to better integrate the forums with the front page, linking the two with widgets to see what is happening in various sections of the website. We'd also like to thank Summit Brewing for being the first official Twins Daily sponsor! Recently, we've been reaching out to local businesses in an attempt to better target our sponsorships to our readership. Summit, being one of Minnesota's premiere breweries, seemed like a great place to start and we thank them for being our first sponsor on the site. Click through their ads and show thanks to them for allowing us to continue to do what we do here at Twins Daily. 11. Figures that IE10 would bring new and exciting bug rendering to the Internet Explorer family. It's the one version of IE I don't readily have access to for testing. I'll look into it, though... When I checked the site last week, it was working as expected in IE9 but after all the hassle during the transition, something could have gone wrong.
  12. The site is actually wider than it was previously... About 80 pixels wider. The forum sidebar was a difficult design choice, particularly for me because I put a really strong emphasis on the forums. Basically, we had to come up with a way to better integrate the other site features into the forum area. The only way to do that is with a sidebar but we couldn't make the sidebar collapsable if we hosted ads over there... So, in the end, we pinched the forums a wee bit. It's not really that big of a difference, though... Maybe 180 pixels smaller than the old size. It was not an easy choice but it's one that had to be made, IMO.
  13. That was a casualty of the transition bug and we never intended for it to be removed. It has been put back on the site now.
  14. We had a few issues with the site update and some unexpected "surprises" during the transition. So, if you see a problem, something doesn't work as expected, etc., post it here and be sure to list what browser you're using. Thanks.
  15. It wouldn't surprise me at all if a few of these guys were encouraged to play for non-US teams. The WBC is about getting other countries excited about baseball, not US citizens.
  16. It would be hard for me to come up with a signing I like less than the Correia deal. The Liriano deal would have been marginally better but still pretty bad. On the other hand, I think there's a decent chance he'll thrive in the NL.
  17. Not to pick nits, but... I'm going to pick nits. Winnings divisions and losing in the first round of the playoffs is not mediocre. The Blue Jays were mediocre in the 2000s. Rarely really bad, rarely really good. Somewhere in the middle almost every season. That's mediocrity. Getting to the playoffs 50% of the time cannot qualify as "mediocre" by any definition of the word.
  18. I just read through that entire thread and one person said Hicks might fail because he strikes out too often. Well, it's true. He might fail because he strikes out too often. He strikes out a lot. Other than that, the vast majority fell into the "I'm not sure he's ready but I have high hopes for him" camp. Don't you see that people wanting Hicks to get a little more seasoning are actually high on him as a player? If they were down on him, they wouldn't care if his clock started yesterday. You're calling blind optimism "courageous" and reasoned restraint "negative". It makes no sense. Some of the biggest Hicks supporters are the ones who want to see him handled carefully because they like his future so much that they want to see the Twins get the absolute most they can out of the kid. Just because they're not standing up and screaming about how much they just addddooooooooore Hicks and his three Spring Training dingers doesn't mean they aren't excited about his future with the team. It's the exact opposite, actually.
  19. Defensively, I suppose they're comparable. *shrugs* My statement wasn't geared so much at you as the original poster. The comparison is a bad one because offensively, they're not even close to the same player. But I think all of us would be happy if Hicks performed on the level of Hunter... But if he does, he'll do it in a completely different way. It still means the comparison is a bad one.
  20. We'd all be happy with that, I think. On the other hand, there are reasons to think he might be better than Hunter. It's a bad comparison all-around. Hicks is a switch-hitter, Hunter is not. Hicks has patience, Hunter did not. Hicks had several very good years in the lower minors, Hunter did not. Hicks hasn't hit for average since rookie ball, Hunter came to prominence by hitting .337 and then .368 in AAA. Hicks strikes out .9 times a game, Hunter struck out around .7 times per game. Other than position and skin color, there's really nothing all that comparable about the two players.
  21. Virtually nobody on this board is down on Hicks. A few (myself included, though I'm not adamant on the subject) want to see him get a little time in Rochester. We don't predict doom-and-gloom for the guy... In fact, it's the exact opposite. We're excited to see him play but want to make sure he's ready for the big leagues before tossing him into the fire and think that managing his clock at the same time is a good idea. If we were all down on him and didn't think he was deserving of his top 100 prospect status, why would we care about his service clock? Yet somehow, restrained excitement = Negative Nelly while a poster's positive-yet-not-based-on-anything-more-than-position-comp is "courageous".
  22. Holy crap, my Snark-O-Meter just pegged at 11.
  23. This (and a little of #2... Not that Ryan can't rebuild, I just don't like his approach to "bridge free agents"). I occasionally boil over because they had the ability to be better but didn't take it. I'm not asking for Zach Greinke. Hell, I'm not even asking for Anibal Sanchez. Saunders and Marcum in place of Pelfrey (not really against the Pelfrey signing, though) and Correia would have left me quite happy going into this season.
