Physics Guy Verified Member Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 I'm hoping there are enough people here that have either made the trek down to Cedar Rapids, or live there, to help me out. We are traveling to Chicago over Father's Day weekend and my wife has graciously agreed to make a side trip through Cedar Rapids. I also have two young baseball-playing boys (10 and 7) who will be making the trip. Mostly, I am looking for recommendations for hotel accommodations. We are looking for something that is clean, has a pool and possibly serves a continental breakfast. Any other recommendations for the day would be greatly appreciated also. It looks like there are two major pockets of hotels, one north of the stadium on 380 and the other south of the stadium. Is either location preferred?
Seth Stohs Site Manager Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 I stayed at the Roadway in. It was really cheap, like $39 a night or something. When I went there, a new ownership had just taken over on April 1st. It wasn't fancy, but the room was clean, the staff was nice, there was a continental breakfast that was pretty decent. At that time, the pool wasn't available, so you might want to call on that. It's about 5 minutes from the ballpark and kind of out of the way from other hotels. But, thats just me, and it was three good nights there, so I'm sure others have other thoughts.
pioneers3 Provisional Member Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 I don't know what your Budget is, but the Clarion Hotel and Convention Center is about 5 Minutes from the park, right off of 380. It's a nice hotel, all the visiting Football teams in town to play Iowa normally stay there. Has indoor pool and a nice little sports bar. Plus a few fast food joints near by. Not sure about the Breakfast. Hotel in Cedar Rapids IA, Clarion hotel near Hawkeye Downs Another one is kiddy corner to this is the Fairfield inn & Suites. Looks real nice, never been there. Physics Guy Verified Member Posted May 3, 2013 Author Posted May 3, 2013 Thanks guys. I should have known to check Knuckleballs.
rcfarmer Provisional Member Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 The best tip I can give is to watch the speed on I380. The speed limit drops to 55 and is photo enforced. They will send you a nice photo of your car and license plate. I found out the hard way last fall. I did go to the game last Sunday, it was a great time. We just went up to the ticket office and asked what they had and ended up sitting in section 112, just two sections from directly behind home plate, seven rows up. Before the game we were able to get Jose Berrios autograph as he was charting pitches. They also had Steven Gruver and Brett Lee signing before the game. I think they always have two players signing before each game so come ready with baseballs or trading cards.
