Aaron Hicks' Jersey Number?

Since conversations about jersey numbers are being universally praised as worthwhile and interesting...

I thought I would pose the question: Now that Hicks has officially won the Starting Center Fielder job, do you think he gets switched to a "better" jersey number than #63? Or do you think he would have been given the option of a lower number or different number early in Spring Training, seeing as how he has definitely been viewed as a future piece of the major league puzzle since before his impressive Spring?

Good question. It is tough to say, while numbers in the 60's are rare some players do choose them.

Dick & Bert think that he will have a new number come opening day. What number did he wear in the minors?

Didn't catch Bert and Dick discussing it. I think he wore #13 at New Britian.

He wore #12 in HS. He was wearing #31 in NB last year, but that is Alex Burnett's number, so Hicks might not get to wear that again.

I would guess the Twins will give him a few options.

Hicks has worn:

GCL Twins - 55

Beloit Snappers - 5

Fort Myers Miracle - 5

New Britain Rockcats - 31 - He wore 31 because his dad did (and Dave Winfield did).

If you scroll a little ways down, you can see what numbers are worn by whom.

Some early favorites:

1 - currently worn by NRI Ray Olmedo.

2 - worn by Dozier (and Span and Revere), I'm sure he'd take it if given the chance (he won't).

5 - worn by Escobar, who appears destined for the Opening Day roster.

11 - "big brother" Ben Revere's number last year; vacated when Thomas was sent across the street.

22 - worn by Wilkin Ramirez, who has a shot to stick.

31 - worn by Alex Burnett

48 - worn by Brandon Boggs, who has a shot to stick.

55 - vacated by Chris Colabello.

Hicks, officially, is hooking #32 from Kyle Gibson.

Apparently he decided to one-up his old man.

Danny Gladden will be alright with that. Players are sometimes funny about the guys who take over their jersey numbers. It's like they're linked together in a small way.

Where did you hear this about Hicks wearing #32?

So Hicks can take any number he wants from anyone who is not on the 25 man roster? Or how does that works?

Not sure how it works. I remember hearing that the clubhouse and equipment manager decided which numbers go to which players, but I'm sure the team steps in and makes certain choices. Especially when choosing a number for one of their "main guys".
