Born: Alan Paul Busenitz, Aug 22, 1990.

School: HS at Athens Christian School in Athens Georgia and went to college at Kennesaw State University.

Drafted: 25th Round, 2013, Angels

Acquired: Aug 1, 2016 from the Angels in trade. The Twins sent Ricky Nolasco and Alex Meyer to the Angels for Busenitz and Hector Santiago.

Minor League Stats: 5 years combined, 3.41 ERA, 1.274 WHIP, 7.8 K/9, 2.4 W/9, .5 HR/9, 3.19 K/W

 

For the Red Wings this year, Busenitz has tossed 29.1 innings in 19 appearances posting a 2.15 ERA. He has allowed just 7 Runs and 9 walks while striking our 32 for a 9.8 K/9. He has one just one save. He was called up and made his first appearance yesterday for the Twins. I don't know why he was not called up sooner.

Busenitz is currently enjoying his third round in the majors but continues to fly under the radar here in TD land and across Twins territory. For the Twins he has pitched 10.2 innings. He has struck out 5 and allowed 4 earned runs for a 3.35 ERA in an extremely small sample size. He has also walked just 3 hitters. Alan Paul has given up 3 home runs in that SSS which gets people to sit up and notice (we always notice the fireworks don't we) but his overall body of work is ok with the big club.

For Rochester, APB has tossed 35.1 innings and allowed 7 runs for a 1.78 ERA. With 39 strike outs, his AAA K rate is over double what we are seeing so far in the majors. Another part of that lower ERA would be not allowing any Home runs in Rochester. He has only allowed 10 walks all season and he has a 0.82 AAA WHIP. This all may be aided by some luck as his opponents BABIP is .235 vs a career (and more normal) BABIP of .326

Busenitz finished the season pitching 1/3 of an inning in the playoffs. His final season numbers in the majors were 1.99 ERA with a .98 WHIP in 31.2 innings and 28 games. He struck out 23 for a 6.54 K/9 while only walking 9 hitters.

 

Busenitz figures to remain in the majors next year and use up the rest of his "prospect" status as he continues to establish himself as a legitimate MLB reliever.
