Very little talk of him on here. What kind of prospect is he? 

 

Has good K/9, is 24 years old, and has the closer job at AA (Over Burdi)

Nice live arm.  The problem with him is his walks.  This season in particular has been pretty bad, close to 6 per 9 IP.  Cannot survive that in the bigs.   He had a ridiculous 6 game start of last season as a 23 year old in Cedar Rapids, but has not come even close to that bit...   This season will be a good test for him.  If he ends up with K-BB% (one of my favorite metrics to look at relievers) around 25, then we can potentially talk about making the majors as a reasonable high leverage reliever.  20 is probably as low as you want to see this metric in a prospect.

 

In addition to Burdi (and Melotakis) who are opening eyes in AA, finally it seems that Luke Bard might be getting it together there...

Fangraphs write up on the Twins included this small nugget on Curtiss - "Curtiss throws 94-96 with life but has issues repeating his release point and his 84-86 mph slider is fringey. You could argue it’s a 70 fastball based on the movement."
