Look at the Tape... True Accountability

The Twins have not been a good team for many years now, which finally resulted in a front office change this year signaling a new direction. I am convinced that one of the primary contributing factors to the Twins futility is their lack of STRATEGIC preparation and review. I hardly ever recall a player or coaching saying something to the effect of "well, we know Sale likes to throw back door sliders when he's behind in the count so I was sitting on that" or "we went back to the video and figured out I needed to be closer to the plate." Ironically, that last one applies to a situation with Chris Colabello where it took a phone call from a heartsick Rod Carew to tell him to move closer to the plate after a several-week long disasterous stretch of play. After he made the adjustment, he was one of the hottest hitters in the league for a month or so. Why did that advice have to come from a 70-something year old watching a game from 2,000 miles away?

After the last couple seasons this organization should be poring over every minute of video, every mistake and every success and creating a customized plan for how to address it. Every team/player/coach should do that, but I always got the feeling that the Twins players and coaches were content to leave the losses in the past. Well, if you don't learn from the past, you're doomed to repeat it.

I hope the team is doing this in a cohesive manner. I hope the new execs were hired because they have a specific plan for turning this team around, meaning specific fixes/tweaks for players and a specific strategy for addressing flaws/mistakes. I hope Molitor and his staff have some answers after reviewing the tape from last year.

But I don't get that sense. It seems as though players and coaches are doing the same things they did before. I hope I'm wrong, maybe it's just not being reported (in which case, can we please get into some specifics about what is being done to right the many wrongs).

Anybody else see it this way? Sorry to start a new thread, but this is a great place to discuss why this is/isn't true - AND to store examples of the team preparing/reviewing or not. In doing so, we can create a true record of accountability as opposed to being disappointed yet baffled by results... (crap we lost, well tomorrow is a new day, I don't know why player X isn't performing, he did well before)
