Over on the main page, Nick Nelson detailed the status of Minnesota Twins closer Glen Perkins (with a killer headline) and what the future might hold for the two-time All Star reliever. Needless to say it is a must-read if you have not done so already. Off the field, Perkins has done a lot for his former collegiate program at the U of M, including donating to help finance the much-needed remodeled on-campus Siebert Field. Of course, Perkins also recognizes the need to support the team away from the park as well. Baseball is a grind after all and the mind needs to rest.

On Tuesday morning, Ben Humbert, a freshman in the University of Minnesota program from International Falls, tweeted at Perkins with a request that the former Gopher donate a PS4 to the baseball team house.

While most professional players might balk at this request, Perkins quickly went over to Amazon and placed an order for the gaming system.

According to Baseball-Reference.com, Perkins has made close to $14 million to date over his 10 year major league career so it goes without saying that the homegrown pitcher can throw around some charitable cash. Again, he’s not obligated to donate anything to his alma mater and he’s certainly not required to send a PlayStation 4.

Good on Glen. The Gopher baseball house will not be bored this season.

Cool.

Perspective:

Perkins is making $6.3 million this season.  For him to drop $630 dollars (for an entertainment system for athletes who go to College for free with Taxpayer $) is the equivalent of someone who is making $50K to buy $5 worth of Girl Scout cookies (and probably pains Perkins' less.)

But he did it.

First off:Don't be an *******.

Second off: don't be so salty.

630 dollars is 630 dollars, and I am pretty sure he does a lot more for charities as well (I think I read some stuff about him raising money for a charity to run a marathon or something?) your comparison is weak too since most people buy Girl Scout cookies to actually eat the cookies, not to hand out money. When was the last time you gave significant money or a gift to someone you never met before for nothing in return?

Good for Glen, guy is an awesome pitcher, a class act, likes good beer apparently, likes to BBQ and was a battle your tail off fan. Cheers all around to him, he is on the short list of my top people I would love to by a brew for someday if I ever run into him. Those ball players at Minnesoya must be stoked! Scholarship or not, luxuries like the best gaming systems are hard to come by in college since it's nearly impossible to make any sinificant money legally while in college. Less so when you are on a college sports team.
