Minor League Jersey Joust

Every season, the Kernels (and just about every other minor league team) have nights when the team wears special "theme" jerseys that are then auctioned off for the benefit of some charity or another.

 

I admit that I'm a sucker for these things, as my closet full of odd colored and patterned Kernels jerseys will attest to.

 

If this is a phenomenon you aren't familiar with, you can now get a glimpse at how creative teams and their jersey vendors are getting.

 

MiLB.com is holding a "Jersey Joust" contest at the web site that matches up jerseys in a "tournament" style contest.

 

The Kernels and Red Wings both have jerseys in the "joust" that you can vote for. (The Kernels also wore the same style Hawaiian jersey that is shown as representing the Peoria Chiefs in the contest, fyi.)

I can't speak to how any team but the Kernels work, but the only time I've ever seen jerseys available with Kernels beyond the game day auction has been at a late season general silent auction when they might have some available that were not bid on the night they were worn. Those, however, have become very rare situations recently. Almost every special jersey is bid on and purchased on the night of the game. That leaves you to checking ebay or some other secondary market avenue.

 

They don't purchase extra jerseys to sell in the gift shop, for example.

 

I'm really not sure if they will take a bid over the phone before the game starts. That would still subject your bid to being outbid, of course.
