stringer bell Verified Member Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 1) White Sox (gag) 84-79--game 163 playoff win. 2) Twin 4th with 72 wins 3) New uniforms for Span, Liriano and Capps 4) Texas wins the WS in seven games because Joe Mauer singled in the ninth inning of the All-Star game giving the AL home field. Pittsburgh's cinderella story ends up one game short.

Winston Smith Verified Member Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 The Twins will win the Central with a 81-81 record after trading the even number top 20 prospects to Phil. for Hamels and the odd top 20 prospects to the Brewers. for Greinke. They roll to the world series and win it all when Blackburn pitches a perfect game in game 7 beating the Wash Natl. Ryan said after the series that trading away the top 20 prospects in the system for a series win was the right thing to do, he was retiring for good this time and Bill Smith would be taking his place again, Smith was not available for comment he was in Japan scouting light hitting infielders.

I like this better than reading "Span" as in a new uniform after the deadline.

one_eyed_jack Verified Member Posted July 3, 2012 Author Posted July 3, 2012 Interesting answers. Lots of picks for the Whities, but I'm having trouble seeing it. It seems like every year there's a team that surprises everyone with a strong first half, then fades after the all-star break. This Whities team feels like one of those. Their second half schedule is tougher, and I question whether guys like Rios and AJ will maintain their production levels. We shall see. Frankly, nothing would surprise me in this division of misfits.
Nick Nelson Site Manager Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 I posted these as a series of tweets today but thought I'd copy them here as it seems relevant to this thread: - Doing research for content in an upcoming #Twins scorecard. Did you know they've had a .600+ W% post-break 5 times in 10 years under Gardy? - Number of times Gardy has had a team finish the 1st half over .600: zero. For whatever reason, his (good) clubs ALWAYS surge in 2nd half. - The cumulative second-half W% of playoff teams under Gardenhire is .623 (compared to .433 for non-playoff teams). #Twins - Now hear me out on this... Say the #Twins went 3-3 to finish out road trip, then played .623 ball in the second half. They'd finish 85-77. - Do they have the pitching to do it? Probably not. But 85 wins sure could be enough in this division...

IdahoPilgrim Provisional Member Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 1. Chicago White Sox, with a 85-77 record. 2. Twins finish 5th, at 73-89, after a July tease followed by an August swoon. 3. This is a tough one: the only one I'm confident about is Capps. Possibly also Liriano or Pavano (if he's healthy), but not both. 4. In a rematch of last year, Texas will beat St. Louis, who will cap a late run by peaking at just the right time.
