Wednesday's Wild Night in the Minors

It is officially the first day of summer and that means action will be heating up across the baseball world. The Twins found themselves in a pitchers duel in Pittsburgh with Francisco Liriano throwing one of his best games of the year. A rough seventh inning meant that Liriano wasn't able to pick up the win but a late inning home run from Josh Willingham pushed the Twins to a 2-1 victory.   Some injuries to the Rochester bullpen forced the Twins to make some transactions in the farm system. A bold new world

So this is slightly intimidating for me. My name is David, I grew up in southern Minnesota and have been a baseball/Twins fan for a long time. I've never written a blog before and only recently have begun participating in any sort of online forum (I used to comment on the mlb.com website but that grew old). I stumbled upon this website through the Star Tribune Twins Centric page and have loved every minute that I spend here. Since then I have abandoned reading the actual Twins Centric site and s

On R.A. Dickey and His Recent Dominance

By now, you’ve probably heard about the dominant stretch R.A. Dickey has put together over his last few starts. He’s thrown back-to-back 1 hitters, and here’s his stat line from those two games combined: 18 IP, 1 R (unearned), 2 H, 2 BB, 25 K. In particular, look at that K/BB ratio. From a knuckleballer! Now how about his last 6 starts?: 48.2 IP, 21 H, 2 R (1 ER), 5 BB, 63 K, 3 complete games.   As a Twins fan, it may be a bit bittersweet to see this from Dickey, because he was actually a

Cuddyer signing "totally unnecessary"

I hear lots of griping about the lack of starters. I think Terry Ryan has put a more professional team on the field with smart moves. Sure they won't win the central, but I believe TR will assemble more pitchers in the offseason.   Even other writers think so     http://www.denverpost.com/kiszla/ci_20886798/mark-kiszla-jeremy-guthries-era-more-proof-rockies?refresh=no

Let's Make a Deal for Denard Span

This blog is also available on our original site along with a quick and easy poll to vote in   In six weeks the trade deadline will come to pass, but before that happens there will be rumors, conjecture, and wheeling/dealing of innumerable kinds. It's exhilarating and yet, frightening because--after all--you're giving up something you know for something that is totally unpredictable. There's so much uncertainty that it makes me feel every bit as anxious as I used to feel watching game shows as

Random Tuesday Twins Thoughts and Tidbits

Originally published at The Tenth Inning Stretch ----   Here is this week's installment: Congratulations to Beloit Snappers for making the 1st half playoffs. Here are Snappers' AJ Pettersen's thoughts about Beloit's first half. Congratulations to Oswarlo Arcia for being promoted to New Britain. He is on the 40 man roster, so it very well be that he would be called up to the Twins in September from AA, pretty much like Parmelee and Benson did last season. Here is a great story about the Twins

Ben Revere: Placeholder??

Tuesday Morning Tidbits

Original post from North Dakota Twins Fan ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ After pulling out a victory in a 15-inning affair on Sunday afternoon and into Sunday evening, the Twins got a much needed day of rest yesterday before traveling to Pittsburgh. The Twins will play the Pirates and the Reds to complete their interleague schedule before returning home and getting back into American League action. Both of these teams have been playing well in the last couple weeks so it will be interesting to see how the Twin

Chic Automatons

I love the Twins Daily Site. It presents to me a lot of insight, angles and intelligence.   I love the metrics also, and I understand it is a sabermetric dominated site - but in a way, I find the Twins Daily site a dominated platform for "Metrics" individuals and it can become quite stifling for some.   There is seemingly a small amount who play it by the vest and display their emotional quotient, but they are on this site hoping for their chance to have a voice... and want/need a platform. Even Though Their Were Plenty Of Mistakes In Yesterday's Win, The Twins Will Still...

Originally posted at http://troystwinsdugout.wordpress.com/2012/06/18/even-though-there-were-plenty-of-mistakes-in-yesterdays-win-twins-will-take-the-victory/   Hello Twins fans, How about that game yesterday! It took 15 innings, but the Twins got it done thanks to a base hit by Denard Span that scored Brian Dozier. There were plenty of mistakes for the Twins at the plate. The most glaring is Ryan Doumit grounding out with the bases loaded to end the bottom of the Twelfth. Part of it is the Brew

2012 Day-by-Day - June 18

Not a very active (or successful) night tonight. Ft. Myers is coming back from their All-Star break, while Beloit heads into theirs. New Britain has an off night, but GCL Twins debuted tonight, sans Byron Buxton and the Elizbethton Twins start tomorrow. Thus I have added 2 new pages and they new tabs can be seen on the bottom of the page.   Recap:   https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0AiRVhKu18uIhdDBSYUc5UGtSMkluOEFSWFdnTVdvQVE&output=html

Catching Up, Revere, Dozier, and Other Notes

Originally posted at k-bro's baseball blog   Hi. It's been a while. Nothing like a busy-at-work-busy-at-home lifestyle to put a dent in one's blogging ambitions. But anyhoo...     I have a few thoughts.     My thoughts on Ben Revere How much fun has Benny been to watch lately? The plays in the outfield, the improved hitting, the smiling, the adorableness, the little chicken wing thing he does in the batting box, the plays in the outfield ...     I was excited about him last year, but this

Twins Must Decide When, Not If, Glen Perkins & Jared Burton Are Available

Some spring training moves are bearing fruit. The question is when they will be most ripe?     Glen Perkins hasn't been especially effective this year, but he still profiles as possible closer long term, with well over a strikeout per inning. Even better, this spring he signed a deal that keeps his salary team-controlled through 2016 at a level considerably below that of a closer.     So how should the Twins play that? On the one hand, they could trade him now to a team that finds a left-handed
