Varland Lifts Saints Past Bats 5-0

Saint Paul, Minnesota - A strong pitching performance led by Saints starter Louie Varland lifted the Saints past the Louisville Bats by a score of 5-0 on Friday night. The Saints improved to 65-46 on the season and 22-15 in the second half. Saint Paul, Minnesota - If you are coming out to the ballpark on a Saturday night you never know what you may see. Kyle Garlick had a home run overturned and Saints manager Toby Gardenhire was ejected all in the first inning. The Saints would still find a way to get a few runs across in the first, but in the end, it would be the Mud Hens that would get the last laugh in a 7-3 win over the Saints in front of 9,364. Saint Paul, Minnesota - Dallas Keuchel made his second appearance with the Saints on Saturday night and first appearance at CHS Field. The 35-year-old worked 4.1 innings allowing zero runs on three hits in a 10-6 Saints victory over the Gwinnett Stripers at CHS Field in front of 8,715. Saint Paul, Minnesota - Yunior Severino continued his massive week at the plate going 3-for-4. The Saints had two triples in the sixth inning that helped the Saints to overcome the Indianapolis Guardians by a score of 7-6 and split the six-game series. Saint Paul, Minnesota - It was hot and humid at CHS Field on Tuesday night. However, the bats were hot too. The Saints collected fourteen hits in a 14-7 win over the Toledo Mud Hens (Detroit Tigers) in front of 7,109. The Saints improved to 56-40 on the season.  Louie Varland started for St. Paul. Saint Paul, Minnesota - The St. Paul Saints had three players on MLB Rehab Assignments in the lineup on Sunday afternoon. Byron Buxton sent a ball to the warning track in the bottom of the ninth but in the end, it was dominant Mud Hens pitching that helped Toledo get past the Saints 3-2 on Sunday afternoon in front of 6,003. Saint Paul, Minnesota - Mark Contreras stepped to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the ninth with a chance to win the game. With the winning run on second the Saints were unable to complete a comeback. Contreras flew out to right, which ended the game, and the Saints fell 5-4 to Toledo. Saint Paul, Minnesota - The Saints and Mud Hens started the final series of the regular season on Tuesday night. The Saints carried a shutout into the ninth inning. Saint Paul, Minnesota - The Saints and Columbus Clippers (Cleveland Guardians) started a six-game series on Tuesday night. For the first time since June 16th, nine innings was not enough to decide the game. Saint Paul, Minnesota - A unique start to the game with the first three hits coming in the form of solo home runs. The Saints were able to hang around when Hunter Greene (MLB Rehab Assignment) was pitching before breaking through, scoring five in the fifth to pick up an 8-5 win over the Louisville Bats on Thursday night in front of 8,456.
