  1. I don’g get the continued calls for Granite to go down because he needs to play “everyday”. He’s 25. He is OLDER than Max Kepler AND Byron Buxton and barely one year younger than Eddie Rosario. The only way he will ever be a regular starter for the Twins is if one of those 3 gets hurt or traded. And it is not at all certain that he would be next in line should that happen. So, what exactly is to be gained by having him play “everyday” when that is not likely to ever be his role as a Twin? I’m not advocating that he should for sure be on the 25 man roster. Really don’t have a horse in the race as far as who the reserve reserve OFer should be. Just not understanding why some think there is something to be gained by sending Granite down to play everyday.
  2. Maybe they have been working him out at 3b or corner OF.
  3. Unless Tyler Duffey is recalled, the Twins really don’t have a long reliever or someone who might be able to make those handful of spot starts needed in April.
  4. Yeah. The rotation at the start doesn’t mean much. Anyone remember who started game 2 for the Twins in 1991?
  5. It’s simply a convenient platform to keep the issue relevant in the conciousness of people. There will be a large number of people and a relatively large media pressence.
  6. It would be pretty unusual for a veteran (and Rogers would actually be the longest consecutively tenured member of the pen) to lose his job in spring training. The Twins know who he faced this spring. I would guess he faced a lot of right handed hitters. He likely won’t face many with the game on the line in games that matter. Spring training numbers mean even less for relievers than for other players. They are just getting their work in. No regard is given to who they are brought in to face in ST. That isn’t the case in regular season. When Rogers comes into a close game it will almost always be with a lefty coming up next.
  7. Perhaps I should have clarified. I’m not expecting large scale protest. But a half dozen or so wouldn’t surprise me. And if there are, one can be certain the media will call attention to them, because that is what the media does. And I absolutely think he will “hear it” on the road. Because that is what some fans do. Do whatever they can to try to get under the skin of the opponent.
  8. Not sure what more “developing” is left for Granite. He’s 25, which is older than 2 of the 3 projected starters. Granite hasn’t had a substantial lefty/ righty split for the last two years and actually hit LHP better in his SSS at the MLB level last year.
  9. It’s not likely to be an issue that goes away, particularly in the current climate. Just about guarantee there will be protests at the Twins home opener and that Sano will hear all kinds of epitaphs thrown at him this year and beyond. It’s a distraction the team doesn’t need and one that Sano may or may not handle well. I think I would almost rather have seen a 10 game or so suspension. That may have done more to “put this to bed” so to speak. We’ll see how it plays out, but my guess this is far from the end of the story.
  10. The last gasps of Paul Molitor were still pretty good. The rest, yeah well. Yeah. It’s even easy to forget that Chili Davis came to the Twins in 1991 because he was getting a reputation as injury prone and few teams wanted him.
  11. As I recall, he did that because the strap of the chest protector felt funny with just a single digit.
  12. I want to say a few years back one team did 5, including their own. I think it was a NL West team because the Rockies home opener is usually late, sometimes into the third week of the year.
  13. I know this doesn’t belong here, but I didn’t really see a contact webmaster link. I figured this was the quickest way to get it seen. Just as long as someone takes action, I don’t care what happens to this post. Having pop up issues, big time. It’s not my phone, because it only happens on this site. It’s usually right away when I click on my icon to the homepage. I’m not sure what can be done about it, but it is truly annoying.
  14. Who is Grossman likely to pinch hit for? Castro or maybe Kepler or Morrison against a LHP would be the most likely candidates. Thing is, Garver would likely be a better option vs LHP.
  15. Vance Worley was the Twins opening day starter in 2013. That decision and being put into a position to make that decision are why the house cleaning was so badly needed and why it was so clearly overdue. The Twins had 10 different guys start at least 8 games. One had an ERA under 4. Only 3 were under 5. It’s a miracle that team didn’t lose 120 games. I probably would have gone with Berrios and hope he starts a streak. But that’s me. I don’t know if I love the idea of him pitching in Puerto Rico. He’s still young and emotional. I can see the situation getting the best of him.
  16. Doesn’t mean it isn’t done that way. I’m sure it’s part of the CBA. Sure, it would make more logical sense for it to be a donation from the owners. But there are a lot of things in the CBA that don’t make sense.
  17. Here’s an interesting question if anyone has an answer? Does Lance Lynn have an option remaining? Let’s play hypothetical: Twins continue to use him only in minor league games. They could theoretically (if he has one left) option him to AAA retroactive to his last appearance in a MLB ST game. It has already been stated that he won’t be available for the first series. The Twins could “recall” him in time for his first start at the expense of someone else (Hughes, Kinley, maybe a position player?). Falvine proved rather adept at shuffling the deck last year. We’ll see how outside the box their thinking can be.
  18. If I am right, it wouldn’t be. It would be a charitable donation that either the player or the team could write off.
  19. Not enough upside? How many other pitchers in the org can hit 99?
  20. Well, last year that was (arguably) Danny Santana and Michael Tonkin. Both of whom were DFA in early May.
  21. One would assume Falvine knows. That’s who made the decision to option him out.
  22. Are you certain that is how that works? I think I heard that fines are given to MLB Charities programs. Could this be the same scenario?
  23. Rogers had a handful of terrible outings at the end of July. Perhaps not coincidentally almost the entire team shat the bed that week or so. Other than that, he was pretty good in August and in September. For a guy who still has less than 2 years experience at the MLB level, he’s done exceptionally well IMO. That said, he is what he is - a lefty specialist. He was sort of thrust into a setup role by default at times last year. He really doesn’t have a pitch to consistently get righties out. That’s why he shifted to the bullpen in the first place. As for Moya, as I recall he actually has had “reverse” splits, even in the minors. He might be a set up guy someday, but he isn’t likely to be a loogy.
  24. That’s impossible to say at this point. Falvine have had no qualms scouring the waiver wire to fill a need. Who might be available if Adrianza isn’t cutting it is anyone’s guess.
