  1. From the National Weather Service, as part of the excessive heat warning issued in Chicago today. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS...IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER. TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK...THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS.
  2. So, now that’s 4 guys out from the heat.
  3. So, I have to think that Mejia and Hildenberger get optioned out to be replaced with fresh arms tomorrow. When is Romero eligible to be recalled? By Thursday?
  4. Am I missing something? Duke hit for himself but didn’t stay in the game to pitch? Why not have Lynn pinch hit? He’s a NL guy. Sure, Duke technically has better hitting numbers, but the last time Duke had an at bat was 4 years ago. I get hanging onto Morrison if someone else goes down, but try some creativity Paul.
  5. My mistake. Cave left in a double switch. Still, 3 in only 6 innings.
  6. So, by my count 4 players left the game most likely due to the heat. Maybe someone should have considered making this game a night game, when it would have been cooler. If I were running the MLBPA, I would file a grievance.
  7. It’s too early for Hildenberger. The only other options are Rogers or Magill. Magill threw like 35 pitches yesterday. He’s likely not available.
  8. Reed in the 5th. Interesting.
  9. Hey, when did Jacque Jones come back? And he throws righty now too.
  10. I think that was on Mauer. He ranged too far IMO. He should know where Dozier is. He should have covered the bag. No way was Mejia going to get there.
  11. I think you need to remember that the “new catcher” is the defacto back up infielder. Until that changes, I would say there is no chance he starts behind the plate.
  12. Escobar is reverting to the mean. He’s been slumping the last week or so. Anyone who thought he was going to be a 150 OPS + guy was likely a little optimistic.
  13. Hey, Belisle is going to screw up his ERA. He has one that is the descriptor of a common commercial airline: 7.47
  14. At this point Magill might as well finish the game. He threw 60 pitches last time out. He should be fine.
  15. Maybe “can’t” isn’t correct. “Won’t” would be more accurate.
  16. The alternatives being Cave, Wilson or Austudillo. Can’t use Austudillo since he’s the only back up infielder.
  17. for those keeping track, this is appearance 41 for Pressly in team game 78. Edwin Diaz leads MLB relievers with 42 games. Of course, Seattle has already completed 82 games.
  18. Not suggesting that he has said or done anything that would make anyone question his desire to work or get better. Just a general philosophy that a good humbling can be used as a learning experience.
  19. I’m not going to criticize Molitor for failing to remove Berrios. Even though it is pretty obvious he was well off his game today. If Berrios is going to be the ace of this staff, he needs to figure out how to get outs and give his team a chance to win when he doesn’t have it. Frankly, in what is increasingly looking like a lost season, this kind of humbling can be good for Berrios. It will make him remember that he still needs to work to get better everyday (as does everyone else).
  20. So, according to gameday, Ehire Adrianza hit a sacrifice with one out and the pitcher due up. It led to an error but still. Was that an actual sacrifice attempt or bunting for a hit? Bunting for a sacrifice in that spot seems silly.
  21. If Motter is out, who backs up 3b, ss and 2b.
  22. Gameday is calling most of these pitches by Santiago “sinkers” yet showing them at shoulder level. If he’s that bad, shouldn’t MLB hitters be... Never mind...
