  1. Jackson should be a prime target for a risk terrified team like the Twins. Say he signs for 3 years at $39 million. Even if he's not pitching at a $13 million level, his track record says he's not likely to completely crash and burn. He'll give reasonable innings and limit BB while having the actual ability to strike a guy out if the situation is desperate for it. Will he pitch to a $13 million level? Maybe not, but there's little chance he'll pitch below a $10 million dollar value either. He's safe and besides, he's proven to be a very tradable commodity.
  2. Closers/set-up men seem to be more valuable at the trade deadline as that seems to be an area of need for multiple contenders and so often they go down with injury. I'd probably wait to move Perkins unless another Revere-like offer was made.
  3. Awesome way to get to know our guys. His answer to the quesion about what he learned in E'town was interesting. He said he learned a lot defensively but there was not a lot of learning offensively. Is that intentional? I can't imagine they make players wait until full season ball to begin working on the offensive improvements.
  4. Hopefully his glove rubs off on Sano and Rosario.
  5. I might like it better if my GM hadn't already over-valued Ervin Santana and Jeremy Guthrie. If those guys are your number two and three arms, your rotation isn't very impressive.
  6. It's incredible, isn't it? I have no illusion of competing next year, and I've been on the rebuild bandwagon since before last season, so unless the Twins change their minds and go after Marcum or Jackson on a multi year deal, I couldn't care less if they sign the other junkballers as rental players. However, to rip on those that DO want to see some free agent action is a load of crap seeing as the GM flat out lied to the fans, specifically those that follow this site. Ryan said he was going after a "pretty darn good" pitcher, John's quote not mine. http://twinsdaily.com/twins-talk/3801-article-terry-ryan-twins-will-chase-pretty-darn-good-pitcher.html Now unless we find out Ryan is making a play for Sanchez, we know that was not true, as reports from LE3 have refuted that the Twins have made any offers to any of the other top arms. Ryan was just on the baseball network the other day and said you can make offers but "sometimes you can't give money away." Sneaky, sneaky. The implication was that the Twins were TRYING to sign guys but they wouldn't take the offers, what it likely meant was, "We ain't giving our money to those bums." There is no obligation for Ryan to be straight with us, but by deceiving the fans with the hope that the rotation will be improved via free agency, he forfeits his right to be defended by Twins homers.
  7. Antoine Walker is a terrible businessman, Magic's done pretty damn well for himself. He's invested in so many different projects some are bound to fail. I doubt his ventures have filed bankruptcy anywhere near as often as Donald Trump's do. Trump sure seems to know how to turn a profit.
  8. Well assuming they won't compete with the big pockets over Sanchez, and if we are to believe LE3, that the Twins won't pursue Marcum or Jackson, there's no other pitchers any reasonable fan should give two wet farts about.
  9. People seem to be sugesting saving money for international signings and draft picks. Can't happen, teams can't spend freely there now, they are both capped.
  10. Good breakdown but there are many more options than those. At the bare minimum, we already know Liriano has an offer on the table. Though unlikely, I don't think ruling out Marcum and Jackson actually rules out Sanchez. If the Twins are looking toward the future, it may mean the are ruling out guys in the 2-3 year range. If they are looking for a pitcher who they can count on when the team is ready to re-contend, they may see Sanchez as the only legit arm aside from the too expensive Greinke. For the record,I'm not Sanchez's biggest fan, but I wouldn't be shocked if he's what Ryan thinks he is saving his payroll for.
  11. Good point, except for the part where you forgot to mention that Manship was awful at every level of the minors. What was the highest he ever made it up the organizational rankings? Did he even crack the Twins top 20?
  12. A percentage means jack if you don't have a payroll figure. So if the team gets 24 guys signed and they are sitting at $80 million, does that mean they can't spend another dime for the 25th guy because of that stupid pricipal? Doubt it, if anything the 50% rule will only be used as an excuse to keep payroll down.
  13. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's not upset the Twins didn't sign another injury prone, noodle-armed starter that would require the terrible Twins defense to get 80% of his outs for him.
  14. I don't want to make it sound like I am questioning you, but I'm trying to figure out what is the Wichita connection, if any? Looks like Pelfrey's from Witchita. I'd imagine a lot of pitchers looking for a rebuond year would have the Twins high on the list seeing as there is plenty of rotation space to be had and there'd be less worry of ending up in the pen or DFA'd.
  15. Well it sounds like he better start learning Japanesse then.
  16. Will the top pitchers really take this team seriously after they traded both CF's and are reported to be listening to offers for both Mauer and Morneau? True or not, it doesn't sound like a situation that a pitcher who values winning as importantly as money would want to walk into.
  17. I'd like Drew or Johnson, but Schumaker is cheaper and a more consistant OBP guy. I'm sure the Twins are looking to fix the top of the lineup in tandem with finding middle infielders.
  18. Ha, actually Dana Carvey quote. He took liberties with his impression and quotes of Bush on SNL.
  19. Good Lord, call off the dogs. Nowhere did I say he would be useful, I simply implied he still may have something left in the tank.
  20. I'd be interested if the FO thinks he can still play 2B. He was a good OBP guy back in LA. He wouldn't be the first guy to resurect his career after getting a huge payday then tanking in Seattle. Beltre certainly has been productive since he left. Ironic, Washington legalizes pot after the Mariners get rid of disappointing slackers.
  21. The Twins would need to require another huge overpay because point number four was most apt. It's not like his salary will now go toward free agent pitching. Losing his salary would just help to set the bar lower for future payrolls.
  22. They may not have punted yet, but they may as well if they don't fill the top of the lineup. I was interested in Jeff Keppinger before these moves, he'd look pretty good playing 2B/3B and in the two hole right now. He seemed like a good fit, don't know why the Twins showed no interest.
  23. Lets flip the script for a second. Say the Twins thought THEY were the contenders but needed a CF/leadoff hitter to be taken seriously. Which of the TWINS top ten prospects would you be willing to give up for Span? Kepler, Berrios maybe? I don't know if I'd give up either for Revere. The system's deep.
  24. Is there some requirement that new prospects need to have an 's' added to their name? Is this like the start of Meyersie, Maysie, Gibsie, etc? Thank God, I thought we re-signed Joe.
  25. I think you give Hicks a couple of months in AAA, get yourself a 7th year of team control, then let him sink or swim. I hope we're not going to be that brutal about the situation. We've coddled the guy for half a decade now, I'm not willing to let him sink if he struggles. He hasn't always had the smoothest transitions between levels, I'm fully prepared to see him bounce up and down between AAA and the majors no matter when he gets the call. He should have a long leash too as Arcia isn't a centerfielder. If Benson doesn't rebound, we're then left wating for Roberts, Buxton maybe Kepler and none of them have played above Low A. 2013 likely will be ugly regardless, no need to rush things now that there is finally a clear picture of the future.
