  1. I've made my feelings about Ozzie Guillen clear but I'm curious how people would feel about this HYPOTHETICAL (I cannot stress this word enough) situation: The Twins hire Ozzie Guillen to facilitate a new Minnesota-Cuba pipleline with the intention of using the manager to successfully entice Yasmani Tomas to sign with the Twins. Worth it or not?
  2. Um, did josh willingham just take a pitch for a single the other way?
  3. Well sure, but it's used correctly what, 5% of the time when someone shares an apple pie recipe? This damn thing isn't a suitable news source, yet that's what lazy journalists use it for now. Of course, since they "legitimize" it as a news source, idiots mistakingly think Ricky Nolasco and pseudo celebrities' inner monologues are news which in turn makes these dim, delusional and self obsessed clowns actually think their opinions on ISIS is news. Please go away Twitter.
  4. Interesting. I was totally on the "not flipping out" side but I'm a convert now. I'm up for anything to rid the world of Twitter. Nolasco you cowardly traitor! I hope you get one herpe for every dollar you get paid!!!!
  5. I want a front office change just like I wanted a managerial change, and I don't like that the Pohlad's are basically letting Ryan self-impose his accontability. That being said, Ryan might be the most stand-up guy in the league and if I trust anyone with "sefl-imposed accountability" he might be the only guy I'd trust with it. If the Twins stink it up next year, I would bet good money that Ryan will releive himself of his duties and explain in his press conference that he isn't stepping down due to health or a wish to retire, but because he didn't do what he was paid to get done. Just because I want change doesn't mean I don't fully appreciate the kind of person that he is.
  6. I'm sure there were people asking what the hell Dave Trembly did wrong to get fired from Baltimore or Manny Acta from Cleveland or John Russell in Pittsburgh. They were given terrible teams with terrible rotations. It might not be fair, but there's a positive track record of switching out managers in losing situations. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, but if it is broke, try something and make it bold.
  7. Are you getting this from a different report than what Seth posted? I didn't interpret anything from the original post that he only came out of it with minor stitches.
  8. My fandom isn't affected, but it's generally not the fandom of people on sites such as this that MLB needs to concern itself with. It's the average or casual fan that simply no longer watches the games but gets the highlights and score off the internet. And it is absolutely correct that the time between pitches is the biggest culpret. Fortunately, as mentioned, this situation is fixable as there is a rule in place and pitchers can be compelled to speed up the game. Of course if they have less recovery time between pitches, and with max effort deliveries much more common, we will then likely see more pitching changes. Of course as mentioned, the time it takes for pitching changes is a drop in the bucket compared to time between pitches. Of course the biggest overall road block will be the advertising revenue. The MLB won't be inclined to make any changes to shorten games while they still swim in excess ad money. Of course, this will dry up if people stop watching, sponsers don't want to blow money on something people don't watch. From my point of view these issues are correctable, and likely will be corrected in time due to the natural effects of capitalism. MLB will enforce pitch speed rules once people stop watching enough to drive advertisers away. We only need to hope that MLB understands the situation and does not dig their heels in long after it's too late to reverse course.
  9. Then none of them should be surprised to find it's not butter but spittle from the other guy's plosive consonants being screamed at full force.
  10. I guess I must have turned the channel before they started talking about positive things. I thought the difference was the demographic Olbermann thinks he caters to don't care to watch blowhards rant all day.
  11. My pick put in stone: Kyle Funkhouser. Mark It Down. The name is awesome plus the Twins love their Kentuky players lately. Nick Burdi, Logan Darnell, Taylor Rogers, Will Hurt, Lance Ray, Ben Revere. They even traded for Alex Meyer! Put it down in stone, I will not change my mind. Until next March at the very earliest. Last year I said Michael Cederoth would shoot up the draft boards and the Twins should take him. I got half of that equation right.
  12. Dan Barreiro it seems falls under the "Ozzie Guillen is the Only Latin Coach I can Think of" spell. He says he doesn't think the Twins are brave enough to bring in that kind of controversy. I don't give the Twins a ton of credit these days, but if dodging Guillen is cowardly, then I'm fine with them being yellow. There are more level headed mangerial candidates, Hispanic, African American, Asian and boring old Caucasian, that won't demand the spotlight from his players.
  13. I don't know, somehow the guys yelling the opposite yet equally or more extreme rubbish keep their shows for decades.
  14. Gardy is being a pretty big man about this. Thanking everyone including the media. He dropped a line about Berardino calling his wife THIS MORNING to get a quote about the firing and Gardy jokingly gave him a hard time. I would not have been as amused. Ryan said he has offered Gardy a position elsewhere in the organization. Gardy has yet to decide. Gardy says he agrees with the decision as the team needs a new face and he wants them to win. I kind of want to cry. Most clubs wouldn't have the fired manager at the presser, let alone leading the damn thing. Mark Rosen to Ryan: Do you think your health puts you in position to lead the club and find a manager to get this team back to winning. Ouch. To sum it up, Ryan says yes. Listening on the radio, but Ryan has seemed on the verge of breaking down a couple of times. As a listener, I can tell you it's contageous. Gardy says he isn't done managing yet, he thinks. Ryan says it will take some time to hire a new manager. He said it will take time to fly guys in or fly out to meet guys. Says they can't just consider internal candidates. Ryan was asked if a Latin voice would be something they would be looking for considering the make up of the young talent. Ryan said diversity would be strongly considered for either a manager or a coach.
  15. It's got to be do or die time for Ryan. I believed that TR's and Gardy's fates should have been tied together so there couldn't be any second guessing about which part of the equation was most at fault, but I don't think there's any question that if the replacement can't get the job done, Ryan will need to take the fall.
  16. So we've talked about internal candidates. Who are the external ones? Even if they never get highly considered, there will be some to give the restructure some legitimacy. I'm guessing Mike Maddox if the Rangers don't sign him. Clearly the pitching is the biggest issue and is there a bigger name manager possibility with pitching background than Maddox? People keep bringing up the lack of Latin pressence, so perhaps Sandy Alomar Jr and Omar Vizquel? Vizquel in particular would move the needle.
  17. I agree with a lot of what Olbermann says, but he will take any opportunity to grab headlines. Does Olbermann care if the Twins win? No. So does Olbermann care if the Twins have a modern manager who can help them win? No.
  18. It sounds silly to say, but by keeping Gardenhire through the last four seasons, Ryan may have inhbited the managers future job possibilities. In 2010, after another post season flop, many people were asking for a new manager, had Gardy been fired then, he likely would have found a new gig with ease. Now four years later when progressive statistics, infield shifts and platoons are 10x more popular, Gardenhire looks that much more like a dinosaur. I hope he gets another job, but I think he and Kirk Gibson are going to be looked at as too old school.
  19. I say we wait to see if Tony La Russa interviews any of these guys for gigs in AZ, and if he does and offers them a position, than the Twins swoop in and retain the guy. I'm OK with using La Russa's expertise to do our dirty work. I do want wholesale change though, so I would be torn if La Russa saw something in one of our guys.
  20. I feel sick and remorseful even though this is half of what I was asking for. It's been a good run Gardy, thanks.
  21. Lucky Ricky may get off easy. I'm guessing the baseball writers have bigger fish to fry today! Hmmmm, in fact perhaps we can start thinking about conspiracies. Perhaps Ryan canned Gardy to defelct attention from Nolasco's tweet.
  22. It feels like when you have to trade your old bachelor days car to get the family minivan. You know it's the right move buy you had so many great memories with your glory days car that it makes you feel sick to let it go. It was a good run and thanks for the memores Ron. Whenever you're done with full-time baseball, I hope to see you at spring training and instructionals or in some other similar capacity with this organization.
  23. I don't think the statement is being taken out of context. I just think, duh, of course he would like to play for LA. He wouldn't have left had they offered what the Twins did last off season. I just think it's silly that anyone would get upset about his statements. After all, haven't we been complaining for years that our teams have to overpay for players because they'd prefer to play for a team on their preferred coast because those teams are winning/warm/more exposed/close to home? Why would anyone act like his is an atrocity now? We all knew the terms and conditions of being a fan of a mid-market midwest team.
  24. Shields has been important to their uptick in wins, but it could be argued he's not even their best starter. Ventura has a better ERA+ and Duffy has a better WAR. Shields K numbers are continuing to drop while the number of hits he gives up is increasing. There's a great chance KC got Shields at the very end of his peak seasons and the bottom falls out starting next year. And we can't forget that Shields wasn't the only player the Royals got back. Wade Davis has been fantastic. Surely TB wishes he was closing games for them now. If KC decides they don't need both Davis and Holland, they will have a pretty outstanding trade piece to recoup some more prospects.
