    W.T.H. How does anyone in that building, aside from players Ohtani and Trout, still have a job? Mass firings must be upcoming. Absolutely mind boggling, and frankly, a bush league move. Any chance the Twins can get any of them? The Giants, Reds and Marlins all still have worse records and still in the playoff hunt.

    Only six draft picks this year and McBride can't make the team even after Cook is cut loose. The picks from the last two years better step up big or this front office is going to need to find better scouts.

    Boy, looking at the remaining schedule, Texas, Houston and Seattle play each other a lot. They also have some other tough matchups. I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that the Twins end up with the #2 seed. A lot of ground to make up, but the Twins last 16 games has to be the easiest schedule in the whole league.

    Call me crazy, but I want Tampa. I know it's always the case with them, but their record is better than the players that make up their roster. Except for 2020, that does seem to help them in the regular season, but not in the post season.

    While he's not hitting as well, he's somehow only drawn ONE walk in August. Looking at his swoon last year, he only had four walks last September. I'm not sure how to explain that other than perhaps at some point pitchers stop worrying about grooving pitches to a slap hitter with no speed?

    Ryan should be three. Number one should be whomever Baldelli is least likely to get antsy about pulling after five. Until the All Star break, I thought that would completely eliminate Gray, but he's gone six innings or more in seven straight starts, so I'd lean toward him lead to things off. Even if he doesn't like it, I'd like to see Maeda as an early-pull replacement out of the pen, like the Dodgers used him. If Baldelli gets squeamish and pulls a starter early, like he (and Molitor and Gardy) has done in the past, I trust Maeda in that role to keep the team in a game more than Ober and Ryan, and much more than most of the other bullpen options.

    Agree that they might have been told to stand pat. I'm not sure about the payroll aspect, but ownership might have said they've made their beds with some poor signings and bad trades and they don't get to waste any more prospect equity trying to fix their mistakes. Win with the players you already asked for, or someone else will get a shot. But to be fair, this was the most blasé group of deadline players I remember. There was really nobody that would have moved the needle for me. David Robertson might have been the only guy I saw moved that I thought the Twins should have been in on.

    AZ traded Isaiah Simmons to the Giants for a 7th round pick. Seems like if Flores is the creative defensive mind he's portrayed as, a LB/Safety combo player might have been a good fit here.

    Kellen Mond's tenure with the Browns last as long as his tenure with the Browns. This team used to do so much better in the draft. Just looking back through the recent years now and there hasn't been a draft since 2015 where you look at the picks and think, dang, they really hit on more than one guy this year.

    I mentioned it in another thread, but I'd give Austin Martin the CF job and see if that builds a fire in Buxton to take it back next year. Not that I in anyway think Buxton isn't hurting and trying his best, but hopefully he can physically heal and be extra motivated come next spring. Also, speaking of Arraez, it seems as though he's going through a late season swoon as he typically did with the Twins, I wonder if his knee is acting up once again too.

    Yeah, certainly more fans than not feel that way. Last year was a lot of fun, still, my enthusiasm wasn't at the level it was in 2009 or the late '90's through early '00's. Plenty of decent teams since, but I guess when I know the ceiling is capped, it's hard for me to indulge myself. Though to be fair, I'm not young any longer (not OLD old, but definitely a way different person now). The stress I felt back in those days may impact me more than I think.

    I'm on board since I'm now a Super Bowl or bust fan. But plenty of people would be upset because they prefer watching playoff caliber teams, even if there is no reasonable chance at a title, and I'm empathetic to that.

    Yeah, I want them to get a top end QB through the draft, but that's going to be hard next year, and possibly the year after. This could be a good and cheap test case. Though I really hope that KOC isn't tied to the same Shanahan philosophy of only using pocket-passer friendly offenses though. I want the next QB to be a guy who can move and pick up 1st downs with his legs after Cousins has left. Also, all reports seem to indicate that the 49er's really like Lance on a personal level. Usually you'd want to make this trade in the other conference, but perhaps they'd be amenable to doing Lance a solid and sending him home, considering all the misfortune he's dealt with.

    Insanely, he's still two years younger than Jaren Hall. Also, I'd be happy finding a reason to get rid of Nick Mullens. I never understood why you'd carry this type of QB. If your starter goes down, your season is over, Mullens types aren't going to carry a team to anything meaningful. If you're going to lose a QB and stink, might as well stink epically and with someone with developable upside.

    And not to be needlessly critical, but thus far I've seen little from this front office's drafts that's encouraging.

    A fourth or less I'm good with. Or contingent draft picks based on usage/performance. It's probably over for Lance, but Shanahan is not the QB whisperer people make him out to be in league circles. Maybe Purdy will break the mold, but he develops and only uses low end game managers and that's it. Garappolo, Beathard, Hoyer, Mullens, Purdy? Cousins and an inherited 30-year-old Matt Ryan were his pre-SF success stories. These guys are immobile pocket passers. It seemed to make sense when they drafted Lance, as he could sit a year behind Garappolo, but obviously he doesn't play Shanahan's style. I wouldn't be surprised if Lance was a big fight between Shanahan and Lynch.

    Reportedly, Trey Lance was pulled from practice to avoid injury after losing out to Josh Darnold for the #2 QB role. Where's he getting traded to?

    Contrarian take here, but the young hitters seem to be feeding off of each other while the vets are mostly struggling. I won't speculate why. Buxton hasn't been playing the field or hitting well this year. I might rather give Martin the CF job, shut Buxton down for the year, and see if his competitive instincts take over wanting to prove everyone wrong and take back his CF job with a vengence in 2024.

    The paralyzing fear of the unknown when the known is already not acceptable, is a loser's mentality. I want no part of it. What if the new thing is implausibly even worse than this thing we have which is already the worst?!?!? Nothing, that's what. You still fail the test if you score a 40% or a 50%.

    Yeah, wish the Twins had called up Martin or another of the young guys sooner to compete for the spot. A September call up would be great, but it likely won't be enough games to make the front office comfortable going into next year with them in key spots. I mean, had the Twins called up Wallner sooner last year to give him enough reps, maybe we don't go through this whole Gallo fiasco in the first place. Had they given Miranda a good run in 2021, maybe he would have been the opening day 3B, the Twins don't trade for Urshela, and Spencer Steer would have been among the fist call ups and wouldn't have been traded. I'd like the blame the Vazquez signing on the team's reluctance to play Jeffers over Sanchez, but if memory serves, Jeffers was injured multiple times last year. Bottom line, twiddling their thumbs with these young guys when there are average-at-best vets on the 26-man roster is not productive.

    Yeah, I was all gung ho about developing our own pitches when this front office took over before realizing that wasn't actually what Cleveland was doing. And it makes complete sense if one's of the mind that pitching is more volatile and unpredictable. Acquiring pitchers that are already or near MLB ready is obviously the safest bet to build a rotation. As far as the hitters go, sure, we can give the front office some credit, but homegrown hitters carrying the load is pretty much how all of this organizations best teams were built. Over-reliance on other team's former hitters is almost always a poor decision, even going back through the Terry Ryan era.

    I never cared for either Cine or Booth, but I assume if the Vikings trade for Taylor, they'd have to extend him. If that impacts their ability to extend Hunter, Hockenson, Jefferson, Darrisaw and O'Niell, I'm probably out. Also, then they'd probably have to manage to get one of the top QBs in the draft next year, unless they think Hall is the real deal.

    I stopped reading Coward's intentionally contrarian list when I saw Calvin Ridley and Lawrence at two. This is just uneducated troll fodder. Like everything he says.
