  1. Yes. If he gets hurt or goes back to being "Bad Frankie" in August or September you get nothing. He is one of the few chips the Twins have that can bring back a couple high upside low level minor leaguers. SELL HIGH AND BUILD FOR A RUN IN 2015!
  2. I still remember the moment I opened that pack of 89 upper deck that held the Griffey rookie card. The most beautiful card ever made. The smell of the Upper Deck cards was very different and kinda cool.
  3. I am fortunate to have the money to sit in the primo seats which gives me ability to talk to scouts. You would be suprised how many are nice guys who are willing to talk. Some, especially when they are focused on the pitcher on the mound will not give you the time of day. I see you are from Nevada, go to Cashman Field some day and sit behind home plate. There are usually scouts at minor league parks and those guys can be fun to talk to.
  4. If this is true than I must apologize for the overreaction. Still Don't you have to talk to these prospects ahead of time regarding signability? To leave that much on the table this year when you could sign 2 or more potential impact prospects to start in your system this year has to be more valueable than carrying the money over to next year. I hope Jeremy can shed some light on this issue of carryover money.
  5. I'm sure you agree with Terry Ryan's idea to pocket a mil and not go after some upside picks because you feel Twins can't use any more talent in their organization right? It's more about the poor thought process at this point in not having a plan and again not knowing the rules. Just like the Capps deal where Ryan didn't realize the Twins could pocket a free Sandwich pick by letting him sign elsewhere. Which again, shows Terry Ryan does NOT put any value on the draft.
  6. Umm....I dare you to try to find a team with a worst draft record from 2004-2010. ZERO all-star players and zero players that can view viewed as foundation players going forward. Plouffe has been hot but is hardly a for sure bet. Perk appears to be a good RP but they are a dime a dozen. Garza is a good player but the Twins are such good talent evaluators (like you say) that they traded him for Delmit Young! The rest of the players you listed would be totally off the radar in any organization other than the depleted Twins organiation. Wow, they sure are great talent evaluators!
  7. The Twins draft was once again an epic failure. Terry Ryan and the scouting department have failed ever since Mauer was drafted and nothing will change until they are fired. Sad to see they left 1 million on the table when their farm system is depleted of even servicable arms. Without lucking into Buxton I would guess Terry and his good old boys would've been fired by now. Here is what John Sickles has to say about the draft: "The Twins were left with the second largest total under their allotment but when adding in the 5% that a team could overspend, they left over a million dollars on the table. That number would be close to $900k without the Mazilli signing but 100k is not counted for the players taken after the 10th. Erich Knab and James Marvel would have been good targets to offer that extra money to. The Twins could have drafted and signed a million dollar talent and chose not to. This is a failure in my eyes. They were put in a position to make an impact and did not use any strategy. They took a pile of college arms in a weak year for college arms. I am disappointed. Sorry for the rant, it frustrates me listening to Twins management on the radio about their thoughts, then seeing a plan poorly administered." http://www.minorleagueball.com/2012/7/14/3159380/2012-mlb-draft-signing-deadline-thoughts I try to talk to scouts at Twins games frequently and yesterday talking to a few they feel the Twins are so far behind the times in scouting, player development and statistical analysis that they will not recover until the house is clean. The problem for all of us as fans is that the Twins org is a good old boys society and as long as you are a "nice guy" you will never be canned.
  8. Exactly, that is the MAJOR problem with this organization and cannot be fixed overnight or in one offseason for that matter.
  9. There is no way Liriano has been one of the worst 5 SP in MLB over the last 5 years. I agree Blacky probably has been the worst over that timeframe and Pavano may be top 5. If not for their contracts and the clueless Twins front office they both would be unemployed. I can't imagine Liriano has been worse than those 2, Livan, Drabek, Zito (close), Jon Sanchez, Cook, Marquis off the top of my head.
  10. He is a high value utility guy who catches 3 days a week. A rich man's Skip Schumacher with less speed but better vs LHP.
  11. If Joe can't get thru to pitchers what value does he have besides a DH/1B? Seriously quit calling this guy a catcher.
  12. The All Star game was so taxing for Joe he couldn't man up and catch a game after 4 days off. We need to quit calling him a catcher when he only does the job part time. Nothing like paying 23 mil for a slap hitting DH who forces us to play freaking Butera 50 games per year!
  13. You have to be careful calling a draftee successful just because they made the bigs. The Twins have been a terrible team for 2+ years now and it is doubtful that guys like Dozier, Blacky, Plouffe, Devries, Parmelee, Butera, and others would ve played an inning for a .500 team this year. Plouffe never gets that 2nd or 3rd chance to go off for a good team which is fortunate for both him and the Twins.
  14. No change for me. Outside of the very low minors I'm not sure the Twins have a minor league pitcher with upside higher than a #5 starter. It will take several years of astute drafting and trades to fix this black hole.
  15. The audio interview is pretty damning regarding the Twins lack of statistical analysis. Glen basically admitted they were behind the times in not even having a SABR guy on staff until late 2011. It is usually really bad when a player is willing to admit that. Also stated something like they only have the one guy and maybe another guy who knows advanced stats, Yikes. Other MLB teams have had "Stats/SABR" guys on staff for 10 years and the Twins are finally joining the party? I bet the Rays have 10 Stats guys on hand. I really like Perkins' game and honesty in these interviews. His answers give me little hope in Terry and his Good Old Boys and further proves that a complete overhaul of the FO and scouting department is needed.
  16. Utility players are a dime a dozen and I doubt he would make the big in his career in a strong organization. However I give the Twins some credit for developing a replacement level guy so they can avoid giving multi year deals to Carroll types in the future
  17. I appreciate that Terry stated the so called "Twins Way" is a farce. The Twins don't do things other teams aren't already aware of. The Twins were lucky to be in a horrific division where they could use their limited resouces to win in the regular season even if they knew the y had zero chance of winning a post season series. This strategy was an extremely smart business plan but it only proved they were happy being mediocre instead of "going for it". However, now that the Twins have drafted poorly for 5 + years they don't have the reinforcements to plug in with cost controlled deals. Add in the albatross Mauer contract and wasted funds on Blacky/Capps/Nishi/Carroll/Morneau this franchise is in big trouble. It all starts with the draft and this team much get better!
  18. Nick needs to be introduced to reality! The Twins have been the WORST team in the AL since September 2010 and have shown no signs of improvement. I take it this is your first year following the club?
  19. Jamie Moyer - at age 90.
  20. Average DH probably makes 5 mil. Glad that .7 of OPS is worth 18 mil. What is the combined ops for Butera/Mauer compared to ave C + DH? Ill even let you use Buteras lucky 2012 numbers. One of these days you will realize Joe is killing this franchise.
  21. Nice to see Iron Joe toughing out another game at catcher tonight! Instead of being an all star catcher we get to watch replacent level DH production earning 23 mil.......at least his replacement is not Butera where we suffer thru hole in the lineup while Joe jokes around on the bench.
  22. If the Twins were to get those guys I doubt they leapfrog anyone other than the Royals. They would have to give up Rosario, Arcia, maybe Sano, Plouffe, Revere,Dozier, and one of Span/Willy to pull that off. The lineup would be decimated. To examine the terrible state of affairs try to think like any opposing GM and try to find minor league talent or cost contolled mlb players you would like to acquire off this team. This is why the Twins must ne sellers, they have a lost generation of talent due to terrible trades and drafting.
  23. The Twins have been the worst team in the AL since the last 2 months of the 2010 season. This team has Zero chance of competing if they add Hamels and Greinke. The sole focus should be building the farm system for a run in 2014 or 2015.
  24. If a weak hitting catcher that cant stay healthy or behind the plate for that matter is worth 23 mil per year what is Doumit worth? I'd say a 4 year deal at 50 mil per is about right. I hope this is a precursor to a Mauer salary dump trade or is his deal so bad you couldn't give him away?
