I don't think so, in this case. No outs were recorded and both batters hit HRs, so as long as nobody got out and everybody hit a HR the half inning would continue indefinitely. ***Disclaimer: I'm not a mathematician. Nor did I sleep in a Holiday Inn Express last night. Nor am I an unpaid/paid spokesperson for Holiday Inn Express.

Video: Rocco's Embarrassing Blunder

I wondered that too. The other coaches have their own responsibilities too, but it seems like the responsibilities of the bench coach should be divvied up somehow. Rocco shouldn't be the one to take all of it because things like this happen. If nothing else, a simple adjustment on who makes the call to the pen so that Rocco is paying attention to what is going on on the field at all times seems like the easiest way to go about things. Hopefully that change has been made now. Things happen, but this one is certainly one of the more embarrassing gaffes that I've seen in a while. -

Considering that the team has won 60%+ of their games and has two first place finishes in the division in Rocco's two seasons, not discernably different. They may have a playoff game win in there, but I don't think we're talking about anything drastically different. They're not winning a playoff series or a World Series. And it's entirely possible that the guy that's there instead does worse.

Yeah, he's not going anywhere. I do think a bench coach would help things. I think Rocco is trying to wear two hats and he's missing things that otherwise wouldn't get missed. I have my share of qualms with his managing, and it's been worse so far this year, but I attribute some of that to the lack of a bench coach. Even with how the season has gone so far, it's not realistic to dump a manager with his record after two bad weeks.
