  1. What does any of this mean? Should I be getting excited about Gilmartin or Guerra? Of all the guys who saw action on the mound on the 7th, who should I be most excited about? What about the offensive players? Anyone doing anything recently that I should take note of?
  2. This was one of my favortie Twins hangouts. I'm still shocked it didn't make it to the 60 minute mark, even with the Twins being relatively quiet.
  3. Kevin Correia is very good at baseball. He's not very good compared to the rest of the league, but his abilitty to stay healthy and put up not god awful numbers is valuable. It's not just good and bad players. I think Kevin Correia, as much as I am calling for his rotation spot to go to someone else, is providng the Twins value. He's not elite by any stretch of imagination, but having him go out there every 5 days and give you a chance to win 3 out of 5 starts is valuable. yes, he leads the league in losses, but the Twins offense is terrible and pitcher wins are dumb (more or less). You have to take the upside on an injury prone player, but that also means having someone else who is ready to step in down in AAA or somehwere else on the roster. I don't know. It's nearly 2am here in Seattle. Can't quite get my mind to push out thoughts correctly. You don't always have a superstar or player with high-upside to play. Sometimes Kevin Correia is the best option, even if it's not a very good one.
  4. Runs? We don't need to stinkin' runs!

  5. What about a Twins fan directory of some sort? I'm finding a small amount of success finding Twins fans out here in Seattle via Twitter connections, but it'd be neat to be able to find Twins fans as I travel across the country for business/pleasure to watch baseball. Always neat to be able to have a beer and talk Twins with someone new when you're out on the road.
  6. Guys, I don't want to be a dick, but we're kind of getting off subject here. Don't threadjack this thread about over-moderation and threadjacking.
  7. I haven't been able to get this to work with my blog here on TD. Anyone else having better luck?
  8. I renounced my Vikings fandom following the Brad Childress hiring. The defense became the calling card of the team, and I liked that, but I legitimately did not beleive the organization had a plan for success. The Bret Favre signing almost worked, and then exploded in a perfectly Bret Favre way. I ust couldn't bring myself to spend money to support the Vikings in anyway, or to invest myself emotionally with such a poorly run organization. I moved from Alaska to Miami, and enjoyed a few Dolphins games, but never found a real team to root for since leaving the Vikings behind. I'm not sure anyone who moves to Miami ever becomes a Dolphins fan. I sure didnt. I moved out to Seattle in 2012 and Seahawks fever was everywhere. I got swept up. I invested in the Seahawks, financially and emotionally. I cant ever rememebr being as excited about football as I have been the last 2 years in Seattle, at least not since I was a little kid who lived in purple and gold. I'll always have a soft spot for the Vikings, but I'll never be back on the bandwagon.
  9. If I was the Twins I could give the Brewers Kevin Correia, pay all of his salary AND give them a bag of balls and some big league chew. His roster spot is more important to the Twins than any balls he throws in game.
  10. Does Pete Rose have a chance at being reinstated under one of the three possible commish wannabees?
  11. Does Alex Meyer have more to learn as a pitcher? You betcha. So does Kyle Gibson. And Phil Hughes. And even Kevin Correia. Just because you still have some development left to do doesn't mean you need to keep pitching in the minors. Bring him up. Show the big league what he can/cannot do. Let's get this party started.
  12. Shane, I'd never really given this much thought, but it seems like a good idea to give guys that may matter for the parent club more ABs than guys who are clearly org guys. Put your best players at the top of the lineups, especailly at the lower levels. I can see some reasons for a guy like Bernier to be leading off for Rochester. At some level the minor league affiliate still needs to have a product to sell to their fans; they need to be able to at least pretend they're trying to win, even if it should be all about player development.
  13. It's time to begin the discussion... Who would you like to see take over managerial duties for the Twins? Paul Molitor? Gene Glynn? Someone from outside the organization completely? Former Twins player? Dan Gladden (kidding)? If Gardy can keep this team from completely tanking into August/September, something he hasn't been able to do the last 3 seasons, maybe he has an outside chance at finishing the 2nd year of his 2 year deal, but I think he's gone after this season (and with him my arch-nemesis, Rick Anderson - good riddance!). Who's next for the Twins?
  14. I don't like Darnell as much as you do, and I think Harrison is a few spots too far down the list, but lots of good stuff here. Hopefully the guys in the top 10 can begin blossoming at the MLB level. I know many will washout and never reach their potential, but man, there's a lot fo talent there.
  15. I thought you were going to leave off my favorite dark horse Alex Wimmers. Glad to see he made your list. Like Gardy, I have a few players who are "my guys," Hicks, Wimmers, Goodrum and Kepler to name a few. Joe Benson was another, but he never seemed to put it all together. I still check up on his box scores... waiting for lightening to strike.
  16. The Twins are improving their rotation, slowly, but surely. I still have faith in Big Pelf, unrationally, but hope is still there for him to be league average in 2015. Maybe he can be our next Kevin Correia, veteran guy who logs lots of innings. That's not too much to hope for. Gibson and Hughes shoudl continue to be better than league average. That's three guys. Nolasco hopefully is back, and Meyer and May should be in the mix as well. maybe they push Pelf out of the picture or somebody is hurt (Nolasco?), but I'm excited about the future of the pitching in Minnesota. It's still not good, But it's moving in the right direction. Now if only they could get rid of that pesky Rick Anderson, my personal nemesis.
  17. The Twins need guys who can stay healthy. Say what you want about Kevin Correia, but he's stayed healthy and goes out there every 5th day. That's something to be valued, even if the results aren't good. The Twins have had a messy OF situation this season, but I think there's help coming. But the Twins do need some more SLG. I'd be interested to see these same rankings with OPS+
  18. I want to see guys play baseball at the MLB level, specifically Meyer and May and some other guys from the AAA pitching staff. Jarod Buron getting innings isn't something I enjoy. What's his value to the team for the future? I want to see Hicks back up. I'm a big Hicks proponent. He's always gotten on base and he just came off a great month in NB where he hit well from BOTH sides of the plate. Hopefully that carries over to AAA and eventually up to MLB this September. I watch for offense. Watching Arcia swing out of his shoes is fun, even when he misses. Seeing Danny Santana fly down the line to beat out or neatly beat out sqibbers to SS/3B is fun. Brian Dozier being Brian Dozier. Can he hit for just a bit more average? Will Joe Mauer ever be Joe Mauer again? Mostly I want to see the youth of the future play big league ball to see what they can do, to see how they handle the big league life, if only for a few weeks. I'd rather they get their lumps at the back end of another lost season than next spring when hope springs eternal.
  19. More than anything I want TD to continue to be a place I go go to discuss Twins topics intelligently with other fans. A place to connect with baseball nuts who are as crazy about the Twins as I am. As a fan living outside of Twins Territory, TD, much like Twitter, allows me access to Twins news/talk that otherwise is lacking in my life. Talking Mariner's baseball is fine and dandy, but I need Twins talk, and this site gives me a healthy dose of that. I come for the forum, I stay for the indy blogs, and I usually read the stuff on the front page. So... I guess what I'm saying is... community. I'm not sure how the No Juice Podcast fits in with the Twins Daily theme, other than Parker is a co-host, but other than that I like most all of the components of the site.
  20. I think Pino has a shot to be a backup or 3rd catcher for the Twins, but most likely a DH/Bench bat will be his likely tag. yes, he can catch, but I think the Suzuki signing says a lot about Pino's future as an everyday backstop. When Joe Mauer had to move from behind the plate a big gap opened up. Hopefully the Twins can bide their time with Zook and Pino until the next great Twins catcher comes through the system... which could be awhile.
  21. http://assets.podomatic.net/ts/19/ad/da/paulpleiss/1400x1400_9826174.jpg After a week off, we're back and making podcast magic! This week we discuss the roster moves that happened surrounding the trade deadline, and talk about how the Twins are going to put a roster together when Joe Mauer returns. We muse ont he future of Ron Gardenhire and who is going to manage the Twins in the future. We talk about some of the young taelnt coming through the organization and how everything could fit together. Plus we do the regular - beer, baseball, and the news. 90 minutes to make your ears bleed. Source
  22. Alex Meyer is scheduled to pitch for the Red Wings in Indy on Saturday. And with Trevor May having pitched this past Monday, either could pitch for the Twins on regular rest against the Oakland Athletics. If the Twins don't call on Alex Meyer or Trevor May to make that start I may just stop watching Twins baseball this season. Okay, I probably won't stop watching, but I might just stop caring about 2014 and I'll actively be rooting for the Twins to lose lose lose their way into the off-season hoping that a terrible end to this terrible season will bring about a new coaching staff and a good draft pick. As noted American patriot Patrick Henry once said: "Give us Trevor May, give us Alex Meyer, or give us DEATH!"
  23. Lots of tough losses across Twins Territory. Hopefully tomorrow turns out better for everyone taking the field.
  24. My favorite park of reading the forums and even most Twins blogs out there is this crazy idea that some team would actually trade for Kevin Correia, league leader in loses. He's not absolute garbage, because he's stayed healthy and the Twins have refused to DFA him for any number of AAA guys. Yes, he's usually good for 6 innings and 3-4 runs, but that's not really something to get excited about. I wouldn't give up a bag of used BP baseballs for Kevin Correia, even if the Twins ate all of his salary. At least the baseballs have a use for a contending team.
  25. I don't understand your basketball references becasue I refuse to watch or learn about the NBA. It's bad enough that I have to watch lame ass dunks in the SportsCenter top 10 plays during the beginning of baseball season. Bah Humbug. Sam Fuld turned into Tommy Milone, that's pretty neat.
