  1. A double play would be VERY sweet at this point. I wonder who will pitch the 9th.
  2. Good one. Does it matter at all that Butera did hit a double tonight and Doumit may have an injury?
  3. They are crybaby homers and lack any shred of objectivity. But since I live far away like you do, they are sometimes the only way to watch a game, and I share your need for the mute button when they start talking about "Paulie" not being respected and other monkey business.
  4. Unless Doumit is injured, this seems like a managerial error.
  5. Sounds like typical White Sox crybabying to me. One of the many reasons why beating the White Sox feels so sweet.
  6. This might make you happy -- if the Twins trade Liriano, the other team might be tempted to take his personal catcher as well.
  7. I agree with you from the perspective of logic and rational analysis. But as long as the Liriano-Butera partnership is producing wins, I am happy to go with irrational superstition.
  8. Baseball is a game where one-tenth of an inch can make all the difference. Even if Liriano's confidence in Butera is based purely on superstition, that seems worth it so long as they are producing together.
  9. No, but when presented with lemons, I like to make sweet lemonade if I can.
  10. Butera presents a nice low target, and seems to be able to get the most out of Liriano. Why not let Doumit get some well-deserved rest, so long as Liriano and Butera are producing great results?
  11. So long as Liriano can continue to put up zeros, I don't mind him having a personal catcher. Butera's weakness as a batter seems minor compared with shutting out the White Sox (and giving Doumit some extra rest).
  12. Peavy has been scary good this year. If the Twins can get more than a few runs in the early innings, that will be a positive sign that they might be able to contend in the Central. Willingham hitting into the DP didn't help.
  13. Parker's article was one of the best I have ever seen anywhere.
  14. On the baseball standings page of ESPN, they include each team's chances of making the playoffs this year. You can look at this here if you want -- http://espn.go.com/mlb/standings/_/sort/playoffPercent/order/true ESPN puts the Twins chances at 0.9% (slightly less than one percent). But I wonder if they take into account the potential magic that could happen, such as the ascension of Babe Plouffe and the possibility that Mauer, Morneau etc. could start playing at their prior levels, and the possibility that Diamond, Liriano and at least two other starters can provide solid second halves. What do you think? What are the Twins' chances of making the playoffs THIS year. And please feel free to comment.
  15. If you click on the thumbnail then you can see a larger version.
  16. This seems like a terrible deal from the perspective of the Red Sox. I wonder what the Dodgers offered.
  17. At the very least, I would like to see Florimon as a September callup. Great win for the Twins today and an excellent game thread.
  18. That walk of the first batter was not a good thing, so hopefully Perk can strike these next 2 guys out.
  19. C'mon Trevor -- you need to win today's HR derby.
  20. Suck on that one Reds -- Hammer's blast not even close -- he got all of that one -- upper deck and then some. And now Plouffe will get a chance to add his second homer of the day (after Morneau grounds out).
  21. Nice hit by Mauer -- now it's Hammer Time.
