  1. My comment is based on my sense that Plouffe has great tools that could be improved with hard work, and my hope that Molitor will be able to help Plouffe improve his focus. Also, in my post I linked to Killebrew's stats, and I think that there is a chance that Plouffe, like Killebrew, could eventually have a breakout season and a great career. I could be totally wrong about Plouffe, but I still have hope that he could become an outstanding player.
  2. Anyone who is not reading RB's game thread introductions is missing one of the best parts of TD. No matter how badly the Twins are playing and how miserable your day might be, RB always provides something to smile about, along with occasional pearls of wisdom.
  3. Harmon Killebrew played a substantial # of games at 3B and in the outfield. He never won a gold glove, but he worked hard and made the most of his ability. I think that either Sano or Plouffe could provide adequate defense in the outfield if that's what is best for the team. I also think that they could both benefit from Killebrew's work ethic. Hopefully Molitor will be able to get them both to give 110% to every aspect of their performance and they will both be part of a World Series run in a few years. I suppose that trading Plouffe might make sense if Sano shows that he can handle 3B, but my sense is that Plouffe has the tools to get significantly better and that Molitor might be able to help Plouffe become a lot more valuable.
  4. I would not want to live in a state where concealed carry permits are easy to get. It seems to me that a huge amount of training should be required, and even then people should not be allowed to carry guns into stores/restaurants.
  5. I wonder about the ratio of accidents to killing of criminals. I also wonder why she did not have the gun safety turned on, assuming that this was a semi-automatic. I prefer revolvers for their reliability, but keep the top chamber empty just in case. This is a tragedy, but hopefully also a wake up call.
  6. Welcome to TD!
  7. Moderator note -- finally Ryan does something that calms the waters.
  8. Moderator note -- please make a greater effort to be respectful of people who have different point of view. We are carefully monitoring this thread to keep it cordial.
  9. I think that I will stick to the over-under in 2015 unless the series odds go to at least 400 to 1.
  10. Moderator note -- please contain the sarcasm. We are looking for respectful debate not squabbling.
  11. This could be a long year for us moderators.
  12. Here is an article by someone who seems independent. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/24860239/torii-hunter-follows-heart-back-to-minnesota-agrees-to-one-year-deal-with-twins The conclusion resonates with what some of us seem to be thinking: "But the signing isn't about on-field value. This is about Hunter being happy and about the Twins bringing back a fan favorite for what is likely the final stage of his career. And you know what? That is pretty darn cool. It doesn't happen often enough in this ultra-competitive era of MLB."
  13. Moderator note -- we are allowing some leeway here, but please keep it civil.
  14. Moderator note - let's keep this civil.
  15. I am thankful for the site owners for creating and maintaining TD. I am thankful for my fellow moderators for keeping the discussions respectful and on track. Most of all I am thankful for all Twins fans who participate in TD. We may often disagree, but we share an obsession for all things Twins, and if we always agreed then TD would be boring. There are many things in the world that are more important than baseball, but few things that give me this much pleasure. I hope that each and every Twins fan has the best possible Thanksgiving, You people have been great this year and deserve all the best.
  16. I am putting four of these in the mail today and am going to get my wife to sign one tonight. If you are participating, please feel free to post about it here. Also, anyone who can get five of these in the mail before the deadline will qualify as a "TD Member of the Month". I am not sure what that means, but it must be good.
  17. Tony O. deserves this. I am going to print out several of these postcards, add the postage and get friends to sign them.
  18. Welcome to TD. This is a promising first post.
  19. Moderator note -- let's stop beating the dead horse about whether TR was dragged kicking and screaming. The decision to commit unprecedented funds to free agents last year was made behind closed doors. It seems possible that TR recommended this and the owners wanted to claim the credit. In this scenario, TR would have been wise to allow the owners to claim the credit, even if this would make TR seem cheap. It also seems possible that the owners directed TR to do this despite TR's reservations. It also seems possible (and in my mind this is the most probable scenario) that there were hours of discussion that resulted in a plan that everyone agreed with, and the owners wanted to make sure that they got fair credit. In any event, this thread is getting too personal. If someone wants to start a new thread posting links to evidence that supports one view or the other, then please feel free to do so; however I suspect that until someone writes his memoirs (and is honest) we will never know the full/true story.
  20. As a moderator I like almost every post when the topic is interesting and people are being polite.
  21. My preference would be the Cuban guy, Yasmany Tomas if the Twins' scouts like him. He's risky, but some of the Cuban players have surprised to the upside and I think that his signing would boost ticket sales, especially if he pans out. I would also suggest that TR call Arcia and offer him incentives to come to spring training a couple of weeks early to work on his defense. I don't know what this might cost, but it would be pocket change compared with any of the free agents.
  22. I just read the handbook last night and enjoyed it very much. I especially liked the blueprint regarding what the Twins should do to get better. There is a lot of interesting reading here, including the interview with Terry Ryan which I found very informative.
  23. I don't see this as demeaning. It seems to me that the key to maximizing defensive potential is repetitive practice, which takes focus and hard work. This does not happen overnight -- it comes over time with practice.
  24. Agreed, and I wish that Santana would play 5 steps deeper.
