  1. something comforting about watching Joe take pitches.
  2. Wish I had something to drink in the event Mauer swings at the first pitch.
  3. Soooooooooooo I guess that means Mauer bats leadoff anyway. Just in the second inning. Maybe that was the plan all along.
  4. I just got to politely refrain from cheering for Robbie Grossman while seated at my cubicle! I'm watching the introductions to a real baseball game! YeeeeeeeeeaaaaahhhhhhhH!
  5. Spoken like a man who's never seen Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo
  6. Excluding Park is an insult that should offend every player on the team. Sends a real bad message. I've lost a little faith in Falvey/Levine over this one. Certainly less anxious for opening day when granted the opportunity to cheer for Grossman at DH and Haley as #13 unused pitcher on bench. It's just deflating for me as a fan.
  7. I totally read this as "Good stuff. Go to my site." Which would've been way more hilarious and profoundly rude given the context. Well Done TD! I really appreciate what you've built on this ground.
  8. I can't seem to get too worked up about the difference between these numbers, but I will say I am always happy to see the club come close to the player's suggested number as it seems it would indicate goodwill and improve the players' "buy-in" and commitment level. Regarding these four specifically: I could see Pressly growing into the closer role and Kintzler providing Guerrier-like value over several seasons. Escobar is worth keeping at this cost. Gibson is a bigtime X-factor in my opinion. Everytime I think I know what he is, the picture changes. I can't figure what to make of him. The pricepoint is low enough to watch with an open mind for another year.
  9. Twins offense wasn't a weakness in 2016. They were solidly mid-pack in runs and OPS. Much of the lineup are young players who project to improve. Bautista should be able to provide a boost where it isn't vital to improve. Adding Bautista would not positively impact the pitching and would consume resources that would no longer be available to address the pitching problems. That's a net negative result in my opinion. Hope the new bosses agree.
  10. This is a true labor of love and it is inspiring to see impassioned fans organize and accomplish a piece of work like this. I know you aren't getting rich off this effort, but you sure earned my contribution!
  11. Might be more fair to say "His team's lack of postseason success" or "His lack of postseason opportunity." He only has 39 postseason PA which is a tiny sum considering he's 13 years in. He's faired okay (.286/.359/.314) but the sample has been so little it has no positive impact.
  12. ..or bring him on as a "Nutritionalist." I imagine he'd be quite innovative.
  13. I had not taken the time to sign in lately, but this comment from Pardon My Dinger made me so happy, I just couldn't in good conscience not sign in to click "Like." So dry. So pithy. Sooooo spot on.
  14. I'm flabbergasted by what I'm listening to and by the comments above. First, John has every right to have his own opinion. He stated his opinion respectfully as one take on the matter and Gleeman responded as if he simply cannot accept the fact that John sees a matter differently. He didn't then proceed enter a thoughtful debate. He acted offended and disgusted that John has a different opinion. Aaron, it is okay if you and John don't agree. Just afford him some dignity and respect. You can explain why you see the matter differently without getting frustrated that he doesn't agree. As a grown-up listener, I felt a little embarrassed by Aaron's reaction, so I decided to check the comments and most of you agree with Gleeman? Do most people feel there can't be any variance in viewpoint? Wow. I may need to rethink my involvement in this community. John, kudos to you for keeping a cool head and refusing to rise to the bait. Here's to a better one next time.
  15. On the post game, Molitor said of Santana, " He's probably got the best instincts for base-running of anyone on the team." Really? He has been caught 8 times in 19 attempts. His steal success rate is 61% The rest of the team steals at a rate of 84% 'Nuff said. Don't have to be a genius to smell that bull.
  16. I felt exactly the opposite. After years of losing, the Twins were finally close to striking position and had a legitimate chance of making the postseason. Sure, they would be unlikely to make noise if they got there, but what a great experience that would be for the young players they hope will form the core of their future teams. I had no strong feelings for or against Jepsen, He was just a name to me, but he was very reliable when the team was good. Sad it swung the opposite way this year. I'll probably forget who he was in a few years. That said, I'd much rather watch the Twins trade a Chih Wei Hu while in contention than watch them protect Randy LeBlanc (this year's Low-A standout starter) while mired in an impossibly unsuccessful season. This season is just plain sad. You won't hear me complain about 2015.
  17. Luck- noun success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through one's own actions. "Everything has gone wrong" simply comments on the result without addressing the cause. In short, "Luck" asserts a cause. "Everything has gone wrong" describes a result. Some previous commenters have stated in various ways that that the front office positioned the team to fail. A front office makes a plan, that's all any front office ever does. Failure or success depends on the players performing. Seth's article isn't about whether the front office made a good plan, it is simply addressing how the first half of the season played out. It was not good, followed by really not good, wrapped in a coating of super not good. We can all draw the conclusion that this was the result of a bad plan or the result of "Luck" or the result of a series of poor performances. Seth didn't try to decide that for us. Bravo Seth! I appreciate your writing. You dignify your reader.
  18. Your article doesn't even address Dozier, despite making many valid points. When I look to assign blame, I keep thinking back to the way the ship sank. Out of the gate, the pitching was acceptable and the offense was unforgivable. Dozier was counted on to lead the offense. He batted top 3rd of the order and through 51 games, he put up a triple slash line of .206/.299/.351 Absolutely pathetic. He "led the team" to a 15-36 record at that point. Molitor had failed to drop him in the order. His patience has been rewarded by a resurgence that came so late in the season, it is meaningless. Just one of many failures, but it shouldn't go unmentioned, especially if his failure is rewarded with all-star honor. Yuck.
  19. This will prove to be the single worst decision the Twins make this year. Maybe decade. Arcia's career will fall in the range of Nick Swisher to Manny Ramirez. Danny Santana's will fall in the range of Darin Mastroianni to Lew Ford... and we already saw Danny's one good season. I have not felt this sick about a piece of sport's news since I was the seemingly lone voice crying over the release of Ortiz. Hitters like this don't come through the pipeline everyday. To give up on this one is as bad an idea as it would have been to cut bait on Morneau after '05. World class stupid.
  20. Ortiz was my favorite Twins player when they let him go, and even though I wanted him to stay, letting him go didn't seem crazy at the time. Today, I want to see them hang onto Arcia and get rewarded for it. Seems like it would be a good way to replace a bad taste that's been in my mouth for 15ish years.
  21. I really think Plouffe would have some value to the Royals. He's a known commodity. He isn't all that far off his career norms, which are good- beyond what you can expect from Cheslor Cuthbert, and he's still cheap. I don't know what they'd offer in return, but they have to have some bullpen arms that are blocked, don't they?
  22. Well that sure was an embarrassing strikeout.
  23. I really hope you're wrong, but I'd bet you're not
