  1. If there wasn't anyone else of significance offered, then in my mind yes, it basically was a 1:1 offer. If there was no one else with real potential offered, then I'd rather buy an actual lottery ticket. And that's what I think happened. There was no one else worth having, that had the potential to make us better. Then all we are really talking about is Dozier for DeLeon. And I think that was the Dodgers' plan ... to see how much they could get for DeLeon to fill 2nd base with someone better, and how much that was was Forsythe. I also think that was what they thought, too, and all of this talk with the Twins was to see if they could possibly squeeze out more, and they couldn't. So they made the deal they knew they could. It's the only thing that truly makes any logical sense. And NO GM was going to make a better trade. They've improved their position without giving up more than they wanted to. Time will tell if they improved enough.
  2. What kind of a prospect is 'not significantly' more, though? I've stated all along I'd have taken DeLeon and Alvarez. I'd have tried to negotiate for more, but I would have taken that. I would have taken DeLeon and Stewart, too. But I consider both those 2nds as significantly more. Maybe we are confused over semantics, but if what else was offered, and I do believe there was more offered, wasn't anything that would benefit us, it's a no go for me. It basically means that it was DeLeon (useful) and two not significantly more pieces (not useful). That's my reasoning. I think you think that it didn't matter much to you what else came with DeLeon that DeLeon is really all that mattered to you. Again, I may be misconstruing what you are trying to say, but I believe that what you would have accepted was too weak an offer and I'm okay with a pass on it. Not completely happy, not not disappointed, but okay. I'm part of the 'side' that thinks an asset needs to bring back more. We couldn't get it done for whatever reason. I think that the Dodgers thought that Forsythe was an okay-enough upgrade and was satisfactory to them, that that kind of a piece was the goal ... and if they could get more than that without giving up much more than what they did, they were going to try. But they were going to hold firm to nothing more significant than DeLeon because they had Forsythe in the wings. Given that, I'm okay they passed ... but disappointed a deal couldn't be struck.
  3. Moderator note: If you want to discuss your opinions of the FO failing in this, do so. But name-calling ... no matter how 'clever' ... is a no go, especially if it's a one-off post.
  4. I never jumped on. Saw part of the first episode. Is just really not my thing.
  5. Did anyone watch Victoria? Planning on watching that series?
  6. I'd say no, too, but that's part of negotiation. What did the Dodgers come back with then? JDL and what? Who? From what we're hearing that if it was something it wasn't anything of real consequence. So, the Twins say no. If the Dodgers aren't going to offer up much beyond the one (and I didn't say only that one), you walk. Not because you think you'll get more later, but because it's not a good deal, and if you took it you'd be making a deal just to make a deal. One unproven player doesn't make us better enough this coming year or the next.
  7. https://mic.com/articles/163680/science-reveals-the-truth-about-drinking-whiskey-to-fight-a-cold#.wGPh7sQNn Just sayin'. I'd be much more forgiving if you said you were late because you were hung over fighting a cold.
  8. LaTroy Hawkins! Exciting news! I'm so excited for this event!
  9. Okay, this is definitely not looking like my cup o' tea
  10. Is this based on a book? The trailers I've seen ... looks a little creepy.
  11. Your contact doesn't know where it is either.
  12. Now I'm thinking I may have to attend. Of course, I was already thinking that because this is a great event.
  13. Seriously then, why do I keep seeing ads for shoes? I never search for shoes online.
  14. I think that's what people are questioning ... how do you know they didn't have that conversation with the Dodgers FIRST, and that the press is just reporting where things are at? I think it's hugely presumptuous of you to assume that that conversation hasn't happened and that the press is reporting it to us, secondarily, to let us know that this is where things stand ... that there is a timeline in place. And everyone, please stop the 'LOL-ing' at each other.
  15. I don't think that's an inference you can make from the article one way or the other.
  16. Oh, I don't think we are really so far off in disagreement here. I have always stated we needed pitching and Dozier is the chip to get it. And I, too, want quality over quantity ... but I think there are differing opinions and approaches to what quality gained = what quality lost and finding that right balance that actually does good for us in the future. Yeah, it's all a crap shoot no matter what direction you go, but we could do worse damage to our future, imo, if it's not the right deal, risk or no risk.
  17. That's fair. And I guess that's the divide here between the varying points of view on this issue. For me, there is a point where you walk away. Yeah, there's risk no matter how you look at it. It's just difficult for me to part with a proven, definite asset for something that may never produce. I'd be more comfortable, obviously, with a return of more pieces in the hopes that one is really good. Is there a point you'd walk away from this situation, out of curiosity?
  18. Which is why I used a question mark as I was asking. If that's all the offer is for, then what?
  19. I'm not sure it's really about value that Dozier isn't getting what he's worth. It's more about supply and demand. So are you saying that you would trade him straight up for DeLeon? A proven ML position player with above average defense and well above average power for his position, for an unproven highly ranked prospect within the Dodgers system? No. The only thing you can do is hold him and hope that a better offer comes along. Yes, we need pitching, but ONE pitching prospect isn't going to solve that. It may not even be a start if that ONE prospect doesn't pan out. Yeah, this isn't s great place to be in and we all hoped for more, but that's just how it is. If that's all there is out there for Dozier, you keep him and hope for better. If not, you look for another way. If this is the only way to improve our future, then we don't have much of one.
  20. Well, I don't agree. And I still don't call it an ultimatum.
  21. <pppffftsputtter> I'm not even sure how to respond to that. But somewhere in the Universe, Skeletor is getting anxious.
  22. Sigh. Brock, when are there going to be ads with shirtless He-men eye candy for me to date?
  23. I disagree. It's not an ultimatum at all. It's wanting to get it done because they need to move forward one way or another. It wouldn't be smart if they weren't prepared to walk away, but I think they are and always have been.
  24. Heh, yes, such a warm and fuzzy collective we all are.
