  1. 3.5 game lead now. Not fearful of Cleveland or Chicago. Think it’s ours for the taking
  2. Said it in the game thread: everyone can recite the starter’s numbers “third time though the order”, but we don’t hear too many people reciting the reliever’s stats in specific situations. For instance, the plan was clearly to use jax for two innings. Well he’s been asked to get 6 outs exactly once since the beginning of June. He had a few outings in May when asked to go 2 IP and his numbers were average at best. But the plan was to use him for 2 innings once bundy was pulled regardless. Everyone knows bundy is probably the weakest starter, but somehow our relievers (outside of Duran) earn the nod of confidence on a pretty slim body of work
  3. Someone got bailed out by one of the worst base running plays of all time tonight (which was fun to watch). And it wasn’t only griffin Jax
  4. The question you have to ask as far as yesterday goes, is do you trust another inning of archer less than you trust an inning of thornburg?
  5. This is what I’m saying. Yesterday and today are good examples. I’ll take the chance that the starter, even if he’s getting tired or going through the order a third time, can get a couple outs. And if he can’t, you could have someone warm and ready to come in. I know giving a reliever “non clean inning” isn’t perfect, but you gotta do what you gotta do. 15 outs is a lot for a bullpen to regularly get. Heck we can’t even get 6-9
  6. Cleveland doesn’t impress me all that much. Couple nice hitters like Kwan, Ramirez and gimenez. Outstanding back end of the bullpen. Bieber. But not much else. It was the twins own incompetence over these last ten days that lost them pretty much every game. Sandy Leon and Myles Straw walked FIVE TIMES today. Think about how terrible that is.
  7. You’d have to imagine the twins are going to be gouged when they try to get help through trades. Every other club would certainly know how desperate we are for bullpen help. Anyone hoping to just “get a high leverage guy” better get ready to pay through the nose. Ain’t gonna be cheap
  8. 100% this. I’ve been saying it for months. Starters have been going a bit longer lately but still. Tomorrow is July 1 and a bad bullpen is already gassed, making them even worse. I must have seen “this is the third time through the order and it’s an organizational philosophy” posts a million times on this site. You have to have an actual competent bullpen if you’re going to play that game. Some teams do, many teams don’t. The twins certainly don’t. And not one long man to speak of. I thought archer would get pulled after 2 innings today but he got it together and could possibly have given us another inning.
  9. Naylor has taken a home run cut on every single swing this series. He couldn’t catch up with the higher fastballs from cotton, and cotton decided to put a cookie down the middle
  10. Late inning relievers must be able to throw strikes. They just have to. Or they can’t get those innings. Fail with someone else and it wouldn’t hurt as bad.
  11. I’m saying that’s who I would have gone with yesterday. 1) leave jax in another inning or 2) bring in thielbar or 3) put duran in. All of those options are better than EP. It’s probably not possible to have a set order when you have so many inconsistent guys. But one way you could combat the awfulness of the bullpen is to ride the hot hand.
  12. Thielbar, Jax, Duran..in that order. Fail with anyone else and I can live with the attempt at at least trying someone else. There literally hasn’t been anyone worse in almost a year than Pagan. Both things can be true: the bullpen was constructed terribly and Rocco continues to use a bad option. I don’t know why people want him to be immune to criticism so badly. Couple playoff appearances with nary a win to show for it. This isn’t a jab at you as I respect your posts.
  13. So when the question is “who else”, the answer could very honestly be “anyone”. But we’re all just big meanies towards rocco
  14. Twins overcame their manager who did his best to overmanage the team into a loss. Everyone is in agreement that the bullpen is terrible, yet plenty still would rather see a reliever(s) come in than stick with a guy who is cruising for one more inning. Smeltzer, 90 pitches, 3 hits and no walks in 6 innings. Yanked for Joe smith who has been average to bad for well over a month, and doubly so when he starts a clean inning. Then the 9th. Honestly if thielbar blew that, considering the situation (two blown leads late against the divisional opponent nearest to you in the standings), that’s a move that eventually gets people fired if you do it enough times. There didn’t seem to be a really good reason for it at all. This doesn’t excuse the offense which continues to be terrible. Can’t manufacture runs, can’t even move guys over. Lead off double, strikeout, fly out, strikeout.
  15. The FO gets plenty of heat too. I won’t blame rocco for putting together a terrible bullpen, just like I wouldn’t blame the FO for not having someone come in to the game in that 9th inning. Both can shoulder the blame
  16. I’d take either over a gassed Pagan. I didn’t have a problem bringing him back out in light of the reason you mentioned, but it’s wild that neither (or anyone else) was ready.
  17. Someone has to explain how there wasn’t a reliever up and ready to come in to the game for that 9th inning before pagan was able to face 3 guys. It’s inexcusable. Really, with the tendency to have a quick hook on guys, I’m beyond befuddled that Rocco went into that 9th inning without having somebody ready.
  18. There would have been one out had they sacrificed him. Sanchez and Urshela were up next, they went a combined 0-9 with 6 k’s
  19. Most disappointed in correa. Holy Jeeze man we needed a bat on the ball there in the worst way. And if you bunt him they just walk Kepler and we get Sanchez, possibly the worst guy for that situation.
  20. Top 3 worst loss of the season. Brutal. if you told me we’d get 6 out of Ryan and 2 out of Duran, I would have bet my life we’d have won. 15 k’s, 4 consecutively in the 10th and 11th. Cleveland got a doinker and won the game because someone got a bat on a ball. Outside of arraez, nobody really makes the pitcher WORK on a consistent basis. Separates the good teams from the best teams.
