  1. The exception is the St. Louis v Atlanta doubleheader, necessitated by yesterday's postponement. This is an interesting and positive approach taken by MLB to minimize any uncertainty involving game(s) that would take place on the 5th or 6th. As it applies to today, if the Angels beat Texas there will be a playoff game tomorrow. Without this scheduling rule I could easily picture the evil empire (a.k.a. Fox) dictating an evening start time for that game. Meanwhile, the Astros would need to know whether to travel to DFW (if they and LA both win), to Houston (if LA wins and they lose) or New York (if Texas wins).
  2. I feel the same way, but I thought his quote was noteworthy enough to post. My guess is he'll play the whole game and then just before the top of the ninth PM will send a reserve out on the field to allow for a last ovation. The exception would be if the Twins are behind or tied and he's due up in the bottom of the inning.
  3. Terry Ryan has been in charge for less than 4 years. During that time he has taken an organization that was essentially in shambles and made substantial improvement from top to bottom. I think he has done a very commendable job up to this point. That said, I can understand the point of view that he may not be the best person to take this team further. He's rarely made a big splash in a trade or a FA signing. One difference between now and his first tenure as GM is that he will have a larger budget to work with. I think he's earned the chance to continue in his position and I'm interested to see what he can do.
  4. That's good news for the Twins. Even if we only see him once or twice a year he still seemed to dominate us.
  5. From Phil Miller in the Strombone: “There’s a possibility this could be my last game,” Hunter said in a somber clubhouse after the Twins’ hopes of a postseason invitation were dashed with Saturday’s 5-1 loss to Kansas City. “There’s a really good chance.”
  6. Touche. However, being 13 games over .500 in May was certainly a bigger outlier than being 6 games under .500 in June. I'm not posting this to be negative, but one hot month was enough to help cover our shortcomings, at least somewhat. That said, I'm certainly optimistic about 2016. We made significant strides this year and I think there will be further strides made next year. Can't wait for February!
  7. Lots of good stats, but I'll add one more: The Twins run differential after 161 games is exactly zero. Considering all the above stats, to break even in runs and to have a winning record can be attributed to luck and/or the manager. I wouldn't put PM at the top of my MOY ballot but he'd be on it.
  8. There is an award in each league, you know.
  9. Keep in mind that this is a meaningful game for KC in terms of W-L record relative to Toronto. There will probably be a few concessions to being eliminated but I don't think PM will put a spring training lineup on the field.
  10. And with last year's lost season he's more like 20 in baseball years. And, as Torii would say, he doesn't have his man-muscles yet.
  11. Twins' record in May: 20-7. Twins' record the rest of the season: 63-71.
  12. I think there's good reason to be hopeful about next season, and I think the changes that will make the biggest impact will come from within in the form of improvement in our younger players. That's not to say we can't look to trades and/or free agency but those options would be to address focal issues. To me the big picture is rosy.
  13. A shame to be eliminated by an inning like this. Should have been out of the inning tied but for Boyer's throw and a very close call going against us on Cain's route to first base. Still, to be the 19th team to be eliminated out of 20 is something to take pride in.
  14. Keep in mind that we are not mathematically eliminated. 1%>0. Sorry, but that's about as optimistic as I can get.
  15. The Angels just won, the Astros are up by 6 and we're down 2 in the bottom of the ninth. I needn't say more.
  16. This is not how I wanted things to happen.
  17. Grrr. Gotta make a comeback. C'mon, Perk, tighten up and let's get it back in the bottom of the inning.
  18. Dangit, Astros bat around in the top of the first and score 3.
  19. We need Young to make a mistake to Sano.
  20. Came to naught. CBU: both important games are 1-1 after 5 innings.
  21. Gotta work tomorrow. Means I'll miss the first few innings. Hope I can come late to a nice lead by the home team.
  22. We did it last night and we can do it again tonight!
